The Arenas are dead...and really can you see a reason why they wouldn't be dead? Gameplay in them is pretty sad, repetitive too. I got bored and decided to sit down and jot down some ideas for what I think could be a good idea for an Arena Revamp. Or atleast get the devs creative juices flowing.

It's along post so I'll just get started... __________________________________________________ ______________________________________

For starters we should keep the Arena Champion concept(it is nice to play as the NPC races), lessen the amount of potions floating around(or take them away with my ideas), and add new areas. I believe to make the Arena really a place to be they should add some significance to it, a reason to PvP in it. WoW has battlegrounds which I will admit is by far one of the best ideas ever...IMO anyways. Players have a big reason to pvp and it offers both motivation and reward something EQ II's Arena system has niether of to some extent. There are Champions...and...titles...thats about it. I hate to rip from it but I believe a simular system would work VERY well for EQ II. BEFORE YOU FLAME ME PLEASE HEAR ME OUT!!

ATM the Arena is very dull and repetitive, yes it can be fun, but in the end the rare overpower monster wins it. I remember back in the DoF days seeing Orc Ravagers EVERYWHERE...just slaughtering.

I was once thinking that expanding CTF games, making it where I know it is a rip, but you got to go to the enemy territory, steal it and make it back across the battlefeild and to your flag is the goal. Currently all you have to do is grab the flag and in about 5 seconds you've scored. It's far to easy. Balance the Arena Champions where players can actually work as an effective group with them, so players can wage war in CTF.

Other ideas I think would be nice kidna do away with the arena aspect but turned the arena into PVP Warzones. With many types of battles to add variety. NOTE: For the sake of length: Freeport refers to Freeport & Neriak. Qeynos refers to Qeynos & Kelethin, and Haven refers to Haven. __________________________________________________ ______________________________________

Battle Types for both Arena Champions and Player Characters: Tournament: A ranking system where Champions team up and fight up the ranks, their should be like 3 or 4 variying tournaments to keep ranknig from beeing absurdly long. With Level restrictions in place so all tournaments are fair. EX: City Specific Tournaments: Freeport Cup, Haven Cup, Qeynos Cup. These are mainly composes of teams of the tournament's city and battles are between citizens of that city. Mainly for new players. As teams are of your own faction. Worldwide Tournaments: Nagafen Cup, Venekor Cup, Vox Cup These tournaments have teams of people from any city. Basically whatever/whoever you want for your team.

With each victory in any cup teams gain Tournament points which after reaching a certain amount makes them eligable to enter the the God/SOE Cup which will be held only once every month or two . Where the top 16 teams enter a SOE sponsored and hosted Tournament and fight in a bracket system till one team is crowned Arena Emporer/Champion and will have to defend it's title at the next tournament or give up the title before the next tournament begins. All Tournaments rewarding a significant amount of PvP points, Money, Status and items. Tournament winners recieving the full prize, while losing team recieve a much lower amount as a consolation prize.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Capture the Flag...but this time an large field with elaborate bases. So once the flag is grabbed a player must escape and make it to his team's flag. Awarding Money, Status and PvP Points.

Death Match....self explanatory.

Reward for all matches being Money, Status Points, and PvP Points(for PvP gear and etc) Winning team recieves full reward while the losing team recieves half. __________________________________________________ ______________________________________

Player Character PvP: Basically the Warzones would be battles between Qeynos, Haven, and Freeport. I guess now...it'd be Qeynos & Kelethin vs Haven vs Freeport & Neriak battling for control of Traderoutes and land. We all know "The Far Seas Trading Company" is the big trading faction. So why not have the cities battle for the favor of The Far Seas Trading Company. Let alone, battle over their own trading routes. So perhaps a battleground where the cities battled by taking over outpost, forming temporary alliances with NPC races ex: orcs, gnolls, etc and the goal was to destroy the enemy outposts, generals and finally the Commander/Leader. The Winning side gaining control over that trade route. Maybe every week SOE could tally the win/lose count and the winning city(s) would then get temporary NPCs would sell rare items, armor, and etc based off the trade route that was won, as well as reduced broker fees. With the Far Seas Route determining the battle. EX: The Veiled Sea Trade Route would put players on boats, and as the boats manuever aronud the sea players would have to board the other ships, claim them for their faction then board enemy ships and kill the captain and lastly burn the ship. A complicated warzone but it'd be cool. Isle of Mara Trade Route would have players fighting for control for supplies developed by the Inhabitants of Mara and was be a ground based destroy the opposing faction's outposts.

