Ok, so here I am, playing the game again after being absent for over 1.5 years. I started on day 1 (or 2 heh) with my Paladin and was fairly on top of things at the time. I also ran the old eq2crusaders website back in the day, if any of you ever stopped by there Anyhow - a lot has changed since I last played - which was right before KoS dropped. I have spent the last year or so in WoW so right now, I am still thinking in WoW terms. It will take a bit for me to "readjust". Right now, I am trying to figure out how to spec my AA points. I am currently only level 42, with like 7 or 8 AA points I main tanked our guilds first city writ mini-raids and I had a blast. Though, I did have trouble holding aggro if our dps didn't hold back a bit. So right now I am reading up on the forums here about some ideas for AA spending, and I have already found enough info to warrant a respec - as I had dumped all my current points into the Wis tree. As I said, I came from WoW, and have gotten used to the readily available information and the nice little talent calculator tools. Is there a EQ2 AA calculator of some sort on one of the fan sites? EQ2i seems to be lacking on some of our AA lines so I can't do a whole lot of research there. Do we have a Paladin/Crusader third party site at all? Sorry for the newbness, but like I said, a lot has changed and I am trying to get a handle on it all

Once you hit 52 and get sigil, your agro issues will come down some. Get that and amends (lvl 49) as high as you can (ad3 or m1 if you can find) and trust me, agro will NOT be a problem. You should have a mini verson of amends now, but I can't remember what it is called, put that on your biggest DPSer in your group for added agro.

As for AAs, look at what you want to do and pick a line that fits it best. There really isn't much that isn't useful in some manner (some argue agi is a waste, but others defend it). Me personally, I'm STA 4/4/8/8/2 INT 4/4/8/(8 in the future). For the EoF lines, Hero is very good for tanking and then your taste on the other line. Heal/Support are good choice, while I going Wrath for the extra DPS (I may swap out for healing/support though, not sure yet)

amends + warlock = happy warlock & happy pally. As for aa there is no "Right" aa spec for a paladin as you can see in our aa discussion any line you go down can be argued is useful to go down. such is the way of a crusader altho if yah MTing you prob def want hero line.

There are tons of different combo's, read some of the other threads.

For me, for best bang for your buck, I would start in the INT line and get maxed in spell crits, the go down the wrath line and get the other aoe. After that, it depends on how you want to spec your paly, for me, those two are a must have.

Another word of advice... focus less on getting levels, and more on getting aa's. I still have friends at 70 running around, either mentoring anything to do lower quests, or grinding to get aa XP. Getting AA xp at 70... sucks. My assassin just turned 70 two nights ago, and he has 96, the last 4 will come with a few remaining quests and raid kills.

I can concur on the getting AA stuff, I've only got 76 at 70... I'm fortunate in that I've not done alot of named in the EoF instances (only been in MMC and CoV to this point), but I've been in most KoS raid zones now, so no more AAs from that...

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I have indeed been reading the other threads I *think* I want to go in a tanking direction, but only being level 42 I have plenty of time to make the decision. I think I will try to focus on AA some tho, as most of my guild is in their 20's right now. thanks

Hello

Here are my thoughts...once you get high enough you will not have issues with agro control at all...sigil + amends + master 1 or adept3 taunts + STR line for the hate gain + AGI for the melee crit chance increase + INT for the spell damage crit increase + wraiths for the AOE damage increase (you will end up with 6 AOE's over time)===> one bad machine and can shell out some very nice dps and hold agro very well..now if you plan on doing a lot of tanking I would trade out the wraiths line with hero and get your self a really nice fabled sheild and BAM!!! you are a GOD...gota love the pally..we can just about do it all...dps, heal, rez,tank,ward..on and on and on

Take care

So I went ahead and respecced from Wis to Int. I have I think 3 points in the +spell crit achievment. However, from my casual glances at the combat log, I almost never see a spell crit. I thought I had seen them before, so I am assuming it does say "so and sos spell_01 crits for xxx damage". I see several melee crits, but I haven't really seen any spell crits. I would imagine most of our combat arts are spells? Or are there only certain ones that crit?

if you have damage numbers appearing over the mob.. Crits are the BIG numbers. nothing can wipe the grin off my face when I see 4k+ spell crits from Smite Evil something like the ACT parser will show up the Crits if you really have to analyse it.
