So I played EQ2 a few long time ago. Launch time. My guild was invited to the beta in the beginning of beta, and we played, but I never got that far due to the fact my computer blew chunks. I have a top of the line computer now-a-days because of income changes So I finally decided to play again. I played EQ1 for 3 years so I'm familiar with the world and the classes, but not to much with the class changes that the team implemented recently. So I am just looking for some players opinions on what a good class would be to play that is group friendly, but more specifically raid friendly. I usually play a healer class of some kind. My recent mmo classes have been Bard(EQ1 and FF11): I really liked buffing others through my songs and the general utility of the class...also I liked running fast Shaman(Vanguard): Phoenix as a pet...amazing, also I'm a sucker for spears Paladin(WoW): I loved the mana regen of the class and the utility they brought to the raid. I'm looking for a class that can either buff the group through attacks or spells. But a good dmg class as well. Any help with be very appreciated. Also I'm going Fae definitely if that helps also. Thanks for everyones help.

buffing and good dps sounds like you wanna be an illusionist.

good at soloing (because of mezzing and other cc-abilities), has some nice buffs for the group, can also debuff the magical resists of the mobs.

manaregen is also an issue to all the groups out there. if you go fay, you can try the evil faes and go coercer, but coercer is still a little more difficult than the illusionist.

i´m playing both (illu and coercer) and need to say, coercer is more manareg/utility for the groupo and less dmg than the illu. maybe i´m doing something wrong with the coercer, dunno 0)

Also consider Brigand - big damage, debuffs, utility all in one.

Hmm never considered Brigand. I've been looking at Fury, Paladins, and Mystics. Any input on these?

This is why people pick em. May not get into raid guild tho because of the over abundance of fury's. Mystic: Great buffs. Great wards. Crud dps. Can solo but its funner watching paint dry. Groups love em. Not played that much so in a higher demand bracket than fury. (personally would go defiler over mystic but either work). Paladin: Mostly self buff. Heals need work. Can dps if speced or can tank. Great tanks for group content. Can solo but is generally slow. Underused class in raid and is often not accepted into raiding guilds. (there is just no love for us paladins).

Its a matter of betraying or not. But if you wait this coming week (think tuesday) they are adding neriak with the "evil" fae the arasai. They can start out as an assassin and dont need a fae to betray.

ok I'm still having a very hard time picking a class. Does anyone know a site that list what the classes do overall, and how they are in raids. Or if anyone is kind anyone to list a description of all the classes and how they fair in raids I would be very appreciative. Thanks

Every class has it's own uniqueness to it and desirability in raids. If you want to be highly saught after by a raid guild, start an illusionist or coercer. There are several raid mobs that pretty much require one of them to complete raids. If you are looking at a healer for raiding, you should go with a Templar. Templar's have the best direct/instant healing, but don't do much DPS. Soloing as any healer is going to be a little slow (less so with a Fury) since they are not known for DPS. You were considering a Paladin, but keep in mind that they are not a healer. They do have heals, but they are not invited to groups for them, but tanking abilities. The "best" tanks for raids are going to be guarians or beserkers. If you are looking to start a tank that can put out some DPS, look at a bruiser or monk, though don't expect to MT many raids. DPS wise, wizzards are going to be the best for grouping, as they have huge nukes, but the DPS is not steady. If you are looking at DPS for raiding, summoners (Necro and Conj) have a lot to offer in regards to steady DPS and utility (mana items, rez, CoTH, pet pulling). Hope this helps some. Sorry, but I can't type a list of every class and how they are for raids since I have not played them all.
