This is a story about a girl elf named Illuditari T'Shev who was abandoned at birth after the Shattering. Her mother was a dark elf and her father a wood elf.

Chapter 1

Beginning Turmoils

Rain pelted her fair face as she looked up ,watching the clouds move as she sat on a rock in Castleview. It had been a while since the sun had shown his face. Tp tp tp tp tp. Footsteps moving quickly were headed toward her with echoes, from the clang of metal armor on the ground. She turned her purple eyes to the direction it was from and saw a young boy, no older than herself, panting and breathing heavily. The boy had yellow-blonde hair framing his face and his eyes were a light green like the tree's leaves. His skin was light tan and his ears were rounded...that would make him a human.

The boy told her after a few long moments of catching his breath, "Are you...Illuditari?" He held a letter in his right hand with a broken seal on it.

The girl nodded and said with a wispy voice," I am. Are you the one who broke the seal on my letter?" she asked while smiling lightly.

The boy sighed and groaned,"Yes, I did...I'm sorry. I'm very curious." He laughed in his light voice. He handed the letter to Illuditari and assured her, "Don't worry,I only read the top half." When a sigh and a glare at him was given from her, he shut up and sulked. He knew that no matter what, it was wrong to read another's letter. He had, after all, broken the messenger's number one rule.

Illutidari smiled as she opened the letter. When she pulled it out, she sighed and took off her cloak and used it to read the letter. The letter read: Illutidari T'Shev, you are cordially invited to start your journey as an adventurer at The Isle of Refuge. The ferry will be leaving on Scorchedsky, Feastday 23. Bring anything to have. You will be given the armor and weaponry according to your class. All extra items will be sold for money and given back to you. Cordially, Murrar Shar/ Tayil.

Illutidari cheered,"Finally, I get to do what I've always wanted!" She smiles and asks the boy,"How old are you?" Her white-gray locks fell from her shoulders as she asked him.

The boy blinked multiple times and stated,"I am Julius DeMaine and I'm going to be seventeen tomorrow." He then softened his expression and asked her,"And yourself?"

Illutidari sighed and smiled,"I am Illutidari T'Shev and I'm going to be seventeen in three months." She smiles and says,"And I hope you have a happy birthday," as she gave him three gold coins. This made Julius stunned and speechless. While he stared at the coins, Illutidari walked off to her inn room and collected her chandelier, mirror, bed, bulletin board, and otherwise. Tomorrow would be Scorchedsky, Feastday 23, so she had to sell her bed and otherwise while she had the chance.

When she left her inn room, every piece of furniture was gone. Illutidari headed to the innkeeper and stated,"I'd like to relinquish ownership of my inn room."

The innkeeper sighed and mumbled,"We lose more customers that way." He looked up and questioned,"Room 1708, right?" She nodded and the innkeeper stamped a Relinquished stamp on her card and tossed it in his drawer. He then smiled,"Your inn room is relinquished. I hope you have a nice day, ma'am."

Illutidari headed to the sewer and made her camp for the night. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep against the wall in the darkness of midnight. Apart from the travellers running by from just getting off the nighttime ferry to Castleview Hamlet, she had a restful sleep. In the morning, a guard woke her up and said,"Ma'am? In case you're here, waiting for the ferry to The Isle of Refuge, the ferry'll be here in a few minutes." Surely enough, it was.

Illutidari boarded the boat and spotted Julius on the boat. She ran to him and smiled,"How'd you get here?"

Julius shrugged and said,"I got the same letter you did." He grinned and put on plate armor and sighed,"This stuff's heavy." He then spotted the Guardian sword and shield. He knew right away it'd be perfect. "I'm going to be in The Overlord's Outpost. You?"

She grinned and put on the Assassin armor. "I don't really have a choice. I was only living here because they allowed me to until I headed to the Outpost." She took a vial of poison and dyed her blade with it.

Hours flew by as they conversed excitedly about what'd happen. The first one to fall asleep was Julius, talking faster than Illutidari could swing her daggers. Illutidari was the last to fall asleep. During the night, whispers were heard from the crewmates,"Which one should we kill first? Which one looks juiciest? Which ones are evil? Which ones are good?" These crewmates were trolls and ogres, so of course they'd whisper such. The firstmate was a Dark Elf, named Lizsea K'Lorn, who hissed at them,"Shut up! If you make them wake up,our plan will be ruined!" Of course,it was very quiet so they wouldn't wake them up. The trolls and ogres immediately shut up and went back to work. They were used to working all day and night with no sleep.

