I'm trying to reconcile what I've been reading in game and online about the Greenmist. I just read ingame about the greenmist helping liberate the froglok's by wiping out the ogres.

but... I thought it was the Iksar who were liberated by the Greenmist wiping out the Shissar? Is it the same greenmist?

The greenmist that whiped out the ogres was the ogres own doing. They invaded the temple of CT and opened a coffin they were told not to open. So the greenmist killed them then spread out and killed almost every ogre around. To my knowledge they had already killed the froglocks. They had taken over oggok (or was it grobb cant remember). As they were making their way down into the guk and annialating all the frogs. After killing the king and leaving the greenmist basically killed them. So it didnt really help the frogloks out as they were pretty much wipped out anyways. It was just the ogres own fault for ticking of CT. EDIT: [Removed for Content].... M I S T is filtered out???? woah

But I am not certain as to what frogloks you're referring to, but I believe you're talking about the greenmist that encircled the ogres during the battle of defiance, the siege on Qeynos.

The Shissar empire enslaved the Iksar. The Shissar displeased a god they were unfamiliar with, and the face of death opened its mouth and spewed forth a greenmist that killed them.

The greenmist appears again during the battle of defiance. The general of the ogre army was encircle by it, when it spoke to him, "Fear could have been your ally. Instead you entered its temple and enslaved its children. Your insolence shall be the death of your people. But your soul, defiler, will know Fear for all eternity!"

The resembalance between the greenmist being a cloud rolling in each time leads me to believe it was the same. The fact that the Iksar were Cazic-Thule's creation and that the words spoken during the battle of defiance proclaimed fear forever leads me to believe ethat the greenmist is Cazic-Thule's intervention with the mortals.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Sources: http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read.php...iks_beforegreen, http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read.php?link=destiny9, http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read.php...gods_cazicthule

edit: Changed all instances of green_mist to greenmist to avoid filters.

Yeah to put it simply, the Greenmist is a plague that instantly kills anything that Cazic Thule himself chooses at his own discretion.

Here are a few tidbits on the greenmist from the Archive The snake race known as Shissar slithered upon Kunark. The Iksar had yet to unite. Our people had yet to learn the arcane arts and the ways of fist and tail. Divided, the Iksar were enslaved by the snakes. In the centuries before the Green, the Iksar were slaves of the Shissar. They ruled from the ancient city of Chelsith which rested deep within the land now known as Overthere. From here would sprout much evil. The Iksar were tortured like frogs and suffered at the hands of the Shissar. The Iksar who showed genius were to help the snakes in their evil rites. These few were the seeds of rebellion. The Iksar began to plot a revolt, but a greater force would strike first. The Shissar were an arrogant race. The power bestowed by their god was not enough for them. They made pacts with other gods and demigods. They created rifts in time and space and used them to gather magic items held by the guardians of the planes. The Shissar's disloyalty and greed would bring the wrath of the gods upon them. No power could stop the force to come. A green cloud formed in the skies above Kunark and began to descend upon the land. From its center, the enraged visage of an unknown god began to form. It opened its giant maw and spoke in mysterious tongues. From this mouth of death rushed forth a green mist. The Shissar shaman began to cast spells in hopes of shielding their city and the necromancers began to assault the mist with great magics. All were futile. The mist rushed forth. The first snakes to be swallowed by the mist had their scales and flesh rot and fall from their bones. Glorious screams of suffering could be heard from within the mist. A river of flesh and blood flowed. The Iksar stood and gazed upon the carnage that was once the Shissar. With the Green Mist came the liberation of the Iksar. The season is now 0 A.G, After Green. Cazic's involvement in the Greenmist that freed the Iksar is unknown, being the facade of the god was unknown to both Iksar and Shissar. However, Cazic DID later send the Greenmist out and into the world again when the Ogres tried to storm into his temple. The Greenmist also saved the Iksar once again upon Kunark. Lore snippet reads: Now, beyond Kunark the world was deep in its Age of War. We had our plans but we keep them close to our scales for we know that there is no one that we can trust. Our scouts brought word over and again of the Rallosian Army and its victories. We readied for battle. They came from the FrontierMountains, where the sarnak lived. We sharpened our claws and our teeth. The new army of Rallos Zek was large, but we are iksar, and the strength of the ages flows through us. Though the battles raged on, we defended no one else, nor fought for any other. When we were under siege, no one came to our aid; we would go to no one else’s. Some say this is selfish of us. Is it selfish to treat others as they have treated you? Soon enough, the skies opened and what many had thought was a tale of old scales happened again: the Green Mist. The Rallosians were defeated as were the shissar so long ago. The others knew then that the iksar had told the truth about the death from above. Maybe he saw the power the greenmist held and wanted to have it for his own use? Or maybe Cazic ensured his anonimity when he sent forth the first greenmist. It's not known entirely, though it's safe to assume that both are not the same. Both articles in their entirety are open for reading at the Archive.

