The joys of roleplaying being childish

<p>So here is a thought.</p><p>You've all seen it, the "noobs" in the chat channels in game....  those who frequently use the words 'noob', 'pwn', 'your mom', and 'lolz'</p><p>Numerous times I've seen these people ridiculed for being annoying and childish. But me? I sit back, enjoy the fireworks, and often join in on the madness.</p><p>Yes, you will see me often engage in a conversation like this:</p><p>playerx: WC group LFM 15-20</p><p>playery: DUDE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MOM 15-20 YEARS OLD? SICKO</p><p>playerx: omg shuttup man grow up</p><p>playerz: lolz i think he has a  thing for your mom</p><p>playery: YOU ARE ALL NOOBZ AND I PWN U</p><p>me: shut yer yapper i will pwn you in the [Removed for Content] and you'll like it</p><p>playery: O.o</p><p>Yea. stuff like that. Then I myself get called out as being a 'child'.</p><p>I am 25 years old. I work for a large corporation. Most of my life is spent dealing with real issues, difficult issues, in a serious manner.</p><p>If I am playing a GAME in which the sole purpose is to HAVE FUN, I'm gonna let go! I'm NOT gonna be serious, and YES I do enjoy ROLEPLAYING like a childish person from time to time. WHY? Cause it's fun. It doesnt hurt anybody.</p><p>If you can roleplay as though you were a teenage kerra kitten abandoned at birth and raised by gnolls in the pits of the temple of sol ro then heck, i can roleplay like an immature child.</p><p>So there! HA. anybody with me?</p><p>ow3ned.</p>

I too am a corporate professional who has to work with computers all day so to actually get to use them for fun in the evening is like...WOOHOO!</p><p> Sometimes you just feel sorry for the iliterate, sometimes you just have to thrash them. <p>I say things about other peoples' moms in-game all the time, and it never gets old.  And the perverse sexual humor...hard to beat that.  Just wish that I could get away with it at my job.  One time when i asked "how can you anyone sit through Musicals?  They're so boring."  And I got the response from our secretary, "We're more refined than you are.  It's an acquired taste."  I wanted soooooo bad to say "You're mom's an acquired taste!!!"</p><p>I work as a software developer.  When I come home, the last things I wanna do, are to be all serious and "mature" and "professional".  Games are supposed to be FUN...enough said.</p><p>And having ppl put me on "ignore" doesn't really seem to make me have any less fun jokin around, so they can go ahead.</p>

lol... I get into arguments myself sometimes.... I'm argumentative and instigational (made that word up) and so like to get involved and even start stuff sometimes... haha... one time I started telling everyone in 10-19 that SOE was going to give all Dark Elves free plat for Halloween. I even said if you deleted all your characters and madem all dark elves you'd get plat for each one...Some people were actually buying it, while some where like...You don't believe this guy do you?,and the other half was just laughing along with me... fun stuff....

While I think you are perfectly capable and within in your "rights" to behave as you want in out of character type chat, to characterise it as "roleplaying" is inaccurate and annoying to anyone who really does roleplay in the game. Roleplaying is taking on the role of your character (ya know, that "toon" you play) and has zero to do with how you behave in "out of character" conversations rooted in 20th century earth or of you being a player a video game having fun or otherwise (I think we're all aiming to have fun in the game in one way or another).  The example posted by the OP was showing a childish behaviour in an OOC chat but wasn't roleplaying in the game context.

What the OP (and a few others) are talking about is not roleplaying in EQ2. I would actually love to see these guys go roleplay though. The key is, they'd have to go to some game where it would actually be roleplaying. Is that what the Sims are all about these days?

<p>For those who dont understand roleplaying here is a definition from Webster's (the dictionary in fact). I highlighted the pertinent parts to make it easier to understand and apply to this situation.</p><p>1.<span style="color: #ff3300"><b>to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), esp. in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction.</b></span></p><p>Now that we all have a definition and subsequent understanding (for those that can read anyway) of roleplaying, how can you say the OP is not roleplaying? The OP stated he/she is an intelligent, professional person by day so in the virtual world of EQ2 (yes, we all know some of you actually live there 14+ hours per day but it really is a make believe world and if I ever see you doing that casting dance at the mall I will die laughing I swear) he/she is acting in a way she normally wouldnt but in a way others do and are acting. This allows her to roleplay in a persona under the guise of "MyToon" to see what that social experience is like.</p><p>The scenario provided fits perfectly with the definition. Roleplay on Bluu! </p><p>...and for the record, how are my kids doing <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>