The captain looked up and saw land. It was The Outpost of the Overlord. They'd have to pull off their plan quickly in order for it to succeed while they were out of the Tower's sight. He then whispered orders to his firstmate,"Kill a few of the guests onboard and injure the crewmates and the remaining guests. Injure yourself and me before the Tower sees us."

Lizsea nodded and immediately chose three: Illutidari, a dark elf, and an arasai.

He had red hair...emo hair, even. His wings were red, blue, and black and his skin was a light ashen color. His armor was that of a priest, not surprising. She swiftly slashed his neck and just like that, he was dead. Liszea turned her eyes then to the female dark elf. She had purple-white hair and a fair complexion. Her skin was blue-purple and she wore the bearings of a necromancer. A smirk played upon Liszea's face as she deftly placed her blade in her head.

Liszea's hungry eyes turned to Illutidari as she grinned. Illutidari was already awake and icily glaring at her with...strange, her eyes were purple before... Her eyes had turned to a blood red and her blades were held expertly. Liszea grinned and hissed softly,"My, my, my...a hybrid...? This will be quite interesting." She took her stance and ran over to Illutidari. Tptptptptp. Illutidari smirked and disappeared, startling Liszea. Suddenly, "GYAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!"

Blood trickled down Liszea's back, along with a small portion of the green liquid that had dyed the weapon. Gratuitios, please keep posting. It seems to take about 4-5 posts before people start having enough of a feel for the story to start making comments. Niko & I were both at a point of almost giving up on our stories, when finally we started getting feedback. Actually, I think the Grand-Master, Great Poohbah...Ekuthh is probably the ONLY person on the board who could write a new story & be ensured of getting feedback after the first post.

Valk is being flattering.

My first postings here were largely ignored. It wasn't until I started Kinslayer's Tale that I really hit my stride and people started posting feedback. So it takes perseverance and time.

I'm reading, and so are others. Keep at it, you have a promising start.

The dark elf has blue skin, of course, but she had a light purple color of hair-- not unusual, either, though. She looked up and winced, the sun was now too bright-- she had gotten quite used to rain and clouds.

It was a perfect day- not a single cloud in the beautiful blue sky. Well, not a perfect day to kill wood elves, but that's all the better. It trains you more for a more dangerous setting- fighting in the desert.

The dark elf grimaced as Illutidari- she obviously could tell immdeiately what she was. That didn't mean she had to tell the boy next to her, though... he might not know and thus, he would be better off not knowing. Instead, she took on the usual quest to give them and dialect.

The only words Illutidari and Julius had actually listened to due to being completely bored out of their minds were "Go talk to Trainer..." This might have been very vague, but they knew it had to be the combat trainer. After all, who else would they be sent to?

Well, they were right. The combat trainer was a huge Barbarian, with matted hair atop his head colored brown and his skin a dark tan, but black-colored woads decorating his entire body. He had a booming voice when he welcomed them and told them to defeat a battle dummy. For Illutidari, it wasn't so difficult. For Julius, it took slightly longer, about 5 seconds, perhaps.

The combat trainer exploded, laughing hysterically and congratulating them. When he finally stopped laughing after a few minutes, he told them to return to Tayil, the dark elf in front of the tower.

While trying to avoid being seen coming from his combat training grounds- which, by the way, was very small- due to humiliation, they walked back to Tayil and told her of their success,"We did it, can we have a different quest now...?"

Tayil tried to keep from laughing and said,"Oh, all right. Go to Chef Gorga just outside the gate there and come back to me once you've finished helping her."

Julius sighed and thought,"This can't be too difficult, right?" He took the quest- as well as Illutidari, who was quite upset by the triviality of it all, and walked through the gate, feeling like their being watched...

*************************************************

Loraine watched them the entire time- concern crossing her face. Why did she act so merciless in front of the Captain and yet act so blissful in front of everyone else? Her eyes peered from the bushes as she watched their every move. While the dark elf was talking to Julius and Illutidari, Loraine noticed Illutidari peek back at Loraine-- her eyes a dark red in warning, basically saying,"Don't get too close-- don't watch too long-- you may lose your eyes."

That's it! She had multiple personalities! How many, though, Loraine didn't know. However, it seemed that the blood-desiring personality only activated in times of need or when the main personality was in danger, consciously or unconsciously. Danger, though, that she couldn't protect herself in. It would've been very interesting to learn more.

