The lag outside the city of Neriak is laggy but once one zones into Neriak the lag becomes extreme. Some ppl may not have this problem; however, I would guess that the majority of players such as myself do. In general lag has increased in intensity in eq2 since it's creation. When I first began playing the game I had little to no problems with lag but through the years the lag has intensifed to a major problem. I ask in open chat (ooc) was anyone else experiencing lag and all but 2 out of 20 or more people expressed extreme lag issues within the city of Neriak.

Neriak is beautiful but it is hard to enjoy the grapics when one cannot move or is plunged into walls when the lag releases your toon, worse is when one is plunged into a cavern and dies due to lag. Inside the city I found it so laggy that I camped. I believe alot of the lag in the city of neriak is due to all of the light animations. Everything has a blue flame aura there including the mounts the guards ride even some of the eyes of the npcs.

Loading into the different zones in all of Neriak is extremly long, especially in comparrison to the load time in other areas outside of this new zone. Maybe part of this problem is due to the expanision in the size of the zones; however, zoning has become a time consuming event.

There are also buggy issues with Neriak, such as: 1. the journel help window disappears everytime I open my quest journel, get a new quest, or turn in a quest. 2. the bag in the first slot when opened does not show any of the items within it, the items are invisible. 3. bugged weight issue, my character was over burdened and slowed to a snail speed carrying only bags and a couple of spells books within them. I removed all of the spell books and was still over burdened. The bags are tailor made and have weight reduction on them so even if I were carrying more than books this still should not have been a problem. 4. I keep crashing to character select when zoining.

Maps: Where are the soe created maps for the out post and the city of Neriak? In the past no dungeons ever had maps (runny eye, black burrow etc.) but the citys always did, such as Kelthin etc. The lack of maps makes travel confusing and time consuming. I can only imagine the frustration a new customer would have loading into that area. The newbie island even has soe ingame maps, so I was really surprised to see that no soe map was available for a new city.

I'd imagine it has a lot to do with so many people being in the zone. Once it becomes old hat, it'll run just fine. This is another argument against getting more subscribers. EQ2 would halt to a stop with high populations.

I had horrible lag issues yesterday in Neriak, & there was 23 people :/ I died 4 times due to lagging & then falling into chasms while exploring. It did seem a bit better later (w/ over 75 peeps), but I only was in the city a minute or so, not going thru the entire thing. Would EQ2 halt w/ high populations tho, considering they have the additional instances (I guess they're called) of zones, or does that not include city zones. Last night I zoned into Darklight 3...

Are you asking about lag (slow or delayed communication between the server and your computer) or slow frame rates? It sounds like you're talking about slow frame rates. The only way to fix that is to turn some of your graphics down. There are guides for that in the tech forums. There are maps for the two new zones. The default interface has them and the eq2map UI mod has them if you run the updater. Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLere Vaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere

No I'm talking about lag... pure lag. When I first started playing eq years ago lag was not a problem at all; however, over the past year and especially in the recent months lag has increased greatly. Lag has increased not just in neriak but in other zones as well, such as freeport and qeynos etc.

The others players posting here are having similar problems with lag, so there is a problem here that concerns more than just computers. The reason I posted was in hopes that if eq can do something to lessen the lag it would improve the quality of game play. When loading in between zones the only place I'm having lenghty load times are in the city of Neriak and darklight. The other zones all load quickly.

Thanks, I updated my online map program and solved that problem.

Braidfreak wrote:
Huge memory leaks.
I assume this is why I end up rebooting every couple hours. As far as lag in Neriak and for that matter Darklight... Most of the time its communication lag not really frame rate lag. Though I'm hopeful eventually it will calm itself down (though Kelethin is still bad at times).

I'm glad that I'm not the only person who had these issues. Thanks for the post! /bump

i have been getting huge lag lately as well (before Neriak) and sometimes the lag dissapears for awhile so Meh i figured was my internet connection
I can't say I have TOO much lag in Neriak. That isn't to say I have none, but it certainly isn't game stopping. I am also not experiencing any of these bugs either, though I have had some issues with my quest journal (showing quests I had already done and not allowing me to view any of the current ones), but a simple /camp toon fixes that.

I know what is causing my (video) lag anyway - the fire. It's everywhere in Neriak - the horses, the mean dogs walking around, torches, etc. I have the same problems when I get to the area of NFP where the Academy sits. If I sit & turn around 360 degrees a couple of times, I'll be good, but if there's fire in the next area, oop here we go again. *edit* yes, I can turn the particle effects down, but I came about this realisation over the last few days so

I'm running on a computer a year and a half old, my wife's computer is two years old. We are sharing a DSL connection and neither of us have any lag at all in Neriak. The only time I've experienced significant lag there is when I run both of my accounts on the same machine at the same time (and even that goes away when I set my graphics to Extreme Performance).

No problems in Neriak either. I don't think it is "lag" I think it's more likely a low framerate due to too many player characters or too many particle effects. There are lots of "fire" particle effects in the zone...and a lot of PC's running about. You probably just need to adjust your settings until the zone calms down.

I find Neriak to be laggy atm for a number of reasons. One of which is the massive number of lights and flames ect they had to put in to make it the beautiful place it is. (I love neriak and its blue and <3<3<3)But also because of the massive number of ppl who go in and out. And as for the map thing... I have a map of Neriak and I can't figure out why I do and most others don't... I don't have eq2 maps or any of that nonsense. I havn't had any bug issues either.

All I have to say is <3 Neriak.

I have noticed frame rates also being affected. I recently upgraded from a 7800GT to a 7950GS in hopes it would alleviate this issue as I don't wish to buy another pc for at least a year (waiting for the hardware to catch up with Vista). Already having 2gigs of ram, raid0, and 3ghz amd, this was about the only area I could see to upgrade without going to a new box.

Anyhow, what I think would be cool is for them to redo the graphics engine for RoK to support Directx10. They made a lot of improvements in DX10 and it would extend the lifespan of EQ2 by many years. They did something similar to this with EQ1 and Shadows of Luclin. The good thing, I don't think it would be as extreme of a change as SoL was then. With SoL they had to redo all the characters. This would simply be a boost in performance and allow them to utilize the new features in DX10 on new models, zones, etc...

(( i get a bit of graphical lag, but my computer sUCKS! LOL thats why The issue is with the amount geometry, particles and npc entities in the cache at any given time, This is always a problem with a big zone like a City. Its expected. Get a better computer, or live with it Qeynos Harbor is the epitomy of bad framerates, its just the way it was designed does not make it an easy zone to Section off with portals or zone-divisions. (i mean in level-design terms). When the design for a zone is approved, it can only be optimised so much until you have to stop and rethink the layout, which often times cant be done if the production team has already approved it. I like Neriak, lag and all. Im faithful to the game even if i got crap framerates all the time, id sooner spend tons of cash on a new computer than give up the game Im hooked! (btw im not rich or anything but id still save up for months to afford a new puter
