I'm wondering if there's any information on how to create a guild chat program for EQ2.

I don't really like the one on the web-site and figured I could program a chat client my self.

lucky for you it still works from the website, for a lot of players this function has not worked for more than 12 months now......... There are some documents around if you search for them from google try searching for EQ2 miranda Im sure that when Mr MOD comes back from sleepy town though, this will be moved to the EQ2players support craptastic forum whereupon your message will go unheard and unread very quickly. Sorry to sound so negative but after months of asking why Guild chat from EQ2players does not work you kinda get a tad ******* off with it. Over to you HOLYMOLY

This is exactly what I've done. Used the third-party chat interface to make a custom guild chat client. The web-site version is unreliable at best and even when it works, it's clunky to use. The third-party interface uses a "custom" jabber protocol which makes it inconvenient to work with normal, jabber clients. Since guild chat only uses a small subset of the Jabber protocol, implementing your own client is actually not that difficult. Check out this link for more info: http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...2005&id=546 BTW, many moons ago, I asked if SoE planned to implement any additional features through the Jabber interface, such as friends lists or access to other chat channels. The developer who responded said yes, that was a long term goal. But this was before the revamp of the EQ2Players site. When the revamp occurred, the thread where I asked that question quietly disappeared from the forums and I've never heard anything else about the topic. If any dev's read this post, can you comment on whether this is still a goal or is the third-party chat interface a dead horse now? Qayla

I'm not having much luck finding my electronic copies of the documents, I have hard copies on my desk, but I can't seem to find where I archived the original that I downloaded. Any chance that the links might magically become "unbroken"?. <winks at any dev who might be watching> - Qayla

There are two documents that were put out by SoE way back in 2005:

Using Guild Chat with Miranda

and

Using Guild Chat with Third-Party Clients

there are links to copies of the original Word documents at the end of each of the HTML-ized docs.

My EQ2 Guild Chat client seems to be working. (Although there is it is by no means complete.) If anyone would like the be a guinea pig and try it out, you can find it at http://eq2gc.yewl.com

Keep in mind that it is a work in progress, it implements chat, but has very little error checking or documentation at this point so you'll have to experiment.

-- Qayla

Oh wow... after searching through jabber and trillian junk for a couple hours this program looks awesome!

First off, thank you for your hard work in coding such a useful app!

Anyone out there using it? No offense meant Qayla, but are there any brave souls out there that have tried this and can confirm that their usernames and passwords have not ended up in the hands of third-world gold farmers? I've been trying to think of some sort of packet sniffing program I could use to ease my paranoid mind but I'm not coming up with anything remotely easy at the moment.

This looks great, and so much more convenient than the web based guild chat. My only apprehension is that i have no way of knowing that my info is only going to Sony... I really hope I haven't offended you, Qayla, but this would be a great way to farm some user accounts!

Has anyone tried this fantastic looking app?!?

Thanks,

Psy

not only does this program work beautifially, but it also works through a proxy, I can use guildchat at work now =)

I highly recommend this program for any using the advanced guildchat feature & having trouble with proxies. Also, if you install the program on a home system, you can just copy the exe (through email or something) to another PC, as the file is a standalone program, doesn't even create a settings file.
