I've played MMORPG's for quite some time, Everquest for 4 years, a couple space games, CoH/CoV, EQ2, then stopped for about a year, then I fired up Vanguard recently.

That game seriously has problems, though I do like it, but the population is crashing to the point where I cant group anymore until they do some serious server merging.

I keep hearing how good EQ2 is, that its not the same as launch, etc. How is the population per server, and how easy is it to group? I'd hate to get attached to another game only to watch it slowly die, even if a game is very good, it isnt fun when no one is playing. I plan to play a healing class, I've always played clerics, and I absolutely refuse to solo, honestly are the server populations high enough to easily get some groups after the newbie levels?

Server populations are generally pretty good, although given the age of the game, the population distribution favors the higher levels. However, with the recent addition of Neriak and a new character slot, there's a wave of alts, so the lower level game is active again. If you're going to start, now would be the time.

My suggestion is to join either a PvP server such as Negafen, a Roleplaying server such as AB, or one of the regular servers such as Crushbone, these seem to ave to biggest populations, there are a few other servers, you could also try the trial and check periodically at the server selection screen to see which you want to paly if you decide to buy the game.
well all pve servers load light or at least have been for the last few nights at peak time. Best place to go for ther most would maybe be AB as that might load medium but then u have to listen to people go on about somthing u couldnt give a dam about in game. Naggy and ven are pvp servers which have been loading heavy recently but if you want to pve and all that I wouldn't head there. While some may say its a great experience pveing with the pvp environment they have obviously hit something to pure. All u get for pve over there is a knife in the back, and then 3 more when u spawn and immunity wears off. But if u like pve/pvp well then head over. I personally pve on pve servers and pvp on the pvp server.

I personally play on A.B. and it's always pretty active, 10-30 people at a time at the QH auctioneer, not hard to find group from 10-70, especially with the neriak addition. The "Role Playing Police" have pretty much died down, as long as you don't create with a [Removed for Content] name like......"Ilikegirls" or something immature. Great community and great grouping, sorry to hear about Vanguard, i quit shortly after release, and hope you chose everquest 2 and you have fun.

Good Adventures,

Ivellious

I'm hoping they offer another free transfer so I can switch to AB if possible.

As has been stated, population is skewed to Level 70s and the "regular" game is boring for them atm. It's been far far far too long without an expansion giving 70s a reason to do anything other than raid.

The good news is there are lots of people who seem intrigued by the notion of a Fae Berserker, and Neriak's opening seems to have generated a lot of alts. Now would be a good time to join and get to 70 by November.