Whether Loraine, Illutidari, or Julius knew it or not, they were being watched in the shadows by another anonymous person.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble editing this chapter part.

This is sounding pretty good! Just a note, though, someone with schizophrenia is spelled "schizophrenic". Also, schizophrenia is not the same as having multiple personalities, which is what you seem to be conveying. The appropriate term for that is Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Confusing schizophrenia with DID is a very common occurance in the US. Since dissociative identity distorder may be a little strange to phrase in your story, I would suggest just calling it multiple personalities. Sorry to nit-pick concerning this, but I was a counseling major and confusing these two terms is one of my pet peeves.

For more information on the symptoms of schizophrenia see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizophrenia.

I am enjoying reading your story and hope to see even more!

I feel like a Guardian now..." Her eyes averted the gaze of Julius's eyes as she said such.

Julius groaned and looked at her strangely, a curious look in his eyes betraying the look on his facial features. "What's wrong with being a Guardian?" His emerald eyes shone brightly as he asked.

The hybrid simply shook her head and mumbled,"Nothing, I just don't like the idea of being one is all." She then dismissed the subject, even though Julius had quite a few more questions to ask. She then chose to improvise. "Instead of talking, why don't we work on the quest we have?"

A smile crossed Julius's face, and he stated,"All right. We need to kill bees..." He then looked around the grove... noting how big the bees actually were... and shuddering at the sight of the human torso-sized insects. He turned back to Illutidari ever-so slowly and twitched, the syllables of his sentence dripping like poison ooze,"I hate bugs, Illutidari..."

Illutidari chose to humor him, but told him,"Call me Illu, please." She stood up steadily and drew out her daggers as she targetted a weak-looking bee. A ferocious look crossed her face, but her eyes did not change color. She ran over to the bee and started slashing the bee to pieces, quickly leaving the bee merely a thorax with wings. She walked closer to the bee and crouched down, plucked the wings off very slowly and putting them in her backpack.

She then tried to find Julius, who was nowhere to be seen. Where had he gone? Then, she realized... he had gone to a half elf nearby, who was a priest, and was... probably flirting. The half elf was approximately 5' 7" or so, no taller than Julius, who was 5' 10" or Illu who was 5' 8". She had one piercing in her bottom lip and brown-blonde hair. She seemed to have blue eyes from a distance, but Illu wasn't sure. She also had tan-brown skin, obviously a human-wood elf mix.

A disgusted look crossed Illu's face, but was soon replaced by a regular, non-feeling expression. Instead of asking him to do something he didn't like doing, Illutidari chose to finish it up and desert him so he could live "happily ever after" with the half elf b-tch.

Not long afterwards, she finished killing the bees and completely ignored Julius's words. His very existance was to be seemed unknown to her, if he came up and started talking to her. Chef Gorga soon gave her a new mission: gather elk livers! Illutidari was quite used to removing another person's body parts that she was not utterly...disgusted with this quest.

When she walked past Julius, he turned his eyes to Illu for a mere second and noted the expressionless mask on Illu's face. He sighed and asked the half elf,"Want her to join the group? She's a friend of mine."

The half elf looked Illu up and down and said to Julius with a flat-eyebrowed face,"No. She is too...common-blooded." A tongue was stuck out to Illu when he wasn't looking.

Illutidari then began to build up sadness and rage, her weapons swinging violently at the elk calf before her... which was already dead and maimed. She screamed in frustration and took out the liver of the calf, which, miraculously, was in perfect shape.

She took multiple livers after killing multiple elk and gave them to Gorga, returning to Tayil with speeded, furious movements.

*******************************

Loraine groaned and held her head, a gray, dark setting in the area. Where was she? Loraine looked around and sighed, she was in Sythor's Spire.

Next to her was the wood elf who knocked her out. Loraine gasped and crawled as far away from him as possible, making the wood elf smile. The wood elf assured her,"I will not hurt you any more than I need to, so there is not a need to worry." His curiosity then showed as he asked her very much like a gentleman,"What is your name, madam?"

Loraine looked stunned as millions of thoughts ran through her head. After a few minutes, she managed to spit out,"Loraine D'Morte. And yours?" Her skin was already paling from not enough blood, after all... she was a vampire-dark elf. Well, she was a dark elf before she became a vampire, but that wasn't the point.

The gentleman smiled and replied,"Aditirillu T`Shev. 'Tis a pleasure to meet you." A look up and his purple eyes shone brightly with witty bliss. Loraine looked surprised as she heard him.