If I am correct in several different sources between EQ1 and EQ2 the greenmist is spoken of as an "entity" which is almost godlike. I'll see if I can dig it up but to me I think the greenmist is one entity that is sort of a demi-god under (barely?) Cazic's control.

Ordate

I believe one of the Lore devs on these forums made the statement that the Greenmist was it's own entity, but that it was summoned both times at the behest of the god of Fear, Cazic-Thule, the first time was when it was released upon the Shissar, killing nearly all. (some survived by teleporting one of their pyramids to Luclin, at which time they began trying to find a way that might keep the Greenmist at bay, resulting in the place known as the Grey, an area absent of air. Was kinda cool, an entire overland zone in which you needed water breathing, or else you'd "drown" Hehe))

The second time was when the ogres defiled the temple of Cazic-Thule, and so it was released, and killed most ogres, exceptions being those who had chased the frogloks into Guk, and those who had not joined the Rallosians, but were instead fighting for Lucan D'Lere.

I'm personally more inclined to believe the Tome of Destiny, since it's kind of omnipotent rather than a first person account (which are unreliable), but it's a judgement call. The two aren't really mutually exclusive, either. The Avatar could have summoned it and it just came out of the sarcophagus

Rallos must of had a nice long chat with Cazic after the second Greenmist incident.

The only "chat" I would expect Cazic-Thule to entertain from Rallos Zek would be an apology, and how likely do you think that was? Rallos Zek's babies got out of line and stepped on the wrong toes in their arrogance. Being the God of War means never having to say you're sorry. He wasn't sorry when he lead his forces into the Plane of Earth and took over the place during the first Rallosian War. he wasn't sorry that he almost destroyed Norrath in the Planes of Power. He's not sorry that he tried to take over the world with the 2nd Rallosian War. He's not sorry that he ****ed off Cazic Thule. He wont be sorry for the next war he makes either.

Exactly. I doubt either deity is shedding a tear over what happened. Rallos Zek might not even harbor a grudge, though I suspect Cazic-Thule probably would.

I apologize in advance for the slight detour.

Here is the Lore from the EQ1 Greenmist Weapon Quest:

Playing a Teir'Dal Shadow Knight, this was the most fun quest I ever did. Even though the faction work to be able to get Librarian Zimor to talk to me instead of killing me on sight really sucked. The exploration of Kunark that was required was so much fun.

