Hi,

We all love the game, and think the developers are doing a great job, but let's face it - this issue is not getting sorted out fast enough.

I think one of the problems we have here is that people on guk are using one thread, splitpaw another and so on - there's threads in the server-specific forums, this forum, and the general gameplay forum. What I think we need is just one thread for us to put a sustained pressure on SOE to get this one resolved (i.e. this one!).

The things that disturbs me is the reply from tech support in the 'Guk Public Chat and Mail Server down again' thread:-

If the issue recurs, please send me a PM. I may not respond if I've got a lot on my plate, but I do read them.

We're clearly not putting enough pressure on SOE to fix this - we need lots of PMs, and issues posted so that Smed comes downstairs and tells TCR-JasonC that the only thing he has on this 'plate' to get this problem sorted out once and for all!

I humbly suggest that whenever you log on and find the chat channel broken, that you append a message to this thread saying which server you find it on (and PM TCR-JasonC!).

Just in the spirit of consolidation, as of the time of this post guk mail, server chat, and friends functions are not working.

I sent jason the requested pm (while he was on line) but I guess he had more important things to do (hopefully things like shouting at the people who were supposed to have fixed this) to reply in the thread or send me a pm.

I also contacted grimwell concerning the lack of communication over this issue. It would be nice if someone would tell us that they are aware of how serious a problem this is, but given their past performance on issues like being booted to character select, de-level lag, npc rendering and graphics stuttering Im not going to hold my breath.

I work in software development, and I think the problem here is that it is being treated as a minor issue, when it actually cripples gameplay for everybody apart from those who only solo (and for those who only solo - why not play Oblivion and save yourself the monthly fee ).

I play on splitpaw, and since these problems started hardly anyone has logged in on my guild (assuming the guild window still updates properly), and it's a nightmare trying to find a pick-up group. It's really making me think twice about playing.

I find it almost surreal that most people don't seem that bothered about it. I would have thought the eq2 forums would be in meltdown with people complaining. The fact that there's not much official mention of it on the forum, or as a MotD when you log in is disappointing. I wonder if its even reached the radar of people like Scott Hartsman.

I posted about this in the Guk thread, but it probably bears repeating here, since there's no sign of when the problem is actually going to be fixed. If you attempt to use a mailbox and then fail due to the mail/chat server issue, it will prevent you from using a merchant, opening a trade window with another player, and several other things. One way to clear this problem is to /camp to another character or to the character select screen. Another is to zone. But a faster and easier way is to use the command /cancel_mail This workaround does nothing to fix the chat/mail server issue, but it keeps the issue from interfering with other things. Also see Grimwell's post at http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=365375 where he says there may be issues on Guk on 4 June. However, it's not just Guk, and it's still not fixed (as of 10am 6 June Pacific time). 06/04/2007 15:29:03 Subject: Grimwell
Players on Guk may experience intermittent problems with the chat and mail systems today. In some cases people are getting stuck in the process of using the in-game mail system. If this happens to your character, you can use the command ‘/cancel_mail’ to break the action and escape the wrath of the bug. The dev team is aware of this issue and updates on its state will follow in this thread. Thanks for your understanding.

Quote by: Grimwell Update: This problem continues to be persistent, and the team is working hard on sorting out a permanent solution. It is proving to be a very nasty problem so I do not have an ETA for when it will be permanently repaired, but will make daily updates to this thread until I have an ETA and resolution. As a reminder, if you are getting stuck in the mail process, you can use teh ‘/cancel_mail’ command to break that action.

Atleast that tells us they're looking into it.

Ive had to come back to work to use the TEM (the building vibrates too much during the day ) but when I left a couple of hours ago mail, server chat and chums list were all working for the people that I spoke to.

Didn't try mail, but all the chat channels were back working on splitpaw last night - my thanks to the team for resolving this!
