firstly, i havent found any threads about this, so if someone knows of one, please direct me to it.

Anyway, i just started a templar on a pvp server. I heard that they were pretty tough in pvp, if mastered and such, and as it is one of the least popular professions that i've seen so far, i decided to give it a try in that i like the challenge of trying to make a character people think are chumps in pvp shine. I also hate being a FOTM type of character, (could have easily rolled a scout or one of the other well known uber pvp classes)

Anyway, what i'm looking for is advice. I realize 15 is pretty low still, there are a lot more spells to learn, a lot more gear and aa points to get, but if there is any helpful pvp advice the seasoned pvp templars can give, even down to aa selections and battle tactics and such, i'd greatly appreciate it.

Honestly, I would spec for DPS on a PvP server. Templars heal very good, so I don't think you will need the extra heals, but you will need the DPS. At low lvl I think it would be tough, but at lvl 70 with all the tools, I bet a Templar is hard to take down. Pacify, Stun (later on), Debuffs (nice mit debuff), Heal procs alone will be nice. + to offensive skills/hp buff. Get a nice weapon, melee crit AA's, some Haste items if you can. I know Templars were saying they can't catch people when they run, but Sign of Weakness will slow them down a little anyway....maybe enough to get on them again. Lack of run buff, no root/snare, long cast times on heals is probably the biggest problems. Without AA's doing enough damage would be a problem too.

Well I used to be a pvp'd spec'd Templar and I could solo most classes rather easily. The few classes that gave me difficulty were Defilers, Necros, and well geared Sorcerers. The best KoS AA for pvp is: AGI 4-8-8 STA 4-4-8-8-2 Then probably STR 4-1 (gives you an interrupt) EoF wise I maxed out all my reactive cures (just the single target ones) Then maxed out my heal procs, sign of fratality, glory, benediction, blessings. and I think I then spent some to get the stun upgrades (I cannot remember) With this build you can will eat and scout alive, including brigands. How to fight with this against a scout, you will usually want to start with casting sign to disable their auto attack and then let them open up their attacks. However, they will not dispel most of your buffs as their auto attack will not be going so their poisons will not be proc'ing. Once your health drops to about 60% you will want to use your mez, which should last 20seconds. Cast your reactives and heal yourself. Switch to a 2-hander and start whacking the person. When your reactives are down, stun them heal and then your sign should be back up. Just rinse and repeat.

I have a 17 Temp on Venekor with a Slayer Title.

I am very satisfied with the early results.

I haven't had too many PvP skirmishes, but I can say that the limited offensive spells can do killer damage to most classes. 9 times out of 10, scouts will run once they realize they are low orange from just 3 spell hits. That and throw in the heavy armor and reactives, they have no chance most times.

Now about end game temps, I have no idea.

I pvp rather well solo on my 70 templar. With the Signet of Light from Darkness I can effectively heal myself and use only auto-attack with a damage proc weapon to take out my opponents fairly easily. It takes a while to wittle them down, but towards the end I have nearly full power and full health. If I want to I can start DPSing with constant Holy Strikes and Judging Smites, with the occasional DoT thrown in for good measure.

Would you go into some more detail?

I am interested in hearing what you have found works for you at that level -- an what may help are one progresses farther up the tiers.

I am a 70 templar on nagafen and i am fully healing specced for raids. My gear is mostly low end legendary with a few mastercrafted items still around. My resists are all around 3-4kish. I have only been 70 for a few days now, but these are my views so far on pvp: (this is a bit of a rant)

In solo pvp i cant do a thing. I can stun for 8+ seconds and daze also, but i ussually take this time to heal myself back up. My nukes really dont cut it at all (they are adept 3 and ussually hit for 800hp HAHA). My melee has a high crit chance (because of the AA i picked up along the way to crit heals) but honestly autoattack is not going to win you any fights because your going to be healing yourself the whole time. Between my reactives, heals and emergency heals i can ussually stay alive a while - but in doing so i must engage (heals) and therefore i cannot run away or zone. So - alas, the enemy DPSes and DPSes as i heal heal heal, and eventually power runs out and i die.

In group pvp I am a little more useful. If the enemy group is smart then they wont be phased by my plate armor and they will go for me first. If two or more melee classes are on me then ill be interrupted all day long because my cast times are long and my avoidance is low. If the enemy group tries to kill a clothie first, and i am the only healer, then the clothie WILL die - my casting is too slow and it will take more then a reactive to save em. If the enemy group is stuck on our main tank, then i am in business and i can keep him alive all day long (but they rarely stay on the tank, duh).

The thing is, enemy damage is big in pvp - a 500hpX5 reactive is a joke because scouts are going to be spamming 1k+ CA and mages are nuking for 2k+. It is required to either stack 2 or 3 reactives up, or do a ton of touch up direct heals -- both of which take more time then you have.

The "pros" to healing specced templar in pvp is divine recovery, sanctuary and spurn. All of which are real nice. Sanctuary makes coercers easy kills.

