i just came back to eq2 1 week ago and was very pleased to see that illusions don't break on zoning anymore, still i do have a problem with the changes of my character everytime i take out my warg or climb a wall, the only reason this was ever implemented is because there are illusions which do not have animations for riding/climbing and would therefore look really weird and could possibly lead to bugs. but many people only have illusions of playable races running and there is no reason for those illusions to always vanish and pop up again as they have animations for everything and the change in code can really not be much as you only have to check the illusion and not transform back if its one of the playable races. would be really nice if you'd consider changing this.

i agree <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> and maybe some humanish models would work 2 (ie skeletons) as that would be simple an would rock hehe

I would like to sign on to this. I have been bitterly disappointed with the way in which illusions are handled in EQ2, <i>especially for Illusionists!</i> Illusionists, as their name implies, should be (but are not) the Masters of Illusions. Right now, Illusions are so broken that they <i>cannot even be used for roleplaying purposes</i> and that is really sad. Can anyone offer me a satisfactory explanation for why Illusionists do not get a <i>spell</i> - not an item - for <i>every</i> player character race in the game? Even if Illusionists were offered only the "good" races, they should not have to resort to an item (petrified eyes) to cast illusions. How humiliating. Illusions already have no in-game use at all. If Illusions of PC races (not wierd Illusions like Droag, etc.) were not turned off when riding mounts, especially griffins, it would at least give them a roleplaying use (I could actually pretend to be another race, instead of having a parlor trick which is good only for laughs at parties.) I suggest the implementation of a series of quests which permit illusions to be maintained on mounts. Hopefully this would prevent having to re-do large amounts of code: the game could check "Has character A completed quest A?" If the answer is yes, the "remove illusions while on a mount" setting would be toggled to OFF, or more probably to a qualified off: "remove any non-player character illusions while on a mount" sort of thing. PLEASE fix this!

This does need looking at in my opinion. I can stand having to get bones to feed my eye for illusions, but I don't see why I should when they don't work on mounts. Thanks to the illusions, you can manage to get -- for example -- a black haired High Elf, yet they'll turn human again if you so much as touch a mount, or zone anywhere. However, I don't think it is going to get looked at, at the moment.
The whole illusion mechanic and philosophy are poorly designed and implemented. Problems: 1. Mounts are basically illusions. Anytime you are on a horse, carpet, griffin and so forth you are using an illusion. I'm surprised illusions don't drop when you get into water. 2. Illusions have no function in the game. Unlike EQ1 where an illusion (and some cases transformations) could alter faction as well grant abilities, illusions in EQ2 are just player visible skins. Basically the design team didn't like that Enchanters could alter their faction and by pass some interactions/content (which is why the Alliance spell line isn't around as well). I can't recall my other points. I started off on a rant about how much SOE hates enchanters/illusionists/coercers and lost my train of thought! hehe

i don't really see how mounts are illusions as they do work with illusions on (you always see your char for 1 sec on the mount with your illusion on and it looks just normal, then everything transforms), same with climbing, i have no clue why this wouldn't be doable.

/agree w/ what people have said here. Illusionists should not have to deal w/ the "eye" illusions either. If they want the aaxp part of the collection quests, go for it, but if they can effectively clone & control themselves, I'd think making a non-facton altering disguise for themselves or others wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

When you see your illusion form on a mount. I'm pretty sure they can do it but this may be one of those "its so deep in the mechanics of the engine" that it can't easily/economically, or other rationalization, be changed. If mounts/climbing/transportation aren't illusions then it makes no sense for them to work like they do now. Why would illusions suspend at all on a mount? Or climbing a wall?

the illusions are partly also models of playable races, so they are able to do whatever the other models can, it would be really weird (and bad) programming if the illusions were something else but the models others use as their first model. the only reason i see why the illusions are not showing is because there are multiple illusions like gnoll, tree, animals, etc which do not have animations for sitting, crouching or climbing.
