after buying the game, it has been having random shutdowns, the pop that comes up reads: Fatal Error Everquest II has detected an unrecoverable error and must shutdown. <verify>D:liveEQ2frameworkcoredevicessrcdirectX9renderdevi ce.cpp(1968): Direct X error. (E_OUTOFMEMORY) can someone please help?

Sure. Have you updated your Direct X drivers? The error is one with Direct X - so I would start by downloading the latest drivers and installing them, then restart computer, then retry to start EQ. Hope that solves it for you.

Tokay ill check that. do all the patches get downloaded in the launcher or do i have to download them some where? could that be the problem?

EXACT same error I am getting, as I posted in another post. I do have the latest version of directx, and haven't changed any of my settings or anything lately for anything different to be happening. Also I would like to note this has been happening since LU#35. Hopefully it can be pinpointed and solved...

I have 9, and the latest is 10, but the recommended one for the game is 9.

<p>You don't need DX10. Barely anything even supports DX10 yet anyway.</p><p>You could, however, need a more recent version of DX9. There's different versions of it, and I'm not sure which one EQ2 requires. 9.0c, for example, is what some games require. However, since somebody else has said that they have the problem even with an updated DX9, I don't think that's where the issue is.</p>

<p>Just a guess here since I am not a techie, but</p><p> "...directX9renderdevice.cpp(196<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />: Direct X error. (E_OUTOFMEMORY)"</p><p>sounds like you are don't have enough memory available to render all the graphics you are trying to render.</p><p>What kind of memory card and how much RAM do you have? Do you meet the minimum requirements? I know LotRO has been having similar problems with a lot of their subscribers because of the huge memory crunch LotRO requires, so if you are close to the minimum on graphics and RAM, it may be too much for your system when it is trying to render a lot of things at once. You might need to upgrade your hardware or maybe tweak the graphics down so that it does not render as much at once. Any techie out there know if this sounds right?</p>

I have plenty of ram and plenty of memory. I shut everything else down before I play. I have never had any problem running EQ2 since launch, and now mysteriously since LU#35 I am getting this error message. I read somewhere else on the boards that supposedly people are getting this error ONLY in Darklight Woods and Neriak. I haven't played anywhere since then to test that out, but will today. By the way, it is the latest version of Directx 9 that I have, not 10. At any rate, I am hearing people are only having trouble in the new zones, including me.

I am having the same problem and it only happens in Neriak and Darklight woods for me too. My fps takes a nose dive in those 2 zones while being fine in the other zones I have been to.

Do you have any 3rd party "Codec Packs" installed on your system by chance? If so remove them, and if you need a certain codec for video then download that codec and only that codec.