So honestly, healing specced templars arent wonderful in pvp - regardless of situation. To top it all off, we are slow moving. Good thing i enjoy pve :)

I went on Test this past weekend and Beta Buffed a Templar. I was pretty happy with the results. Most were Beta buffed with EoF gear, all adornments and potions available. I took the +slashing/piercing/crushing adorns (3 of them). Dmg shield adorn, and + wiz...prob needed better mana regen as it was close on some fights. (2 brig fights, warden) The AA lines I took were Str (Steadfast is nice) the extra CA with Skull Crack and a dmg proc. I went down the Int line for casting speed. For EoF I took Blessings and Smite line. I had a bad one-hander and would have done so much better with just the Blackscale Maul and melee crits. I would have had more dps and would prob go that route instead of Int. I did mostly solo fights. Templars are hard to beat. I know I am missing a few fights here, but these are the solo ones I remember. Scouts are everywhere on PvP and they aren't that hard to beat for a Templar. Brigand - 5 wins 2 losses One Brig was really good...one fight I messed up bad and it was over in like ten sec. Thugs can be tough, but Focused Benefaction when thugs comes out took me from red to green in one sec. Assassins - 2 wins Ranger should be easy too - though if they get the jump as they usually do, would be a little tougher) Troub - 1 win Warden - 1 loss (very close fight...just like all healer fights) Warlock - 1 win Shadow Knight - 2 losses The SK's were in the green with half mana left from their life and mana taps. I only fought two, but they are hard, we just don't have the dps and the long fights they win... we can't wait them out. Anyone know how to beat them? I was going to roll a warlock when Kunark comes out, but I really am thinking of rolling a Templar on Naggy now. There are so few, but they are tough to kill at higher lvl. Download Test and try it out, not sure how long the Beta buffers will be up, but it is fun!

I have a Templar alt on Nagafen, currently level 34 mostly mastered with a few ad3s. (My gear is poor, but am soon to make a full set of DFC crafted armour). I wouldnt say I solo well in PvP but I can hold my own in certain situations. I have taken the STA line for the Melee crits and heal crits (just waiting to find a nice high damage, long delay weapon) and then will take the INT like for spell crits and reduced casting times. I have solo'd assasins and other scouts who think I'm an easy kill...unfortunately, as is the way with PvP if I get the upper hand in a fight, more often than not they will run. And I cannot catch them. Keep the single reactive up at all times, get your melee debuff off and perhaps mark too, and auto attack them to death. Keep the STA line knockback in reserve, so if they do run you can bide some time to equip a clicky wand to finish them off while you chase them. I had an Inquisitor ask me for a 1v1 recently, but I really didnt have the stomach for and epic battle like that In a group situation we are pretty [Removed for Content] good. So long as I'm grouped with a good tank to keep the aggro off me, my reactive heals are pretty uber. Complemented with a nice Druid for some regens it's gonna be pretty hard to take the group down.

Question,... if you take the DPS route, you will more than not be getting gear such as str+ int+ like Debout. fighter gear would be suited to uppern the auto attack damage. But how much does that hindder your ability to be a good group healer. Ovbiously having two sets of gear would solve that prob. But for those who cant afford 2 sets of MC gear is specting for str bad for group cenarious???

Or what other solutions are there??

I have two Templars on Vox.. My main is a 54 and was the first EQ2 character I played. I was in the mid 30's with him before I learned to effectively play the toon. Gear is very very important. I personally like the intel line with raising spell damage and casting time better than the auto dps stuff. With the new AA changes I use constigation a lot now in pvp.

If playing a melee I normally just watch their power and keep myself healed with vitae or low power using heals letting my auto attacks and a smites do the damage throwing in a debuff here and there. When they run (and they will run) use a wand (these can be used while running). Its just about out lasting them and finding a way to get the kill.

Mages- They are a bit more tricky.. If you only use gear to boost your physical mit you are going to hate wizzies and warlocks!! You survive their nukes using larger heals then get on them with auto attack using your nukes as well... when you see your nukes doing no damage stop wasting power on them because they have their mana shield up. I normally back off at this time and focus on heals, when I see my auto attack hurting them again meaning their mana shield is gone go back to nukes... Be careful and don't let your health fall to low though because a good nuke from one of them can devistate you.. Necro is all about cureing their swarms.. and staying on the necro and not the pet.

I have never fought a coercer solo so can give no tips here other than have good resists!

Other healers.. Its a hard fight and all about power pool.. use auto attacks until they are around 50% then throw in the nukes. Watch using yaulp on them because you will be out of power way to fast for a healer to healer fight.

My other templar is locked at 17... Vox has a large population fo teen pvp so to find any fast fights thats where you have to be. I created a fury for this at first and just didn't like it...I guess I was just used to the templar.

In group pvp I love the templar!! We can handle the dps when they figure out the healer and focus on you..... Haveing another healer in group with you and its almost always a win.
