Previously, I played a Coercer to 70 and now that I am rerolling (returning from another MMO), I wanted to make sure Coercer is still the best choice for me, as I know Illu has some cool skills too. If there is anyone here you has tried both to very high levels, could you please give me your opinion. I have already started the Coercer and with previous experience I know it is fun, but am wonder if the "grass is greener or more exciting on the other side." I also play on a PvP server and recall before the joy of putting the reactives on people and watching them die when they attack me. What do Illusionist do as damage? Are they better in solo PvP then Coercers? Lastly, is the Illusionist quicker/faster for killing named mobs. Thanks all (I will be putting the same post on the Illu forums)

I know nothing about high lvls but I've found at low lvls I have a much easier time lvling coercer than Illusionist. People seem to say its the other way around, but for me trying to do all the quests coercer is way easier. Point being if your used to coercer it might be the one to lvl with.

I havent played a coercer but i think i know them well (to some extent i talk with a lot of coercers comparing illys to them etc) I do play an illusionist tho. To my understanding Coercers have become situational while illusionists are stable. How this is. Charming a mob in PVP (never charm a person) you have to really find the right mob. If you do find the right mob you are pretty godly. Compared to an illy who summons their own pet and their pet adds bout 200-300 extra dps to the illy. Illusionists over all are a more "safer" class to play (out of the enchanters). What with charms breaking and what not. My coercer friend whenever he duels anyone in places like NT he can one shot people with his summoned pet (good luck having an illy one shot). Illusionists aldo dont relly on reactives they just have straight dots or dd's. Over all soloing i find the illy safer than a coercer BUT the coercer will generally kill faster than an illy. For green and blue ^^^ non named i generally take em down in under 1 min (nothing to spactacular about that). Blue ^^^ named bout 2 mins. White and above ^^^ named or not named varies. I have spent 45 mins on a kill (where a coercer prob would have taken it down in under 5 mins). Dont get me wrong an illy can do a lot of dmg they are generally more burst damage (when solo). Both classes can take out the same heroic mobs it just comes down to time. In pure risk v reward the illy wins because they are lower risk for equal rewards. Factor in the time element (risk + time) v reward i would say is fairly even. I dont know the whole PVP aspect of it however so cant help you there.

In terms of skill v skill of the two (well spell v spell).

Mana: Coercer has higher burst mana regen, Illy has higher continual (over time) mana regen. (believe there was a post on the coercer forum about the mana regen of each class.

Dmg: Coercer relies on reactives mostly, Illy relies on dots mostly. So again coercer has higher burst dmg (if they get hit) where a illy ticks their time away with dots.

EOF AA (exlude kos cause same aa tree options for both: I dont know much about the coercer eof aa sorry, but for illy the ones usually followed reduce or add extra dmg to their dots, and ones that increase their buffs. The extra dmg to dots is acutally a decent boost to the illys dmg. 2 - 10 second dots the added dmg is extra like 500+ dmg when the dot expirs. 2 - 24 second dots 1 adds extra 500+ when expires other reduces the time to a 14 second dot (it alread had the extra dmg when expires component to it). So that is really 3 fast duration dots does decent dmg and can be cast sucessvily to have them continually on the mob for constant dmg.

CC: Illy has an easier time with mezing than coercer (this is cause eof tree boosts mezing). But coercer has easier time with stuns and such than illy. This really is retty insignificant difference as CC is often looked down upon and with high enough subj and what not they can equal out.

Pets: As described above Coercer higher dps pet but more dangerous. Illy lower dps pet but stable (actually as an illy you can time your spells with the pets and it also roots to have 2 roots and keep a mob stunned for about 28+ seconds but its dificult to do this at times. Illys also get a dumbfire pet which i dont think coercers get it doesnt add much in the way of dps (maybe 50-100) but it taunts so can keep a mob off the illy for a second.

Buffs: Pretty similar i guess but a coercer is more melee oriented and illy more caster oriented. It seems in raids illys are more flexable than a coercer. If a coercer isnt in MT or OT group (maybe scout group) then their abilities are going more to waste. Where a illy can be in any group and be as effective its just a matter of changing your buffs.

Thats just my take on the differences. Either class is really powerful. There isnt really a grass is greener imo for the enchanter. Each have strengths and weaknesses but each are top teir classes soloing mobs (again i dont know PVP aspects of the classes).
