I recently returned to EQ2 after a long break. PVPs, AAs and what not weren't even around at the time I last played seriously. This should give you a fairly decent amount of AA without blazing through the content too fast.

How do I properly gear up?

This has been said a million times and I'll say it again. Harvest, harvest, harvest. If like me, crafting is boring as [Removed for Content] for you, then find a reliable crafter you can bug forever to make your gear. Tip as best as you comfortably can and return customers get good treatment Also, if you are a caster, upgrade your spells as best as you can, ad3's and masters when possible, since you want a better chance of hitting and therefore winning. For melee based upgrading your gear and then CA's is probably the best way to go.

How do I know when I have enough AAs t my level?

Eh, this one is kinda iffy. My personal rule of thumb is if you can manage to have more AA then your adventure lvl, you're doing fine. But I think once you have a look at your AAs and decide what you want, you won't have a problem getting lots of AA once you have a goal. Also, I made a toon to try out Neriak and unlocked, I got 14 AA and lvl 20 with only gear I picked up along the way. But, be warned, its a pretty hot place for gankers atm.

How do I stay alive?

HAHAHAHAHA! No, sorry, but you won't stay alive. This is a PvP server, ergo, you will die. Alot. -Especially- since this is your first toon to the server. BUT! Regardless of your toon type, groups will always increase your survivability, be it a little if you group with others who are in the same boat as you, or alot if you get picked up in a group with some elitist lvl lockers. Either way, grouping will help you stay alive. Also the gear and AA parts of this reply will help obviously.

Thanks for any input and when responding, please remember that I am a total novice to PVP and alot of the newer EQ features.

Well, theres my advice to you, I hope you're able to find some of it of use. Just remember, you will die, it will [Removed for Content] you right the [Removed for Content] off, but if you persevere, knuckle down and do what my friend Saliz does, and write a list of all the freeps who tbag his corpse, you'll do fine.

Don't lvl lock, people do it to make themselves feel better then new players, but really, they suck.

If he was planning to stay locked, then I would agree with you, but theres not much point in lvling so fast that you end up with app1 and maybe a couple ad1's across the board, treasured gear at best and hardly any AA, because the twinked gankers don't get any better as you lvl. As for your question, depending on your class I would maybe lock at 19, just run around and do quests till you get there, then go harvest yourself some steel clusters, pelts or dandelion fiber depending on your class, get some MC gear made and if you got lucky, you might have some rares to get a few ad3's made. At 19 in the start zones you will not be getting ganked by people who have gotten their M2 at 24. Theres a zone in the Commonlands, at the top of the tower near the Nek griffon tower. If you get somehow manage to get to the top, ask someone to clear the way for you, or get smuggled up if you can't invis or stealth, then zone in, harvest everything you see, zone out, repeat. IMO it has a lousy drop rate in there but thats made up for the fact that its a pvp free zone and is a huge bonus to new players. Now go run around Ant/CL and finish up any green quests, maybe hit Fallen Gate or Blackburrow, get some more AA and welcome to the pool and don't eat yellow snow.

Adventure points. Gearing up is a pain, basically I'd suggest harvesting until your eyes bleed. It stinks, it's boring, and you'll get killed while you do it but there's really no better way. Some people create low level crafter alts that they leave under level 10 in order to harvest with immunity-I've never done that because I'm not a fan of harvesting. What is a respectable number of AA's for your level? Actually, I'm asking the question because I don't know myself. =/ I have 24 of them now and I'm level 25-I could have had more but I really wanted my Master II choice so I turned exp back on in order to level faster. I'd suggest just reviewing your tree and seeing how many you want. For me, I set a goal and when I got to it, I thought about leveling again. Staying alive...well, heh-if you figure out how to do that; please send a tell to Awesome on the Freeport side of the Nagafen server. ;D /hugz!