Crusaders of Greenmist

Librarian Zimor is located in the Shadowknight's guild. You say, 'Hail, Librarian Zimor' Librarian Zimor says 'Hail, citizen, I hope that you are here to assist. We are gathering Crusaders to make an assault on the Libraries of Chardok. The slave creations have thrived in their sanctuary for too long. The tomes and texts they have stolen to fill their library belong us. They are even rumored to have a text on the Sacred Khukri of Rile, the Greenmist. If you see such a tome, you must bring it to me immediately. May Cazic-Thule guide you! Kill Loremaster Piza'Tak or Grand Loremaster Di`Korr in Chardok library and loot The History of the Greenmist. Upon handing this book to Librarian Zimor: Librarian Zimor looks disturbed as he examines the book. His hands tremble as he mouths the words on the ancient parchment pages. "This book may alter the reality you see before you, "the scholar says as he continues to read the tome. "The information that has been waiting in this book may have been brought to us by your hand, but your fate has obviously been chosen by our Lord. Our mystics have conveyed a new vision to us in this most recent season. Please take this note to Hierophant Oxyn, while I continue to translate this tome." the Librarian hands you a note and turns his attention back to the book. You receive Note to Heirophant Oxyn. Hand this note to Hierophant Oxyn, who can be found downstairs. Hierophant Oxyn takes the note and begins to howl into the air! "The visions are true! The new prophecy begins today, Crusader," the mystics growls with pleasure. He quickly turns and takes a bottle of murky liquid from one of his potion bags and hands it to you. "Take this and keep it safe. Our visions have told of this day. We have been able to learn of the metal of prophecy. This liquid will help us to locate it's true resting place! You receive a Bottle of Liquid Deklium. You say What is in this bottle of liquid? Heirophant Oxyn says "The bottle contains deklium in a liquid solution. The metal of prophecy has been determined to rest in a mass of living earth. Our scholars have written of a mass of ore that fell from the heavens. This ore was used in the creation of a blade of our father, Rile. We have been filled with visions of this blade. I have seen it in the hands of our Crusaders as they march towards the new age of Greenmist! Seek out the corrupted earth that guards the interlopers. We have an alchemist near there. He will be able to use the deklium to determine which golem contains the metal. Take care to go in force. I sense that there will be a battle. Alchemist Granika is at The Overthere Outpost outside of East wall. You say, Hail, Alchemist Granika Alchemist Granika says, 'If you were sent to me, show proof or be gone from my sight! You give Alchemist Granika the Bottle of Liquid Deklium. Alchemist Granika says "If Heirophant Oxyn has sent this with you, I can assume that our visions were corect. The new age is calling us from the heavens. Prepare for battle. I will take this solution to the Outlander's gates and use it to reveal the location of the metal of prophecy. Should I not return, you will only need to find the creature that glows without the use of a torch. Deklium glows when it gets near the smallest trace of tynnomium. Prepare for battle, Crusader... I am off". A Glowing Cliff Golem spawns just inside the side exit of the Outpost near your location. He and 5 other mobs walk straight out of the Outpost and the skeletal guards all take a post position. If you watch him for a moment, the golem will walk away from the other mobs and you can snag him easily by himself. He's a 1 group kill if you have 55+ warrior for main tank and a cleric to CHeal. Loot a Chunk of Tynnonium and take it back to Heirophant Oxyn: Heirophant Oxyn holds the ore in his hands and begins to chant. His eyes go white as he raises the chunk of ore above his head. He lowers his arms and shakes his head for a moment. His eyes return to their normal state as they focus on you. The shaman hands you the ore and says, 'Seek out the creator of Rile's blade. He is still on this plane. I have felt his torment. Take this note to Librarian Zimor. He learned a great deal from the tome and can instruct you further. Librarian Zimor says 'I am very glad you have returned. You receive a Note to Librarian Zimor. Upon giving this to Zimor: Librarian Zimor says 'I am very glad you have returned. Your discovery of the tynnonium is extraordinary! This Sarnak tome has been an incredible source of information. It appears that they have been studying the Greenmist for some time. I'm sure they sought it as nothing more than a trinket to be collected. Their shortsightedness will be their eventual undoing. I have compiled a book of notes that will aid you in your quest for the Greenmist. Please take care to keep this information of the grasp of our enemies.' You receive Notes from the Greenmist Tome, which reads as follows: "I made these notes from my interpretation of the Sarnak tome. Read them carefully. The weaponsmith who created the Greenmist still exists in some form. He has been tormented for a very long time and may not remember his art. If this is the case, there may still be some chance of recovering the design of the sacred blade. The key lies with the Lich-King's beloved. It is rumored the lich had a mirror created that allows his beloved Drusella to see her former self in its reflection. Perhaps this artifact can offer you some assistance in this quest. Several items will be needed to recreate the Greenmist Khukri. A special hammer was specifically created to fold and sculpt the weapon's blade. Both the Greenmist and this hammer were created on the same day. Only the year is know. The year was 1406. The tome mentions that the Sarnak were actively seeking the tool. The formula that will be needed to smelt the Tynnonium is written in the back of this book. Use this book when you find the forge needed to create the Khukri. You will need a design pattern, the block of Tynnonium, the hammer, and this tome to create the Greenmist blade. To finish the weapon, you will need the Lord of Pain's Khukri, this tome, the hammer, the Greenmist blade, and a Greenmist shard or fragment. We have not found any Greenmist fragments. All items must be forged in the hottest of all forges, the Forge of Dalnir. May the will of Cazik Thule guide you." Kill Weaponsmith Ko`zirr in Lake of Ill Omen. He's down the hall from the chancellor's room along with three imperial escorts. Loot the Hammer of 1406. Kill the Alchemist's Acolyte in Chardok lower caves and loot a Greenish Metal Shard. Shattered Blade of Rile is located in Karnor's Castle. It is sitting on top of a large wooden box adjacent to the jail area where the Drovlarg Warlord spawns. (location 12 on EQAtlas map). It looks like a dagger that's been dropped on the ground. This is Rile's Shattered Blade. Kill Drusella Sathir in Howling Stones and loot the Mirror of Self Loathing. Give the Mirror of Self Loathing to The Tormented Tradesman in the forge room of the Crypt of Dalnir, he spawns The Haggle Baron Dalnir. When you hand him the mirror the following text appears: The undead entity looks in the mirror and appears to be stunned by the memory of his former self. He drops the mirror, which causes it to crack slightly. You immediately grab it and place it back in your bag. The spirit looks at you and begins to transform. Ethereal strands of muscle, blood, and flesh come together and the Haggle Baron Dalnir appears. You receive Cracked Mirror. (NOTE: Haggle Baron Dalnir is iksar but is on beta neutral faction.) You say, Hail, Haggle Baron Dalnir Haggle Baron Dalnir says 'I have little time to speak. I can feel this facade weakening already. A Scaled Mystic came to me during my time of torment. He spoke to me. He said that a new time was hiding behind the darkness of the horizon. You seek Master Rile's Khukri. I can diagram it for you... Arrrgh! I feel the pull of torment upon me! Return to me with a piece of parchment, a quill, and Rile's Shattered Blade. Use your mirror again to bring me back and I will try to remember the design. Please be quick! Give Piece of Parchment, Quill and Rile's Shattered Blade to Haggle Baron Dalnir: Haggle Baron Dalnir stares at the broken blade for some time. After a few moments of studying, the apparition begins to draw and scribble on the parchment. He works with amazing speed as the memories from his past flood from his quill. The diagrams and runes that etch the surface of the parchment begin to glow. The legendary Haggle Baron rolls the parchment and hands it to you. Smiling, he bows deeply and quickly fades away.
This was a very nice 1 Handed Katana Graphic sword. I completed this quest in EQ1 with my SK Ogre on Prexus. What it doesnt say is the litereally thousands of kills and bone chip turn ins it took to gain ally faction with Cabilis. Which allowed the ability to talk to each NPC in the quest. Also in the process destroying the faction that was needed to allow you to complete the Class Epic weapon I had chose to follow this quest. I was not dissapointed. After weeks of killing skeletons in the bone yard And hundreds of elves for another faction it was well worth the reward. The Greenmist effect was devistating for its level and for sometime even after the Luclin release to norrath. The effect was also a Greenmist that would surround the victim and was deisease based to add to the aggro.

