View Full Version : Sound issues with X-fi?

Apologies if this is a common question. I searched the knowledge base and looked back about 10 pages and didn't see anything that helped. I recently purchased the game, and for the first few nights all was well. Tonight, I log in and I'm getting broken and crackling sound for some reason. I get hisses and cracks, then when in combat all of the sounds become distorted. The first thing I tried was setting it to Creative Labs EAX2 from EAX4. This helped for the first fight or two, then it reverted back to crackling and distorted. The only setting I've found that works at all is Dolby Surround, but for some reason it doesn't sound all that great. It works, just not all that well. Is this a known issue with Creative Labs X-fi cards? I know they've had problems with other games in the past, but this is the first I'm experiencing. It's doubly odd that this problem just started manifesting itself tonight. Any suggestions would be appreciated. DX logs on request.

I just started having the same problem a couple of days ago. Before that everything was fine...

When I get crackling noises I've to pull out the speaker cable and plug it back in. Maybe not the same issue as you, but I had a lot of issues with the X-Fi compared to previous SB cards.

Nope, not a speaker issue. Same results with two different sets of speakers, and a pair of headphones.

Have the latest versions of direct X and driver.

I'm having the same problem, the sound is fine in all my other games, but its when I'm in EQ2 that I start to hear crackling noises, and some sound just flat out doesn't play.

Yeah, that's the problem I was trying to describe. It's definitely not a speaker problem, as all other games sound fine. EQ2 even works with the Dolby Surround setting. It's the EAX settings that seem wonky. Anyone have a fix?

I completely uninstalled directX and the drivers, and reinstalled them. This seems to have fixed the problem... I only had about an hour to test it out though. But for now anyway it seems to be working fine again.
