I bought EverQuest II as soon as it came out. At the time, I was living in England, and so I suppose I ended up with the UK or European version or something; I never thought much about it. I cancelled my subscription just before leaving Europe, for monetary reasons, and did not think too much more about it. After hearing plenty about how much had changed and how I really owed it to myself to check the game out again, I decided to re-subscribe (after checking online that my characters were still there on Unrest, my server of choice; they were). Now, I find that whenever I play, I am only given the choice of logging into a European server, on which I have no characters, and on which I certainly do not want to play; I have not even lived in Europe for two years now. I want to play the characters I put weeks and months of effort into on Unrest. But the game is not giving me the option. Does anyone have any idea what to do to get access to my characters again? I cannot even find them on the EverQuest 2 player portal anymore; could they have been deleted when I re-subscribed somehow?

But the american servers and the european servers are divided into two regions and you have to select which region you want to log in to. You can freely switch between regions. You can switch region on the login screen (I think it is the screen where you write your password, but I'm not 100% sure), the drop-down menu is in the upper right corner. SoE doesn't normally delete characters when you cancel the subscription, so they should still be there.

The region select is actually on the very first screen, where you choose "I Accept" or "I Decline" to the EULA, indeed in the upper-right corner. I do not think I ever would have noticed it normally. And indeed, my characters are there, even though they stopped showing up on the Sony page when I re-activated my account. Perhaps because I did not pay extra? Well, or it could have been a mistake on my end for all I know, obviously, since the characters are still there, so it hardly matters if they show up on the external page. Hooray! Now if only I could go back in time and try logging into the US version to see if my account was on "free trial" mode there.
