judging by that screen, I would say high-average to high (out of a scale from horrible to amazing) the screenshot is probably jpeg which is bringing down the quality a LOT

Squigglle wrote:
how do i turn anti aniliasing on?
It's kind of a hidden option. There are a lot of posts about it in the Tech forums like this one: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...;topic_id=40248 You may have to turn off the bloom lighting effect, depending on your graphics card. I'm not sure. Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLereVaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere

this depends on your monitor and EQ2's resolution. At certain resolutions, and with certain monitors you'll get some blur. try a different one or try windowed mode.

You are probably at AA x 16. Try going to a lower setting such as x4 or x8 for less blur.

yes they are, all i did was turn on clotheing animation and turned up the texture to max
Squigglle wrote:
as soon as i turn off aa it gets un foggy
If you are using nvidia, do not use any of the #xS options. That means 4xS, 8xS. These are different AA methods and cause the type of foggy and blurry look you are talking about. If that is not the problem I am not sure what it is then, I keep on my SLi rig, 4x at all times and it does not give me the same foggy look.

You don't need anti-aliasing on, it does it fairly well without it and it's really going to slow the game down. The 'muddy' flat look that you see in many screenshots is mostly from having gamma set too high or contrast set too low. People tend to set these to be able to see further at night which is understandable but gives that flat, washed out look. It's like photography, you want as much contrast as possible before the dark areas fill-in and things look too heavy and the gamma as low as possible. This will give a richer, denser look. If you have altered these settings and can't see well at night try raising torch intensiting and ambient light- that will give a wider circle of light around your character. If you have lighting rendering below max you'll get what looks like bad anti-aliasing around your character. Specular and the bloom effect with the settings above will get you towards the best look. If you are having issues with low frame rates turn off specular in shadows or turn off all shadows for a big boost in performance. The setting about triangular density will allow you to see buildings at a distance. The rendering option is the environment and high detail characters should allow you to see mobs in distance. If you have the above set right you can turn most things down for better performance. Remember that you can save named settings, so you could do something like this: Wilderness- Highish contrast, lowish gamma (for visual punch), high flora, shadows, torch intensity down or the ground might get too 'blown-out' in high-lights. Rendering right up and triangular density to ee more in the distance. Night- Contrast down a little or gamma up to see further. Carefull or you will get a dull, flat, look. Torch intensity and ambient light up so you get a real feeling of a circle of light around you and can see further. Cities- To get a better frame rate with lots of buildings and characters turn rendering distance down, flora down and the biggest thing- just turn shadows off. I hope that helps. Maybe I should post up some screenies and settings, would that help anyone?

The screens with AA turned on look so much better than without it. I've been running AA on above balanced settings for over 2 years now and can't stand the way the game looks without AA. As far as performance is concerned all of my test show about a 2-3 FPS difference between AA on and off. It's a small price to pay for such a visual improvement IMO.
