Ever since LU35 my Illusionist personae will randomly ignore my /pet ranged command and move into melee range all on it's own. The pet will start the fight normally at or near me casting ranged attacks. Then the pet will move half the distance to the mob and cast another ranged attack then it will proceed to move into melee range for the rest of the fight unless I force it to back off and then tell it to attack again. I am positive that the pet is in ranged mode and yet it will still move into melee range a lot of the time all on it's own. This is a very annoying bug as it forces me to micromanage my pet constantly so that it is not getting killed. I checked in the Illusionist channel and other Illusionists are experiencing the same problem.

does it happen to use any PB spells ? I know as a coercer, some pets will move into "attack" range if they are too far away to cast their spells. Perhaps something it is attempting to cast is within melee range ?

No, the Illusionist pet uses the same spells that I have and I have no PB spells.

Let me preface this video by saying that I absolutely suck at fraps and video compression. But this is what my pet does in a lot of fights now. My Personae (pet) is in ranged mode when I rooted this bugbear. It immediately moved up cast one spell then went into melee range for the rest of the fight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im8yVdenZBY

Hmm, I was going to double check about one thing. You may have to give the /pet ranged command every time you summon your pet. It looks like you're using my pet window ui mod so I can see that the /pet ranged button is pressed. On my coercer I know that I always have to press /pet ranged after charming something but it always seems to follow directions. Did you try asking in the illusionist forums? If you try to pet ranged while you have already told it to engage in combat it will ignore the comand until it is told to back off (Which case it will then range from) or till the mob dies (which case it will then range from the next mobs). But each time your pet dies you must /pet ranged the new summoned pet.

Yes, you do have to put the pet into ranged mode after each summons. After the summons the /pet ranged button on my UI window is not depressed. This pet had been out most of that level before that FRAPS was taken. And as xOnaton1 pointed out you can see that the /pet ranged button on my UI is depressed. (second button from the right on the pet bar) The Illusionist forums here are a ghost town or I would have asked the question there. I did ask in the game wide Illusionist channel last night and several other Illusionists were experiencing the same issue.

Rolled a Illu a few days ago, and am experiencing the same thing. I though it was suppose to be the norm until I spotted this thread

I have noticed that I will have to type /pet ranged everytime after I have logging in or resummoned.

Telling pet to back off from an ecounted also seems to reset the ranged command
