View Full Version : PLEASE link the arenas already!

So I am at a loss when it comes to why the city Arenas are not linked together already. By 'linked', i mean, for example, players who enter the arena in Freeport could fight with players who enter the arena in Qeynos.

The arenas are actually really well thought out, fun, and a very exciting experience... but they go un-used simply because there are no matches created (because the arena is hard to access and is city specific).

Why let this wonderful aspect of the game go to waste? I was quite disappointed this last weekend, when, during peak hours on Antonia Bayle server (the HIGHEST population server), I went to join an arena match but found NOTHING open. That's just sad.

I say, firstly, link the arenas. Secondly, make the arenas more easily accessible (i.e. make it an option to go to at the mariner's bell)

Does anyone know if plans are in place to make this happen? If not, there should be. I hope Grim sees this.

The arena's are linked. its just that no one chooses to use them. I personally love the arena and make matches in it as much as possible but hey... not everyone strives to run out of a room and get slammed with a decap. personally, I get a kick out of i t . at any rate.. I think the SOE should host arena tournaments.. I play on oasis server my guild tried to host such an event with a Platinum prize and VERY few teams entered.. it was pretty depressing but hey! you never. SOE may actually put some use to the arena.

My guild and I have tried to play arena several times but have never been able to make the level scaling work. We enter arena level in options but toon levels don't scale. Has this been fixed? If so how does it work?

Arena's should be linked cross server imo, like you can fight with people from other servers. It would probably require a lot of programming though, and there's so few people that every use arenas, I doubt it would ever get to the top of their priorities list.

Taunts for one.

I do not recall where I read this - I am pretty sure that it was on the old boards - but I read that the Arena was to be either reworked (ie a new system and rewards and new pets) or would be phased out of the game.

I would like to believe that the former rather than the later is the way SOE plans to handle the Arenas, because they are a total blast. On Bazaar there is a significant number of players and more than just a few guilds that use the Arenas regularly. In fact we have regular matches on weekends and sometimes in mid-week, tho I should add that these are *always* using pets, not our toons.

One reason that most people do not use the arenas may be because they do not know about them. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to tell people about them when arena play came up in convo and they asked what it was...

I would love it if they linked the arenas so that there could be server to server battles and tourneys - SOE missed a good thing when they failed to expand arena play in that direction. Could you imagine what it would be like if they added a ladder system and status tracking on EQ2Players??? It would become instantly popular overnight because it would allow the people who would like to play PvP but who do not because of the problems associated with getting into the PvP system (it is rather hard to level a new PvP toon when you are autmatically a target to the already existing crowd).

Come on SOE, make the Arenas Valid!

Kat

It reminds me of unreal tournament and just seems out of place in this game. That's just me. I'd rather see something that would allow guilds to be KoS to eacher. That would be cool.

I think no one goes because no ones there and theres really not anything there worth while to be there. It gets boring pretty quick.

Bluu wrote:
GOD! Why don't people go to them?
Please, you people who don't go, tell us in this thread WHY is it you don't go to the arena.

1. There's never anybody else in there. Playing CTF by yourself gets old pretty fast. 2. There's no option to disable the arena potions. It makes it incredibly stupid when anybody can just run about 20 feet away and get full hp and mp. 3. They aren't cross server. 4. The arena maps are very bland and boring. If I remember correctly there's a whopping two different actual arenas, just rehashed a bunch of times with walls in different places. Honestly I don't even care for PvP, but I'd kill for anything to help pass the time between raids. =

Interesting the bazaar was mentioned as I play that server. I check the arena's 1-2 times a week usually to see if anyone is using them (at least the one in Qeynos Harbor and the one in Maj'Dul) and they are always empty.

So besides the reason I dont/cant use them -

Player scaling doesnt work - you enter level 20 for toon vs toon and you get the message that states higher level toons will be scaled down to this level. It doesnt work. We created an arena the other night (level 20 was teh restriction) because there were a couple of toons in the 20-29 chat that wanted to try it. I went to enter with a 62 toon and it said I was, oddly enough, "too low level". So unless I am misunderstanding, its not only not working, its not giving the right error message either.

The games to be played are not really explained.
I would like to strongly endorse the ideas and suggestions in this thread. Although not everyone likes them, the arena can be really fun. There are lots of people who would like to go there, but don't, because others aren't going there. If the arenas could all be linked together, including cross server, it would be a real blast. With that many people available there would always be someone there so those who like the arena could just go without having to worry. Tracking on station players would be great too. I would especially love official SOE hosted tournaments, with prizes... (not too over the top of course)

Heck even the idea about letting guilds voluntarily agree to be KOS to each other sounds fine.

Most of these suggestions would not require too many changes or lots of work. Lets do some things to liven things up. =D

I would love to have even the smaller of the mentions in a LU, just something worked on, not just left there to die. There are thousand of great ideas out there to improve the arenas. I would like to know whats the idea behind not improving arena. Would it kill pvp servers?

Ever think the reason it's not widely used is cause not everyone knows about them? I find myself in SS nearly every night /dueling people cause it's fun. I've never been in any arena and the main reason for that is I don't know how to get into one. Sure I remember when DoF came out and SOE announced them but with DoF I spent time checking out the new zones and completely forgot about arena's till this thread. Maybe SOE just needs to inform people of it. DoF release was a long time ago. BTW how do I get into the arena's?

Click on an arena door (one in MajDul , up the stairs across the bridge and around the corner from the SS zone in on the main terrace by the sultants palace and another in Qeynos Harbor, to the right of the bank if you are looking at the banks front door) and you can either create a new arena or join one that has already been created. I too, wish there was a much needed "how to guide" for them.

Im bored of playing CTF alone as well! I support cross-server arenas and nice rewards (not so nice that they will be required by anyone)

Well, I know you can earn titles for the arena up to Gladiator I think. Would be nice if, based on the tier of the arena, you could win, say a coin purse(scales to tier) and a trophy with rent status reduction for your house. Higher tier the combat, better the trophy etc.

Of course, it would require "anti-cheating" code to ensure that 2 players dont show up and one just falls on their sword to allow you to make coin and trophies.

Would also be interesting to do a PVE arena option where you could play arena NPC's the the absence of another player that would be scaled to white (even) with you. Then they could offer coin and trophy, no problem.

I have been playing the game for over a year and I don't think I have even found the entrance to the arena!! How sad is that! I like to do all the quests and nothing has ever pointed me towards an arena, guess that's why I missed it....

A all server linked arena is a great idea and I support it. however, its probably not even possible.