Splitpaw Trade Route would have players underground battling to establish trade with the Splitpaw Gnolls. Battle would be alot of destroy outposts via explosive barrels with the goal being to defeat the leader of the opposing faction.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Escort Warzones: Where the warzone would have a major outpost where Ambassadors from some Rival empires are waiting to be escorted to a City Aligned Outpost ot negotiate trade. EX: Deathfist/Orcish Empire Warzone. On opposeing sides of the field are the FP Outpost, and QEY Outpost, with Haven's forces being hidden underground near the center/southern regoin, and both forces would have to make it up to the Orcish Empire Outpost way up in the northern region and once at the outpost, escort an abassador to their outpost while preventing their enemy from getting an ambassador to their outpost. After a set number of sucessful outposts we'll say 3. One side claims victory, like the previous idea, every week or so victories would be tallied and the winning side would recieve some NPCs would would offer faction exclusive, items, recipes, weapons, etc. Other Factions could be: Gnolls, Centuar, Lizardman

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- War:

A warzone where Qeynos, Freeport, and Haven did battle just for the hell of it. Due to fairness reasons only two cities could be in combat with each other...otherwise what would stop Qeynosand Haven from teaming up? Or Freeport and Haven from teaming up? So when choosing a Warzone to join you would see: (Your City) vs Qeynos, (Your City) vs Haven, (Your City) vs Freeport and of lastly Free For all vs Free for All Where sides are random, no city involved just all out war for no [Removed for Content] reason. No (Your city vs (Your City) obviously... The point being to raid the opposing forces base destroying their resources (Armory, Forge, Food Supply, Outposts, Archer Towers) on the way to the base and once inside to kill their commander/leader...who could be an important NPC like the Queen's top Guard/Advisor, or Lucan's top Guard/Advisor, etc.

The winning side just recieves gold, status-points, and PvP points that can be used to buy things. I felt concepts such as this would help bring life to the arenas. While the Warzone ideas would just use the Arenas as sign-up and zone in points i can see PvP picking up and much more people using the Arena.

This way PvP servers and PvE servers would have a reason to use the arena, and with such a vast selection of PvP modes and rewards...there wouldn't be overcrowding, and people could really get into PvP. __________________________________________________ ___________________________________ I'm sure topics like this or better than this have come up...I just wanted ot share my thoughts...see what people think, like, and or dislike. *shrugs*

Hopefully the Devs will think..."A revamp can't hurt."

Some of my ideas (well not all my ideas, but still ones I like none the less):

1. Implement the pvp combat ruleset (minus coin and item loss... keep the titles and infamy system)

2. Make a few new arena zones, both overland and dungeon. They could be carbon copies of existing zones (with no mobs/npcs) or brand new zones, I personally don't care. I'd really like to see a copy of Enchanted Lands and Fallen Gate as arena matches. Possibly even a zone like Bloodskull Valley or Firemyst Gully would be fun as well.

3. Increase the amount of players that can enter the arena to 48. This would allow for guild vs guild x4 pvp raids, or just an insane free for all deathmatch. Of course with the existing zones, 48 people would probably be too many. Maybe even 24 people max would be sufficiant and fun.

4. Implement an option to enable or disable arena pickup items such as potions and the other spell type items.

5. Make capture the flag where you actually have to grab the flag and take it to your home base. This would make for fun tactics and teamwork with an assault team to grab the flag and your home base defense team. I would also like to see a free for all deathmatch, and a domination style (rip from Unreal Tournament) match where your team controls several points for a set time. Last man standing and king of the hill would be fun too, but not nessicary IMO.

That's really about all they would have to do to make me happy with the arena... mainly #1.

Bumping your own thread is like calling artillery down on your own position... You can do it, but when you do it makes people less likely to join you.

There are other threads discussing this, and there is a semi-substaniated very hopeful rumor that changes are coming for the Arena. IIWY zi'd post these comments in one of the established threads BTJM.

Kat
