OK, i just started to play EQ2, and being an old DAOC player i decided to play on the pvp server (i love pvp). I play a lvl 20 SK on nagafen and have been having fun to some degree. However the constant ganking is getting rather frustrating,..i cant walk 15 feet out of the crossroads before some stealth ranger is attacking/ganking me. Im just curious if this is something more prevelant from the 20-30 lvl range then at higher levels (am i just gonna have to knuckle down during T2 due to constant ganking becuase it gets less frequent at higher levels? which i woldnt mind doing if i knew that there was "light at the end of the tunnel".

What i dont want to do is get ganked every 10 minutes at lvl 70 and all the way there (i heard it gets better the higher lvl you get because the t2 twink fever is wild) is this true? does it get better @lvl 70?

if not pls recommend a good pve server for me to join that has a strong freeport population.

one other thing that id like to add,...i see alot of Nerf HT threads, IMHO they are unfounded, in my, albeit short, experience nagafen is a "rangers gone wild" server, thats all i ever encounter in the commonlands. And its impossible to cry nerf for our one uber spell (thats on an insane cooldown) when rangers have many spells at their disposal that are just as damaging or nearly so and they can use them over and over again. Yeah HT hits hard,..but before i get HT off, rangers usually have me at 10% health in a matter of 2 seconds.

ps. i predict the rangers will get defensive to my opinion>

It is true that there is a level locking, twinking your scout toon to kill innocent newbs fever going on. I suggest you take it like a grain of salt and level up past t2-t3 imho-- or do more instances that's for sure. I have 2 t7 toons and even though there is still ganking going on I believe that t7 pvp is more fun. I hear your frustration but don't give up. PvP servers are less boring than PvE servers oh and ya I have a couple of higher toons in pve servers.

Tips: 1) If you are unguilded, get into a good one. Ask yourself what type of gameplay you would like to play more pvp or pve (ie raiding) or a little of both.

2) Upgrade your spells and your armor and jewelry all the time to be up to par with your level. Mastercrafted stuff is really good before you get to T7. Harvest alot so you can sell or get rares to make your mastercrafted.

3) oh and ya return the favor go to Antonica and kill innocent newbs.. hehe I'm sure people on the other side are in the same boat as you in CL hehe.

Level locking happens at all levels. I have some advice for you though:

Find a good guild. Find some experienced players who know the game, and can show you the ins and outs. There is absolutely no reason that an ranger conn'd to you should be able to kill you solo. They're just so weak. If they snare you, you have ranged attacks, root you, use a potion and cure it. Debuff them first, both wis and the taunt, and hammer away.

All MMOs are gear dependant, and EQ2 is no different, and it's even more important on a pvp server. so get your gear set up. Lvl 20, do the armor quests (talk to the guy next to the forge in EFP up in the shops district, he's inside a building, so look around for the quest feather).

But most importantly.. find a good group to roll with. Learn the game, learn how to be the hunter, not the hunted. Watch the game change before your eyes

edit: condemned is a good fp side guild that's newb friendly (not to be confused with n00b). Send someone a tell, you'll get invited.

SKs are a very good class, the thing is you are very gear dependent. I have an SK and do extremely well in pvp. Here, let me find a previous reply of mine to another SK with my advice.

"Shadowknights are VERY gear dependent, but once you have the gear, and the spells, IF you play right and think smart, you are one of the tougher classes to kill. Don't worry about HT, you don't need it, I only use it for runners (Which unfortunately means it is always down) I would recommend focusing purely on INT and STA, and always fight in offensive stance. I highly recommend going down the Reaving line in your SK tree and next go down the Int line in your Crusader tree. Always keep a shield equipped for your shield bash, and put Infernal Blessing next to it. Use your shield bash before Infernal Blessing, this will give you 2 seconds to cast it. Also when you get in the high 20s, you will get a limited pet, your Tainted Sacrament. I recommend using your Spiked Boot before you cast it, giving you a little un-interrupted time to cast it."

