I seen in another thread someone said they had this problem, but no one posted any resolutions to it. I just bought EQII yesterday May 11th, and I had a bunch of problems with it, it would keep cancelling the download, but that is all fixed. There is something new is stopping from from playing. After the scanning and downloads, the PLAY button never appears. It says Update Complete under the xp bar, and the play button stays as Updating. I've tried launching the game through the Everquest2.exe in my Sony/Everquest2 directory, but after I enter my user info it always comes back as "servers busy try again later" or something along those lines. Any help? ........ please.......... I'd really like to play, or at least make a character...

That is an interesting problem. Have you tried: Rebooting? A full File scan? and is your firewall blocking anything?

Same problem here, but I have some information that might help figure out what the hell is going on.

I stopped playing EQ2 almost a year ago and decided to come back to check out how things changed so I reactivated my account. I recently moved and left my install discs over there so I downloaded the installer from SOE's website (I know this was also a work around suggested for this problem so in my case it doesn't work).

Whenever I log in, the autopatcher scans all my files, downloads eq2test.exe and says update complete but doesn't enable the play button and I can't use the drop down to select any of my 6 characters (all 6 are on Befallen).

I was a bit confused when I noticed that and I thought it might have been because I'm using my new computer (a fully equipped m1710 with Vista) so I decided to do additionnal tests. First I deactivated my Firewall/AV (Kaspersky), nothing changed. Second, I tried a full file scan and multiple reboots.

And this is where it gets REALLY confusing, I made a trial account (Play the Fae, I didn't have that expansion and I wanted to see what Kelethin looked like too) and I logged in (USING THE SAME INSTALLATION, nothing changed, only the account used to log in) and it worked on the first try... So that rules out connection problems and installation problems, it seems to be directly related to my account.

Help??

UPDATE : I decided to force the game to run as Administrator. To my surprise, the autopatcher found multiple files to update (took about 1.5 hours) and now it works.

today after the hotfix...8/23/07 i am unable to play on my main account. I can repeatedly update and file scan but this offers no solution. I have rebooted and rerun eq2 over and over again to no avail. The play button does not appear and the same thing as all the OPs is happening to me. I find it extremely rediculous that and update could do this, if indeed that is what caused the problem. One thing just before the update this morning i logged out /camp...and after it campped the screen just froze and there was an error message...i wish i wrote it down but i just figured it had something to do with me logging out/cpu lockup or something...im glad and dissapointed to see im not the only one having this problem. an actual solution or responce from a red would be great as i have exausted my solutions.

wow..ok guys im on even though i was getting the same error still...the instant the game is done updating the play/updating should flsh red for like .0000000001th of a second...well i kept making it update and about a second before the flash i took my fingers and tapped them in unison...like 1-2-3-4 in a row like a beating drum as fast as i could and i got a click and the game launched...no joke as rediculous as this sounds it really worked...a file scan box popped up for like a spit second then the game launched...im on right now so i dont know if ill have to do it again after i log off or if it updated finally but theres your solution for the time being...F'in rediculous

If you're running Vista, right click on the EQII icon and select "Run as Administrator"

If you are having problems with the updater, there are several possible causes for this and we would need to see more information to help in troubleshooting the cause. We will need the information from the post *** Read before posting *** to be help out. For everyone other than the original poster, please use a seperate thread to post this information into.

This issue occured for me and a few others I have tried to help, a few times. The most common solution was to uninstall &/or delete any custom UI related information, that you have changed either in the eq2.ini file, or any custom UI data.I know it is a pain, but for most of those that I have spoken to this has solved the problem. The eq2.ini file, and other ini files related to the game, are very very picky about what they will and will not accept. The game will not let you play after patching, simply showing either a greyed out "PLAY" button, or a greyed out "DOWNLOADING" button. Mistyping a single character, not adding a backslash or forward slash in the right spot, or deleting or moving a line on accident, can cause this issue. If you are having the OPs problem, try my solution, and hopefully it will work for you. The worst you would need to do is a full reinstall and not install any custom UIs, or keyboard settings, or any *.INI file changes.___I know for certian that this wont work for everyone, since everyones problem is different, but in many of my instances this has been the case.Heck, even a few days ago, I forgot to add a backslash to a line I was editing in my EQ2.ini file, and I had that error when I attempted to patch and play.

Thanks so much. I've been unable to play all day. I looked up this probably and deleting the EQ2.ini file worked. I wish I had tried looking for a solution earlier in the day.
