Hey all..

What does "Booyah" mean"? I have seen several people say this durring group quests and I am curious if it is just a sound or it has real meaning...

I did a search on wikpedia but I am sure that the players did not mean it the way it appears on wikpedia, which is defined as a food that is prepared as a stew but on a large scale... The Booyah home page says it is a fishing lure, and I found another site that refers to picking stocks that uses the word but again I am pretty sure that this is not how it was being used in EQ2. Is it an EQ2 specific expression? If so what does it mean?

Thanks in advance

Kat

Roughly translated, if you're the only one that hears the blast... then you won, since you're not the one taking the blast...

(ie. Booyah muthaxxxxxx!)

Hooyah (Huwa'h) US Army Grunt of victory,

Hoo-Rah(Ooh-raw)- US Marine/Navy Grunt of victory

Thank you all for your replies and for letting me know what it means.

It wasn't really obvious what the intended message was and your revelations certainly frame it nicely. The shotgun reference is a bit disturbing...

Mister Redrust, I don't really get your reaction - it sounds like you are of the opinion that I should have known what it meant or maybe that you are not supposed to look up words you don't know the meaning of? I am not sure what exactly you are implying with your sarcasm, it is a bit ambigious. It is not like there was any connection to what they said and what we were doing that would lead to serendipity - not knowing for sure, I asked. Sorry that offended you.

If they had said Ziggy Zig-Ah I would have understood what they meant, or Yay, or Go Me, or whatever. Anyway I obviously upset you by asking - sorry, my bad.

Kat

Good reference for this word: Look at the animated TV show Teen Titans. One of the main cheracters uses it as a catch phrase of sorts. I for one had thought this word died out as these words do. Gone the way of tubular or radical dude. But guess i was wrong

There's a Saturday Night Live skit with a lot of "Booyah" in it. I thought that was what people were always talking about. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/98/98o...rtscenter.phtml You kind of have to see it though.. It may not be funny just reading it.

All kinds of different meanings I suppose, but mostly celebratory in nature. Many people, including myself, were probably suprised that you didn't know it. At first I thought you were trying to create a fun post. I do love that you didn't know and actually researched it. The definiton you found was also humourous. I could almost see you trying to make sense of the definition you found with why people would say that.

Oh! It was also used by an ESPN Sportscenter anchor when describing "cool" plays during sports highlights.

I'm still tryin' to get used to all those shows where everyone tries to talk over the others but at least they sound like they're real persons instead of "network news anchors". Boo-Yah!