If a game has Player vs player, theres going to be ganking, no matter what, so, I advise you to return the favor to QEYNOS and kill their newb players, or switch to permafrost or so.

PvP in EQ2 = hard mode and Nagafen is the most hard core of the PvP servers because of its high population. You pretty much need a group to do anything on Nagafen. If you are looking to go to another server then consider coming to Vox where you can get away from the gankers if you are inclined to do so. Greater Faydark and Butcher Block Mountains are a good places for new players quest and harvest rares for decent gear. Another tip is resists and mitagation are more important than stats for what ever class you play.

What a SK complainign about ganking???? Hmm Let me Tell you about Harmtouch and then you can be a general like every other Shadw Knight!!!!! Hit LVL 20 and Lock you character (21 OK). Bring you harm touch AA to max. so you do about 1100 damage. Then come to Antonica one shot somone (its easy with maxed HT) camp 15 minutes one shot somone else and so on and so on and you will be a geneal in no time!!!!! While you are at it one shot me a few times .. please.... im use to it!

Oh and by the way yes rangers are a pain. All scouts are overpowered and it pretty well stays that way throughout the game. The only ones that can stand up to the is the healers and they have to be on there tows. at least it takes 5 or 7 fast shots to kill you and you get the entertinment of watching them dance aroun you.

Stupid Sony GET RID OF THE ONE ShOT KILL!

Edited for the PS

Please dont tell me to get my gear up at 18 I am close or above 1000 in every resist. A very hard thing to do my disease resist is 917!

O Yea and level locked..... about 80% of 15-24's are twinked in varing degrees and level locked. Its a very fun lvl to be in.

PS dont think im a whiner I will fight anyone up to 4 levels above me Some I will win some I will lose but it wil b a good battle either way!

Goingtogetya LVL 18 Warden - Destroyer Vox

Quasemoto lvl 49 Monk- Destroyer Vox

Vanier - LVL 55 Conjuror - Destroyer Vox

Vanier - LVL 70 Conjuror

Backstabber LVL 70 Guardian

Proudad (retired) lvl 70 Conuror Everquest 1 (PVP)

God I got to geta LIFE!!!!

I've fought SK's that were blue to me, had them deep in the red while I'm in the green (no PvP gear, btw), and had them HT at the end and kill me dead. I generally don't hold up well against SK's, but macro-ing in EZwins doesn't suit me, and I'd rather either win fair & square (you know, by sneaking up on somebody and stabbing them in the spine) or run like hell. HT is nasty, and I always approach SK's expecting to get it dealt out. I'm usually solo, so getting pwnd is something I can relate to, but that's just what my availability dictated. You get used to it. The above advice is sound; gear up, group up, and you'll do fine. SK/scout teams are a lethal combo. I'd say stick it out and you'll enjoy it overall.

oh i missed your bottom comment. Yes the pvp servers are very scout heavy. Imagine ...

1. invisibility (below 20 only ones that can see you are casters cant use see invis and stealth potions)!

(btw at 20 buy a butterfly totem and then you can see them coming)

2. unstoppable evac, you can make everyone lose your target (invis as you run) for those battles you know you are going to lose.

3. Deadly arrow shots some that go through anything...

4. 56 run speed.

5. Great snares on the run.

6. Huge melee damage and you can cast on the run while chasing someone or running. (casters if they get close you are dead!)

Wow very fun class to play below 20!!!!!

If gotyanow doesnt get his healing going right away he dies.... If he does the scout dies (unless he gets away)

BUT the BEST GAnker OUT THERE IS a SK with there HT no exceptions!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm... think Ill make a Shadow Knight So I can play every 15 minutes ........ and be a general!!!

You are lvl 20, get totems. You can get Totem of the Chameleon, so you can invis. You can get butterfly to see invis, jaguar to see invis and stealth. You can also get wolf totems for run buff (out of combat). Rangers can still track while you are invis but with the see stealth totem you will see them coming.
