So iam down to these two classes, the dirge and the troubador which do you guys suggest? I prefer one that is better in groups but still has soloabilty. Thanks in advance!

Both classes take quite a bit of skill to solo with but if things go bad the troubodor has a mez and the dirge does not. Some people prefer dirge because they are higher dps and can kill mobs quicker but I think they lack true survivability.

I've rarely had a dirge out parse me in a group or raid. However since most people play scouts or shadowknights you might want to go dirge.

Typically there is greater demand for multiple dirges than there is for multiple troubies. With that in mind, I'd suggest dirge, simply because they tend to be in greater demand.

The OP wants some advice on which class to play, Troub or Dirge. Let's try to stay on topic... I personally love Troubadors in groups and raids, but then I'm a Mage and they're built for us! I personally have a little 40 Dirge I play solo or boxed, because I think the class is more well rounded and interesting. It depends though, Dirges go with the melee classes and Troubadors with the casting classes, so what kind of classes do you want to be grouping / raiding with?

I said since everyone plays a scout or shadowknight h/she may want to go dirge. It's 100% on topic.

Either is completely suitable and in-demand in the end game. I suppose that's because Bard DPS is not significant compared to the other scouts, so too few reach the end game where they really really shine.

If there's a warm spot in your heart for pajama-clad bomb throwers, roll a Troub. I'd choose the Dirge, however . . . since there are lots of scouts and SKs out there. Somehow increasing their DPS is viewed as more important than allowing the Wizzie to let loose. No one seems to care when the Wizzie dies . . . they just hose down the spot where the Wizzie once stood and move on.

Regardless of your meaning, since everyone "plays a Scout" and a Troubadour is a Scout also, you're not making any dam-n sense at all. We also have no way of knowing that "everyone plays a Scout or Shadowknight" to the degree that you make it sound. On average I see far more Mages and Fighters LFG that I do Scouts, but that's just hearsay on my part, much as is your statement. Anyway OP, you can't go wrong with either choice. Neither class is seriously more [Removed for Content] than the other in solo combat (which I take it is something that is important to you, I know I wouldn't want to be worse at solo'ing than my opposite sub-class), both classes are highly desired and welcome in any group at any level and as a Bard, you usually end up having your choice of raid guilds because your class is a rarity and there are positions opening all the time.

He "made it sound"? Or you heard him wrong? He was perfectly clear to me.

A new player would not know how huge an improvement a Dirge makes to a melee group or a Troubadour to a caster group, despite what is said on the stupid class descriptions. But whatever, I have better things to do that argue about this stupid comment. Peace.

I always liked a Dirge over a Troub. With a troub, Mez comes at level 50 and that is nice, but the charm stinks like my Troll's prepared food. I also felt like my troub had more trouble dealing with mobs than my dirge. In groups, both bards shine but I felt I had to worry less with my dirge.

It is hard for me to explain, but maybe I am Troub hater. I felt like I had to go through a whole line of casting and it was not timed well before recast of my abilities. On my dirge, I felt like everything was timed just right to recast my abilities.

On Crushbone server, I see alot more melee types than casters and a dirge would help them more than a troub.

Whatever bard you pick, you can always betray to become the other bard. It seems the best time to do this is around level 34. I notice alot of masters between 30 to 34 for bards than any other tier.

Whenever they add musical instruments with buffs and add poison in Update 39 then we will finally be a force to be reckon with.

Thanks all i really appreciate the help! I chose a dark elf dirge on AB.
Twoboxer2 wrote:
He "made it sound"? Or you heard him wrong? He was perfectly clear to me.
Sorry I have to chime in here. The guy said "everyone plays a scout, so play a dirge" in essence. It was a fallacious statement, a dirge is a scout after all. So no, the meaning wasn't clear at all, in fact, I'm still not clear what the guy was trying to say. As for the topic, I find it very interesting that so many people prefer dirge to troub. I made a troub because it seemed to be a rare, yet desireable class, and thus far I'm quite happy with it, but I'm not a raider so its possible that makes a huge difference. I do like playing a class that isn't a dime a dozen.

No, I didn't get that out of his post at all, but re-reading it after you explained it, I can see that's probably where he was trying to go. Thanks for the clarification, that makes more sense!

Don't you just love reading comprehension threads? Gah, if only the game were more interesting, I wouldn't be here lol . . . but its boring for me now, so . . .

The only legitimate arguments one can make with the sentence in question are 1) Is it factually correct, ie, are there a lot of scouts and SKs around while levelling up, at least more than mages, and 2) whether it was noob-friendly, ie, did it provide enough useful information to a newcomer who understandably lacks the in-game class knowledge and experience to make his/her own quality decision.

The OP got it . . . rolled a dirge.

And "Grats Erin !" A touch of class too-seldom seen!

Now . . . on to the gold-spammer threads.

Wow.. I didn't think my comment was too difficult to grasp. Next time I'll spell it out with smaller words at a slower pace.
