I decided to buy a new pc because I was tired of playing on Extreme Performance. I was shocked when I loaded up EQ2 on it and discovered I still get bad lag when I play on anything other than extreme performance. Other games run great on my system. I can play HL2 with settings maxed and it runs great. My 3dMark score was 8800 which is pretty good. I have searched the web and this forum and found nothing that has helped. I ran the AMD dual-core optimization and that made no difference. I turned off Vsync and that made no difference. Frequently my FPS will drop in the single digits on Balanced. I have friends with lower system specs than can play on higher settings than me. I formated my hard drive and started from scratch. I am running the latest nVidia drivers. I have the latest version of DirectX. Windows is complety up to date. I ran a bandwidth test and my score was very good. I thought that may be the problem but I am not sure. I ran the tracert's suggested and there were no problems with that, all respones times were great. Here is the requested information for posts on this forum. Any help would be appreciated.

I can provide the entire DxDiag info if required....here is most of it. I have 2 8800 GTS video cards with 320MB of RAM running in a SLI config.

------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 5/22/2007, 21:14:41 Machine name: xxxxxx Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: Phoenix - Your cpu seems weak for the system. My X2 4600 got problems to catch up with dual 7900gtx cards. Dual 8800gts 320mb arent uber either. One 8800gtx smokes em and are about same price.

Have you installed the AMD driver patch for X2 processors? The symptoms you indicate can be caused by the lack of the updated optomizer X2 driver. There is also a companion patch for XP over at microsoft.

You might also try

1. backdating your video driver to the recommended one shown at the knowledge base here

2. downgrading your memory to 2GB, the amoutn of memory you are running can actually cause issues on a 32 bit OS and some motherboards will slow down the memoty access speeds automaticly with +2GB

3. check the MB manufacturer to see if there are any updated drivers or bios files for your system

Run a AMD 3800+ with 2GB of memory at balanced mode with no issues outside of the slow down in QH that has recently came back

Turn your spell effects to 0 and crank up the other settings. Do a search for 8800 and youll find many others have the same stuttering and lag issues and it seems to be related to spell effects.

I never said my machine was uber. I just said it was better than my old one and it should be performing better than it is. I had 2GB of RAM to begin with and still had the same performance that I do with 3GB. I did run the AMD duel-core optimizer with no effect. I also ran the Windows update that was suggested. I even OC'ed my proc to 2.3GHz from 2.2 and saw no difference.

Looks like I should have just gone with 7900's instead of 8800's. Live and learn I guess. What is the exact name of the Spell Effect setting? I'm looking for it but I am not seeing it. Yes I'm sure its right in front of my face and I am blind. I found some stuff under particle effects but not sure which one I want to tweak. I assume setting this to zero will mean I won't see any spell effects? Seems rather lame.
