Just wondering what the general consensus is on crits vs. procs. Generally each proc item i have tends to add 20-50 dps but im wondering if replacing a proc item with one that has 2% spell crit would have a greater net benefit

Proc items own 2% crit items for us. The speed with which we cast makes procs incredibly powerful. Even low amount procs like the hat from Sunchild and the Necklace from CWM, and somewhat broken items like Gloves of Sagacity, are better than crit. Getting 6+ proc items will really start to show a dps increase.

The higher the spread from lowest dmg to highest dmg will give you the bigest benefit from criting. We as illys have a LOOOOOW spread in dmg as our dmg is generally low (compared to a sorc). So crits yes do help us but arnt as beneficial. Procs are a straight dmg and with multiple items can proc off the same spell (had bout 3 items proc off my primary nuke once). Also the normalized chance to proc (the 1.8 average a min thing). Is for NON hasted. The faster the haste the more times it procs within that same min. We are speed casters can easily get spells to 0.5 second cast time. So proc gear> all pretty much. I would even contend if you find an item that procs off spells but has lower int / pr then use that item vs the pure stat item. Currently i have 7 items that proc off a spell cast + synergism. If i use my pet i do about 900-1k dps zone wide for raids (i am agi wis spec..... agi int spec would be much higher). With less proc gear i would do like 700 zone wide. Crits wouldnt give me that 200-300 dps boost unless it was like 75+% crit chance. The only class that really can come close to that is crusaders (68% from aa).

With the right AA spec and right proc gear you can easily do upwards of 2k DPS in a raid, without any buffs.

Go for procs first, crits second, and BOE third. This applies to adornments as well. Except for the neck adornment, in which case i prefer the BOE cuz I don't feel like switching out my neck slot just to mezz in case its ever needed.
