I've always had the normal QH lag but every other zone was fine. I started a new DE and running through Neriak was 10x worse than QH. Is anyone else experiencing this? I made it to level 16 without dieing only to get lag death falling off a ledge in Neriak! lol

My lag is being caused by the fire everywhere. I love the way it looks tho, so I'm just being careful rather than turning down my particle effects. Or I suppose I could make a performance profile for it <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Try turning down the particles there & seeing if it helps?

I.. don't know... what you... mean... ARGH!!! *falls into a chasm for the 18th billion time as he lags out*

For me Neriak is smoother than Freeport in all areas. Perhaps people with less video RAM are running out and it makes them chug...? My card has 512 megs.

It feels like, on my system, theres certain areas where significant loading takes place every time I pass over them. Is this the start of experimentation with "seamless" multi-zone areas?

Other than needing to wait a few seconds at a few locations, I don't get much lag. 2.8GhZ cpu, 1 gig ram, 256 meg card.

well to me it looks more laggy, but then all of Freeport or Qeynos is as well for me. Outdoor it doesn't matter then all goes smooth

Yar! Neriak does indeed have a few kinks to be worked out still. I'm working on resolving them over a few updates. Given the range of systems out there, I can't claim I'll "fix" it completely - but I'll definitely try to improve it. It's mostly a memory issue - odds are, when it lags, yer hard drive is workin' away swappin' stuff in and out of vmem - so let me see what I can do over an update or two (it's no small task sadly : /

<p>It just might be because of the number of PCs present at the time, or some other factor that I can't control, but Neriak isn't as laggy for me while I'm playing my new Arasai Wizard toon, then during the times I'm in there with my 70 Defiler (differences; horse, cape, but illusions off). I've checked that I've had my settings set to the same. Just plain wierd, but hey, it wouldn't be PC Gaming then, would it?</p>

Not laggy at all for me. Nice and smooth, just like everything else in the game. <img src="/smilies/ed515dbff23a0ee3241dcc0a601c9ed6.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<cite>Sassinak wrote:</cite><blockquote>For me Neriak is smoother than Freeport in all areas. Perhaps people with less video RAM are running out and it makes them chug...? My card has 512 megs. </blockquote>I also have a 768MB 8800GTX, so it is not an issue with the card failing to handle the video memory in Neriak. I don't usually have lag issues in Freeport or other cities. I noticed I lagged terrible entering Neriak in from the newbie area, but at the tradeskill/bank area -- it was fine. It's not the textures initially loading into memory as you enter the zone however, because after finishing at the bank/craft stations, I headed back towards the gate to the newbie area and in some very specific spots, again hit horrid lag & freezing before exiting the city. Those textures should still have been in memory.Depending on what hardware/lag issues seem to be matching up, it may be an issue with some GeForce 8 series drivers, or perhaps an issue with people with high end cards cranking up certain very specific graphics settings, that don't trouble people using more "reasonable" settings. Some specific setting that ONLY causes issues in Neriak.

Based on what the Dev above said it sounds like Neriak has a few Memory Leaks they still need to clampdown. That would explain why some have an issue and some don't as well as people only lagging in certain areas.

<cite>KnightMarshal wrote:</cite><blockquote><cite></cite>I have a 8800 GTX with 768 ram and I lag. </blockquote>8800 GTS 640, plus a Core 2 Duo E6600 processor, 4 gigs of system memory and a 74 gig WD "Raptor" 10k RPM SATA drive in my case (hence I load through zoning faster than about 75-80% of most folks), and I lag as well in there. Also, for some reason, there's some issue with Cazic-Thule and Flora being enabled on this system I built. Unless I disable Flora (without touching my other graphical settings mind you, which I run at roughly about 85% total capacity in terms of maxing everything, sans shadows, without any issue at all in almost every zone...only time I ever tone them down is if I'm going to be in a raid), Cazic-Thule is sluggish to the point of being unplayable. Not sure what's up with that one.

As a test, I reduced my graphics settings from <i>"zomg I gotta 8800GTX"</i> down to just "Balanced" or something, defragged my hard drive (which I do pretty often anyway, like once a week), and switched to the EQ2 directory on my 10k raptor drive, and now I have no lag in Neriak. My guess is that there is some combination of some unique graphics in Neriak that the 8800 drivers have difficulties with at ultra settings, but handle ok at moderately high settings -- especially if most of the people reporting issues in Neriak all have GeForce 8 series cards. So far, all the people mentioning GeForce 8 cards are mentioning problems -- but as I said, my issues there went away presumeably after I switched to a lower setting (Not that I consider that a solution, as I got this card specifically so I *could* run EQ2 on max settings, but it would not surprise me if GeForce 8 drivers specifically have some issue with something there, and only with some certain setting enabled... so perhaps EQ2 + NVidia together can figure this one out as it may well be a driver specific issue)

It's not just 8000 series users....my friend I duo with all the time has a 6000ish series Nvidia card and she has the same lag going on there.

I've formally relocated to Neriak from Freeport (like all blue blooded teir'dal should, hint hint) and frankly it's quite laggy, even with an "upper middle class" everything [system] ranging from 2GB of performance DDR2 RAM to the Radeon X800 Pro and 3GHz processor with 8MBps turbo cable connection ~shrugs~ and by laggy I just mean a bit choppy in the same few places over and over, mostly the Dockside Market area and definitely down in the busy tunnel area near the broker and banker (and other vendors and services, like crafting tables, etc). Sorry but it's true, and my system is probably the "ideal" target system in all of Eq2 (not low end economy but not yet quad-core World Class, but close)! I run on "balanced" settings btw, like most.
