Ok, here goes a strange suggestion. What about having some monsters controlled by players? Player choses "Play as a monster" in the launchpad and he randomly takes the body of a monster lets say in enchanted lands, always in a place where there are some normal players around. While being a monster you are limited to a low range, low speed walk, so you cannot get out of the dryad area for example while playing as a dryad in enchanted lands. You have some special spells like those the arena monsters have. Whenever you are killed you are asked to respawn on the same mob or random to control another mob around the world (where there are players) I think it would be a lot of fun, what do you think? Cheers,
I dont quite see the point, what would it give you or the players you fought?

<p>Yeah, not sure I see the point either.</p><p>For a start you couldnt behave differently to the same similar mobs as you, therefore if you werent an aggro mob youd have to wait til someone attacked you which I suspect would be very boring. If you were an aggro mob, how would this be done, reduce your vision so you could only see whats in your aggro range, and then you only be able to attack the 1st person in your range - and you have to attack them, no choice, also youve have to follow the hate rules so youd have no choice in who you fought at all, in other words the only thing youd get any choice in would be the order of skills you cast (and to be honest most mobs dont seem to have that many anyways). Also you say check to make sure players are in that area, very tricky to do mainly cos someone may be running through when it checks and then you may end up somewhere with no pcs in it and be very bored.</p><p>In other words,<i> </i>I dont think would work at all to be honest</p>

Maybe you should try rolling a toon on a PvP server and pretend you're a MOB?

Waiting serveral hours for being killed? Sounds... boring. Me as a dryad: *wandering around* *for a long, long time* Me: A player in my aggro range! *attackmode on* Hm, why can't attack him? Aaargh, he has too high level... *attackmode off* *wandering around near the player* Me: He is harvesting... hm. *whispering* Me: Hey, you! Yes, you! Dont want to fight against me? I'm waiting here for hours for a real challenge! Come on... *the player looks at the dryad* Player: O.k. *blam* Me: One-Hitted. *sigh* No, not my way to have fun <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

The only PvP in Lord of the Rings MMO is players playing as monster against others playing their main toons .

Also players control monsters better than AI does. It would be really frustrating to be grinding xp/quests then have your target root you and back off, or run away because he's going to die. There's no appeal to me to play a monster.

Well, I would like the idea of a wandering three arrows conned monster in a zone, with free movement, but maybe not allowed everywhere, adding some risk to other players. Monster could attack whoever he wants in its range. Maybe not a total revamp of the eq2 playstyle to add this, but just add a couple of quests that transform you into a werewolf for a couple of hours, allowing you to attack anybody in the zone.

This was actually called Project M a long, long time ago on the EQ1 test server. I think it lasted a few days, maybe just a weekend, before they pulled it. If I remember right it was pretty well received by players, but I think the devs didn't want to hassle with implementing it across the board.

You could do it for very short periods of time (as in a max of 32 seconds) on a PvP server using a level 65+ coercer with the spell Possession. It allows the coercer to 'possess' the mob and control it, using its abilities instead of the coercer ones. The coercer is left slumped on the ground, so some protection there is needed. The one difference is that the possessed mob has the same faction as the coercer, so mobs that are aggro to the coercer will be aggro to the possessed mob.

Basically you want to have a version of forced PvP. Project M was around for a while, my former boyfriend used to play it. It was fun on that limited server but had a lot of griefing potential. While project M's could not directly communicate, they did figure out ways to do so and ganged up on the unsuspecting (among other things). If you want PvP, there are servers for it.
<p>Well, outside of a full pvp server the way to implement this would be the way Lord of the rings online have done it. That is make a special zone where this is played out and make the monster characters unable to move outside that zone. </p><p>One thing that deepens the gameplay would be to make a monster character that you could keep and enhance in several different ways (level could perhaps be fixed or just in a certain range, but AA:s and such could perhaps be gained?) and of course a reason for the pvp. Like a background story for the monsters to be there and for the ordinary players to wipe them out.</p><p>As stated this is already in Lotro and I cant say I found that much fun, but sure, for the pvpers I suppose it could be interesting.</p>

<p>You know...there really are some times when the game gets old...running thru Butcherblock for the 200th time, etc. I think it would be funny and within the scope of the dev's whacky sense of humor to allow you to do that every now and then. </p><p>Imagine you take on the shape of a silverback gorilla...some newbie comes walking by..."Hey you...gotta banana?"</p><p>One guy told me...in the Star wars game...one of his friends dressed up like a Storm Trooper...and would pretend to be one...march with them...everything. When a toon would come along...the pseudo Storm Trooper would ask crazy questions...like..."How about dem Bears?" </p><p>Just seems kinda funny. </p>