It was almost exactly what Illuditari had greeted her by, the nearly exact same sentence. Execpt... Illuditari didn't tell her Illu's surname. Why was that?

Perhaps she has a secret she must keep, I wonder what it is, Loraine pondered, with full intention to learn.

Her purple eyes shone brightly in the midday sun, dweat edging her face and her white-gray hair sticking to her neck and back, making her very uncomfortable.

Tayil, being who she was, simply giggled at the request and told her,"Go talk to Assassin Vamir by the second gate from Seaside Grove. He'll give you you're next quest." She smiled lightly, then noticed the human who had been beside her was no longer there and her face fell to an unhappy frown. "Where's your friend?"

Illu look up with a cold glint in her eye(s) and told her,"He ditched me. What does he matter, anyways?" A curiously suspicious apparel showed in her eyes and she crossed her arms, which were anchored on her chest already.

Tayil then smiled fakely and assured her, lying,"He doesn't, I was simply curious is all." Truth be told, though, he did matter. It kept others from trying to gang up on her, she thought to herself.

The hybrid smiled, and said,"Okay." She turned around and ran off into the grove. What she didn't know was that on her path to Freeport, she would come face-to-face with more trouble than she could handle.

The camp she eventually came across was inhabited by a human with brown-black hair and brown skin, an iksar with black and yellow scales and a robe on (obviously a warlock), and a ratonga who wore the bearings of an assassin. Thus, Illutidari guessed the ratonga was Assassin Vamir. She walked up to him and smiled, greeting him,"Hail, sir. Are you Assassin Vamir?"

The ratonga nodded and grinned,"I ams. Yous must bes Illutidari, yes?" His left eye was covered by a patch and his right ear was pierced by a few copper hoops and his right eye, which was visible, was a gray-yellow color. After a short examination of the rat, Illu nodded. Vamir then got serious, replying with a long-winded explanation of why he was here and what she must do. Illu interrupted him after a few minutes,"Okay! I'll go kill the wilderbears!"

She ran off and ratonga sighed, then saw the wood elf walking behind her, following Illu. Vamir shot an arrow at him, missing his head by a mere inch or two. The wood elf smiled and told him,"I'm not a Tunarian, there is no need to harm me."

Assassin Vamir looked at him suspiciously and told him,"Then why are you here, wood elf?" His right eye was incredibly narrow and his voice dripping like warg saliva on a platter of mangy mole rats. He told him,"Any who're following a Freeportian are trying to kill them, that's how it's been and how it will always be. Now leave."

The wood elf just stared at him, then smirked. He then...dis...ap...peared.... and the Assassin cursed angrily to himself. It was true, he was supposed to train her, but how in the world could he train Illutidari when she would die soon?! Then, it hit him...

The wood elf and Illu looked extremely similar; their eyes, their facial feautures, their hair types, and their build. They even had similar ear shapes, which was extremely rare for a high elf-looking hybrid and a wood elf. They had to be related for that to be possible, and even then it was quite rare. So, he had to have a reason to go looking for and following her... thus, Vamir knew that he was trying to either kill or talk to her.

Vamir chose to allow him to go. If Illu didn't live, then he'd take the blame. If she did... he'd take the reward. It would be better that way, so he could either get killed or honored. Either way, he still did not trust the wood elf, nor any "good" race-appearing person that came by.

************************************************** *

Loraine sat in the tower under the staircase, glaring at the entrance before her, trying desperately not to succumb to the temptation of walking in daylight. It was extremely hard to do. Her every thought pushed her away from common sense, Loraine's sanity slowly slipping from her grasp.

Her hands itched to reach out to grab the light and push herself up, Loraine's thoughts pushing them to go, but wit telling her another thing entirely. The feet she sat on were moving constantly, shivering with anticipation and curiosity. Sweat ran down the sides of her face and down the mid-section of her forehead, exhaustion closing in on her and soon, she finally noticed the cellar nearby.

Sneakily, she opened the cellar and climbed down the ladder, sunlight reaching, but just barely, through the stain glass ceiling enough to cause steam to rise from her fingers and nails. She knew that if she called out, she could be killed for trespassing on another person's authority. When she felt it was safe, she suddenly knew it was far from it when a moan was heard from the other side of the cellar.

Gnnnnnuuuuuuaaaaaahhhhhhhhh......

Loraine began to cry, it was a zombie and there was no way out. She'd die in here or she'd die out there. She could choose to die by the zombie, who'd eat her slowly, or to die by the people, who'd cut her up into little pieces. Then again, she could also choose to die by the sun, which would burn her.

