color shower question

So I am sort of new to playing the illusionist, but I was in a raid recently and I noticed that color shower had different legnths of duration when I cast it, some times it would do the full effect, others it would only last about 3 seconds or so.  I am wondering if the reduced duration has to do with the stifle effect that is on color shower and it triggering the epic reduced duration?  If that is the case what is the best way to avoid this from happening in the future?

The duration is determined by your target (Epic or Heroic). There are 2 parts to the spell - the stifle and the damage (2 ticks If i remember correctly), so the damage portion of the spell itself is fairly quick, most of the spell's duration is actually the stifle. True epic targets will have around a 2s spell duration for this spell, while Heroics will have the full duration.

It is a 10 second dot, during the raid I noticed that some times when I cast the spell it would go full duration and other times it would only tick once or twice instead of the 5 ticks and damage from termination from AAs.  So that is why i thoguht it was from the stifle component immunity for  epics, but I was sort of confused as it switched back and forth during the raid between fulll duration and short.

Some mobs are really heroic and tagged x4 if you use the detailed frames. Just depends on the type of mob.

To clarify further, even though the spell duration is significantly reduced on epics, you still get in all the damage, it's just done very rapidly. Your logs will/should confirm this (mine do).

That is awesome then I didnt even think to check my parse data, but that is awesome then a huge burst dps at least for AoE mobs mine only does like 300/tick and 350 at the end, only lvl 56 right now, but that is almost 2k per mob, that rocks especially in a 3 second time frame.  My main is a wizzy so I never had any of this epic reduced duration everything was straight foward, illusionist is just a lot of fun to play though.  Thanks for all of the responses <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

wait untill your lvl 70 with the master version of shower....with the mob fully debuffed and crit hits i do 1-1.5k dmg per tick its rocks i just wish the reuse timer was shorter <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
