View Full Version : FX5200 Video Card

My old video card (ATI AIW (I think 9800) 128 died on wednesday. I took it to a tech because I didnt know why it wouldnt boot. He put in a FX5200 - 128 and i replaced one of my 512 memory to 1 gig.. so i have 1,512 memory now.

I was so excited to think the game would play well. I figured the video would be the same.. my graphcs were never too bad. I did lag in certain spots like QH. But it was liveable and i figured the extra 512 of memory would help.

I try and play the game and I feel like im playing drunk. Im hitting walls.. i cant jump over the bannister in the trade skill area. It feels like im not in control of my character.

I guess this is caused by the graphics card?

I dont have tons of money and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Maybe its settings or maybe the card just wont work. If i have to get another card.. hopefully not to expensive.. if anyone has a suggestion.

Thanks

Tom's Hardware does monthly comparisions of newer graphics cards. On the final page is a table comparing a great many cards, including older cards. Both the ATI 9800 and nVidia FX5200 are found there. Assuming the info is accurate, the FX5200 is quite a step down from what you had. Maybe you can have the tech upgrade the FX5200 and pay only the difference between it and whatever you settle on? Tom's Hardware May 2007 graphics card guide, final page After looking over the table, go to page one and read the entire article to get an idea of what's available in the various price ranges. Let's hope your motherboard accepts either PCIe or AGP graphics cards, as finding a decent quality PCI-slot card may be difficult. Good luck!
Thank you very much for your help. I had never heard of this page. I appreciate it.
I gave in and purchased an ATI Radeon X1950Pro 256MB. I hope this will be a good graphics for eq2.
