View Full Version : PvP: Did I join the PvP server by accident?

I recently came back to EQ2 to play as the Fae/Arasai. I started my Arasai on Vox (without playing close enough attention I guess) and have played a little this week until I reached level 11. I recently noticed a small box next to my character name that said I was eligible for PvP combat. For some reason I didn't notice this until I was killed twice today by what I thought was a monster called "Slayer Medro." I found out later that was another player and I was being killed in PvP encounters.

I don't want to participate in PvP, but I don't see anywhere to turn off my partipation. What is the story with PvP? Is it restricted to certain servers? Can I turn off my participation? I find this kind of frustrating and I don't really want to start over.

Short version: Yes, you accidentally joined a PvP server and no, there's no way to disable PvP on the PvP servers.

Fortunately, being only level 11, even though you don't want to start over, it's really not that bad to start over on a non-PvP server right away.

I guess I have some work to do over the rest of the weekend.

What a silly mistake to make. Though in my defense, this is very poorly explained by the documentation. There isn't anything in the in-game help that explains this that I could find.

When you reach the server selection portion of character creation servers designated for PvP are maked as such.

Oh sorry about the kills. I am "Slayer Medro" I made the same mistake over a year ago but I stayed with it. I probably would have left EQ2 a while ago if I had not found PvP.

You're level 11... it takes like 2 hours to get to level 11. This will sound more rude than it's meant to be.. but get over it. If the first 11 levels are a big deal to you, you're going to go insane trying to level in the rest of the game.

How cruel people can be on here.

I selected Vox too quickly because it was the only "light" and must have missed the PvP next to it. However, I wouldn't have assumed that you couldn't turn it off anyway. As I said, my only defense is that PvP is not explained anywhere in the documentation. It doesn't say you can't turn it off on a PvP server. It doesn't talk about level 10 being the gateway. The only way to find some of this information is a news item stored on the EQ 2 players site.

I didn't want to abandon my character so I asked if PvP could be turned off. Is that such a ridiculous thing to assume? You can turn PvP off in SWG, CoH, and CoV. You can't in Lineage II. So it varies.

Anyway, I'm back to level 10 with a different character so it wasn't a huge deal, just an annoyance.

It was a mistake, and its easy to start over.

As for the earlier rudeness, you just attracted some PvP server people to reply. They're gnats. There's a reason why there's only a small sector of servers dedicated to them. However, you put "PvP" in the title of your post so its like moths to a flame.