Of course, she chose to die by the people/sun. She desperately pushed the cellar door open and fell on the floor behind the Captain, who asked her,"Are you all right?" His curiosity then made him look in the cellar, and he smiled. "I see you found where the zombie was. Sythor really needs to go in the cellar more often."

He held his hand out to Loraine, who was thoroughly confused by all this. Why was there a zombie in a cellar, and who the heck is Sythor? What is this tower called? and Who is this guy? She smiled and took his hand, standing weakly with a hood over her head.

Aditirillu had been gone for quite a while now. Where had he gone? That was the loudest question of them all that she had, and she was fully curious of such that were nearly impossible to answer.

Interesting, how the trivial things in life like losing a friend can be so important to other people, yet menial to yourself. This was merely the beginning of Illutidari's tale, a tale of dangers, logics, and untold adventures that would be interesting to her, but not others. This is the beginning of her adventures, which never last long ever.

Normally, I'd write more but today has been real long, what with the cans to the recycle place and other stuff. Strange, how the sentry did nothing... then she realized. A ratonga coercer had charmed the poor creature. In her opinion, having to fight your friends is worse than death. Then again, the sentry would probably get killed by the coercer after the charm wears off... so it didn't matter how he died.

CRACK---

A speedy and blurry movement next and Illu had her weapon at Aditirillu's neck, the "stalker." Not only could she kill him at any moment, but there was a catch. His blade was at her head, so if either of them moved to kill the other, both would die. Fortunately for Illu, Aditirillu smiled and scoffed sarcastically,"You always get there first... How I envy you."

A grin crossed Illutidari's face and she stated,"That's because I practiced more. That's what I thought to expect from you, sister." Illutidari's face grimaced at the unusual compliment, her way of saying to hurry up. So, in response, a "Fine, I've come to take you to Freeport right away. The Overlord wishes to speak to you," escaped Aditirillu's throat.

"Now, I know you're lying on that one. He hates our family, why would he want to talk to us?"

A laugh, sounding like a maniacal laugh... which wasn't very good... sounded and Aditirillu then got serious. "He only wants to talk to you, he doesn't know that I'm your brother yet. Don't get your hopes up, he'll probably just ask you to come back here and "take care" of the Circle of Elders. Probably skip the other training steps since you're that good... I think it's just an attempt to have one less Dyrin in the world."

Illu turned and sighed,"Of course... How did I know you'd say that...? Wait... were you listening in on one of The Overlord conversations?!" A concerned expression and a slight glow to her aura said she wanted to know-- and badly.

*********************************************

Nighttime, Loraine's favorite time of all. Well, not really. She enjoyed night a lot, but she missed the morning and evening sun much, much more. Ro had something... strange about it that Loraine enjoyed watching. Since she couldn't anymore, she watched both moons, one of which seemed to be relatively... different from the Luclin she knew and loved 500 years ago, way back when Loraine was only 10 years of age.

Loraine, being a former dark elf, had been immortal in both species. However, vampiricy gave her more strength, insight, intelligence, and otherwise... with two steep costs. One: Day walking, and Two: Feeding. Day walking was now a lost cause for her, and feeding... would be very difficult while she was at the Outpost. Unless she fed on the wood elves at night, she would starve.

"Captain", as she called him, would occasionally check in the cold, dark cellar to make sure she didn't get suicidal and jump out. "Many a vampire," as he would say,"have come to death while they wait in there for night. Many more, have become living puppets for Sythor and merely food for his antlion larvae." He would then close the door and go back to his patrol. What he didn't know, was that there was more vampires than just Loraine in the basement.

Glowing red eyes lit up the place as a vamp noble stood up and grinned,"H'ello, mine comradte. My name is Count Du'jad D'Ryil. Vhat is the name of the beautiful vampeer that I stand before, hm?"

Blush crossed Loraine's pale face as she managed to spit out,"My name is Loraine... and I am pleased to make your acquaintance, Sir..." She then sat down in her own corner, away from the crowd of vamps on the other side.

The tall undead man shook his head in disappointment, and stated,"No, no, no, no, no. I require your prefix and suffix title, and your first and last name. May you please repeat your name?" His white-gray hair fell from his bun as he shook his head.

A blush of embarrassment crossed her face now as she stated,"Ah, I'm Nightshade Loraine D'Morte, Destroyer of Mortals."
