Hi Guys,

Last year sometime....can't remeber when exactly, I bought a Hall in South Qeynos. Having a lowly Tier 4 Carp at the time, I sent him to Tradeskill working on making all sorts of goodies for my Shiny new Huge Hall. 2-3 Months, and a couple tiers later I finally finished outfitting it,and wiping the acursed weekly Status required to pay for it. One of the first things I realised when I started my Carp, was that if ya wanted to sell stuff as a carp, the best way you could do that was to have items in ya Inn Room, so People that did'nt know about EQ traders sites, could get a feel for what the items looked like, colour range, size etc.

Out of all my tradeskillers, I have enjoyed my Carpenter the most, simply because they make some really nice pieces of Furniture. But as many of you are aware, the lack of Tier 6, and Tier 7 reciepes is Frustrating. My Carpenter has been the most rewarding Tradeskiller I have played yet.....not only because I found it Difficult to level him through Tier6 & 7, but also because a lot of the items he crafted look awesome. As DominoDev said in her posting (5/16/07) Carpenters could well be getting more Exciting new Stuff to make....Woot, bring it on. And Bah to combining Tradeskills...get rid of that thought SOE

Anyways after my Carp had outfitted my Hall, I decided to outfit a couple of the rooms, with Just Tier 6, and or Tier 7 stuff. My thinking behind this was, anyone coming to my hall for other items, (Armour, Spells, Food, Furniture, etc) could see what the differant tier 6 & 7 Furniture looked like. I do hope that any new Furniture Carps get in teh Future has more colour to it. That has been one of my biggest grips with my carp......trying to find pieces of Funiture with Colour. When I out fit a room in my Hall, I like to see Coulour....not just differant shades of Brown!! At the moment I am thinking about completly re-vamping the top floor of my hall....getting rid of everthing up there and starting from Scratch. Out of all the floors in my hall, that is the one floor that does'nt have a real "theme" to it. It has a lot of odd bits, and pieces in it. Who knows come November when next Expansion is out, maybe the Furniture theme for that Tier will be the theme for that floor.

Anyways...just thought I's share with you all, my thoughts on Carpenters.

Speaking of displaying the furniture you can make to customers, before my long break I was going to have my bank alts each take a 1 room inn in Longshadow and spread my portfolio of items over 4 different rooms (rugs, lights, paintings and vases in 1, chairs and tables in another, etc.).

I'll probably do this in the very near future, especially considering the new places in Neriak have vitalized the furniture market a little.

I have a Carpenter, and 3 alts. Each of the alts have a fully decorated home, in different areas of Qeynos, with an effort to decorate them differently. This is my method of showcasing the furniture.

This does help people get perspective on the size of the finished product. Although the sites place each peice of furniture next to a book so that you can get an idea of scale, I don't often place my toon next to a book.

The next "nice" step would be to allow people to buy from your "showroom" floor. If you could flag items for sale, so that it becomes purchasable from a right click by visitors. Otherwise you have to either have a duplicate of everything for sale, or wait to make contact with the buyer via email or /tell.

SC

Yes, they must make contact with me. When it comes to tradeskilling, I am risk averse. I make items tht are for display, or commissioned. There have been too many times in the past that mastercrafted items have languished in my sales containers. I started this practice when I began making mastercrafted altars.

This practice may not suit everyone, but it does me.

Additionally, I don't keep more than 2 or 3 patch kits on the broker. I do however make mass quantities to order. The end result for me is coin in hand.
