I dont know if this has been talked about (at least i havent seen a discussion on it). But in neriak the person who does the teleportation quest to teleport around neriak. When your done with the quest and ask for more info on the quest he starts talking about the sea gates. Where they were once active but were destroyed by the forces of Qeynos and Kelethin. He also hints that they are trying to reactivate them. Could this be part of the fire pot portals when Kunark comes out? If anyone knows any more info on that specific sea portal thing would be interested in knowing.

Part of the firepots? That would be interesting, though I personally doubt it. There never was any such thing as a seagate in Neriak in EQlive, not physically or mentioned in the lore, but now that we finally see it in EQ2, it makes perfect sense as to how and why they have a fully active port inside a sealed cave system. The firepots connected all of the cities together. I dont see Neriak's seagates being the only or main factor for the entire system working.

Its seems like a nice new option for travel in the future.

KOS Spires for interdimensional travel druid portals/wizard for norrath travel Bells for dock travel Boats for eof travel griphons for zone/region travel Next seems to be sea gates for sea travel... maybe a hint of player manned boats in the future.. maybe a hint for more EoF type boat travel to lets say RoK. The sea gate seems to be a way to make an artificial zone line seem more realistic. Instead of just seeing a boat disappear.

i thought that Sea Gate was what they used to invade Faydwer with their ships

My first thought was that it is currently out of operation because they're going to use it as part of Kunark travel. I'm guessing there will be alternatives for the other cities. On the subject of non-working teleporters, in the area where they sell tickets to Nek and TS, there's a Teir Dal standing by a non working teleporter, complaining that it seems to be out of service. Again, presumably for future use.

I'd just like to add that currently, travel anywhere from Neriak is horrible.

I've heard it said "It isn't easy being evil".

I was tickled pink to find out teleporting from Neriak to Nektulos Forest puts you right beside the Spire. I would have hated to end up on the dock. Since I'm teleporting - not sailing, but you do have to account for extra travel time in your schedule as a Neriak resident.

No worse than what a young resident of 'that tree city over there' faces though. I'm pretty sure the younger residents of both Neriak and Kelethin feel a real sense of accomplishment upon reaching their respective dock in Butcherblock or Nektulos

Vyrance wrote:
i thought that Sea Gate was what they used to invade Faydwer with their ships

A quote from the in-game book Armies Across the Sea, a chronicle written by the assassin who killed King Tearis Thex of their journey from Neriak over to Faydwer.

The ships passed beneath the teleportation arch. There is no sound save a soft thrumming that hangs in the air above us. Mist curls up from the surface of the sea, covering each ship in thick draperies. No matter how often I have made this journey, I am always amazed that no ships have ever collided in the fog.

In the story, they seem to be outside when entering this portal, as they talk about the wind, and the sea, and such (there's an entire book before this quote), but I'm sure that the easiest way to transport ships from Neriak to the surface would have been via Sea Gate. It would also make sense that bigger sea gates would have been made to cross the Ocean Of Tears quickly.

For an online site for the books, I used The Athenaeum

NEWSFLASH! We interrupt this thread with some breaking news! As revealed in this thread (for which I humbly apologize for not posting here) the writing on the Neriak Sea Gate has been translated. It reads: Meow Very Love Fish What is the significance of this? Have Kerran gangs invaded the docks and tagged the Sea Gate!? Is Queen Cristanos possessed by the spirit of a cat!!? What awaits Neriak in light of these portentious words!!!? We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

There's an NPC standing just outside the Spurned's library that offers a quest (I did it at 27) to help maintain the gate, or at least, the water underneath the gate. Had I known about this thread, I would have copied the texts into here. She talks a little bit about its history. I can't remember now, but for the life of me I swear that another Neriak NPC had chatted with me about the gate as well. They were used to transport their armada here and there to surprise people.

The NPC talks briefly about the sea gate if you ask him questions about the portals. Wasnt much info to do. I havent gotten to 27 on my evil fae (12 hour work days 6 days a week are killing my EQ play time). When i do tho will def check out the text fro that npc you mentioned.

^ Only one problem. Us Good races can't use Neriak, so how would we ever get to Kunark?

They are gonna build Sea Gates in FP and Qeynos? and maybe one in Bucherblock?

I don't think you'd want that. They are put there to transport the armada to places so it can attack, not for sightseeing paddle-boats to hop from here and there. egad.
