I know this has been gone over many times, and there are threads out there about it, but I wouldn't be starting another thread if those were of any use to me. I've read the other threads, tried everything in them. Turned off the bloom and other effects in that section, put the special code into the eq ini file, adjusted the settings on my graphics card, restarted my computer more times than I can count on my hands and feet. Nothing is working at all. I still get the jagged lines around my characters and it's annoying the [Removed for Content] out of me. I have my updated drivers, I have updated everything, I have defragmented, and done all manner of things to my poor computer. It's not my graphics card as it's the same one I had six months ago, and suprisingly, I was able to get anti aliasing to work then, and I've changed nothing (except updated my drivers of course). I am totally in the dark now, please help

It sounds like you have left AA/AF to application controlled! Is that the case?

Are you talking about in my graphics card settings? Because I don't see anywhere that says to force the settings, but in my graphics card section i have NOT checked the 'use application settings' box, which means it should be using the settings I have set... ie the anti aliasing

We will tell you where to FORCE AA/AF to 4x/16x in the graphics driver once you tell us. You don't really give us much information!

Well first off I use the Catalyst Control Centre so I don't have the tabs like that, I don't have a smoothvision option, but I do have AA and AF set to their maxes, and I already have the application preferance boxes unchecked so I may move the sliding bars where ever I like. Still no joy, everything is jagged edit; To give a better view of my control centre here are some pics of relevent sections: == == ==

Could you copy/paste the contents of your EQ2.ini file and in what directory does that file reside in? Do you use a 3rd party UI, and if so, is there an ra_aa_blit 1 line statement placed in an .ini file specific to that 3rd party UI?

You have an ATI 9550? If so, could you visit www.guru3d.com and download the Catalyst 5.2 CC version and give that driver version a try. Report back with your findings.

The thing about that is I have the latest drivers and I don't want to go back to an incredibly old driver just for EQ2 when I don't have any problems with the driver I'm using now. If it's the my driver that isn't letting me use anti aliasing with EQ2 because EQ2 isn't upgrading their systems to be compatible with the most recent versions of my drivers, then I will have to go without anti aliasing in the game... so I am not going to roll back to 5.2 driver as nothing is wrong with the driver I'm using now with any other game or application I use, and nothing with EQ2 (save possibly the AA issue) Sad that, if that is the problem, SoE isn't doing anything about making their system compatible with updated drivers for video cards. I guess this is where this thread will end, unfortunatly with no resolution and no help from anyone official as to what the issue could be. Thank you for all your help in resolving this =/ Edit: spelling /sigh

Won't know until you try out the Catalyst 5.2 version. Mind you, current driver revisioning is for the sole purpose of addressing newer technology, which can cause backward compatibility issues. If it turns out to be a driver revisioning issue, then you may want to consider purchasing a newer video card in the $100 range, as your current video card solution is quite a few years behind the times and could quite possibly hinder game play for a number of games, especially as time goes by.

Good luck

well I know I'll have to buy a new vid card some time soon but really I don't have the ££ to get one at the moment. I probably shouldn't even be paying for EQ2 right now, but one has to have their escape from the real world heh. Well thanks for the help again.. will just have to endure a world of jagged edges and unappealing terrain

sorry to double post, but I just noticed something, in some posts they say put r_aa_blit 1 in your ini and in some they say ra_aa_blit 1 just to check, I tried it both ways (still didn't help my issue) but which way is the end all right way to put it in your ini?

Yes Catalyst AI is disabled, and I rolled back to 5.2, still a no go, so I put my drivers back to most recent. /sigh I just don't know what else I could do

If you have Cat AI disabled, the correct line added to your eq2.ini file, Application Control off and there's still no AA with several drivers then it might be time to start considering issues with your graphics card. I hate to say it but if all of the components are in place properly then there's just no other reason that AA wouldn't be working. If you have the ability try to replace your card with a temp card to see if it makes any difference.

BTW, the correct eq2.ini line is:

r_aa_blit 1

so double check to make sure that you don't have the extra r included as you posted earlier.

EDIT: Also make absolutely certain that when you are changing drivers that you use DriverCleaner in Safe Mode in order to elliminate any conflicts that might occur otherwise.

Lastly, please post a screenshot if you can.

Another thought: Make sure that the Bloom Effects are turned off via the ingame & driver options.

Could someone be so kind and do a step-by-step with rather fool-safe instructions?

I just can't grasp the whole process for some reason (Running a GeForce 8600 here btw...)

Would be very very glad for the help (Cookies offered!)

It might be worth it to note also that I get beautifuly smooth picture and very lovelly graphics and AA in Lineage 2, EQ1, and booted up my sisters guild wars account on here, and it was smooth and perfect. EQ2 is the only game of seven games I pulled up that gives me the problem with the anti aliasing and being jagged. Here are a few pics of what i mean from eq2: = = == I feel you can see it best on the 3rd one though with the hair. Now all this only started a few weeks ago, just out of the blue, I hadn't changed anything at all, I had only updated my driver the week before and nothing went wrong when I did that; everything was literally smooth and working fine one moment, woke up the next day and it was all jagged.