For those that didn't read further or click the link to the greenmist Effect it was cumulative First round would hit for (not sure been a while since I have done the exact math) 30max the next 60 max the next 120 max for up to 5 rounds of DMG I dont remeber seeing it hit for 8rnds. But the effect stuck on target for 8rnds for a nice mass of dmg that healed that amount of Dmg to your health. Which made for a great Soloing weapon(another weapon had similar but was much slower and was 2HCrushing Called Soul Leech).

We Few that have done the Greenmist line of questing take great pride in the fact that we achieved it. As had been said in a few posts in the old sites. I ALWAYS! Kept it in my bags as a reminder of how wonderful a time and quest this sword was to complete. I DO HOPE SOE ADDS THIS TO THE QUESTS IN ROK EXPANSION. I enjoyed this quest very much!
This is from chapter IX of the Tome of Destiny, The Battle of Defiance. The mist "speaks" and talks about Fear in the 3rd person so it does sort of seem to be an entity all its own.

The mist coalesced around Urduuk, leaving him no escape. He swung his sword at the green cloud, but there was nothing solid for him to hit. Defiler! it whispered to him. The time has come to pay for your crimes. "What... what are you?" Urduuk stammered. I am the voice of the one you betrayed. Your pride has brought your people to their downfall, just as it was in ancient days. But this time, retribution shall be mine. "I betrayed no one!" he shouted back, swinging his sword wildly. Liar! Fear could have been your ally. Instead you entered its temple and enslaved its children. Your insolence shall be the death of your people. But your soul, defiler, will know Fear for all eternity!

Didn't find that passage yet, but I did find this from 3-23-06.

Vhalen wrote:

Hey! There is nothing over level 150 in my books, yet.

The Avatar of Fear is not the Greenmist. The Greenmist is an arcane force all its own. Deities can speak through the Greenmist, a tactic used to strike intense fear upon those who are about to die in agony or those unfortunate enough to be caught in the middle of such horrors. Such a sight, no one wants to see. This tactic was used as far back as the Shissar Empire of Kunark. That was its second recorded instance.

Let's all breath a sigh of relief that the Greenmist is gone from Norrath...

Bolded by me. Whether it can "speak" on its own though is still debateable.

Wait, so if the Greenmist's use on the Shissar Empire was the second use, what was the first?

Oh. Maybe that rumor of Bertoxxulous designing the greenmist for Cazic Thule holds merit then.

I wonder if we'll ever get to know of the first time? Thats the type of thing in lore that I dislike... I just want to know of all these "secret" things. Like Lucan's past, the behemoths, Mayong origins, etc!
