What's up with the word contested? It seems the world of video playing geeks high jacked a word and turned it into some type of computer slang.

How is it a mob is contested, and another mob is not? What is the definition of Contested in the EQ world?

Real world:

Contested- To compete or strive for; to call into question and take an active stand against dispute or challenge

A contested mob is one in an open zone, be it over land or a dungeon. Mobs in instances are not contested, because there is no competition to get them. Mobs like Pumpkin Headed Horseman, The Mutagenic Outcast and The Three Princes are contested, whereas Wuoshi (in his own instance) is not.

I am glad this was brought up. As a side question, what prevents a guild from forming two raids(or one raid + 1 group) and taking out contested mobs with 30 players? Say 6 on the side to help with adds and things? Is there a specific rule against this because it isn't like there is a timer to zone them out or is that how Avatars and Matron's and other contested are taken out generally? Maybe with encounter locks it wouldn't really help.

Theyve done pretty good at making adds be locked in the raid encounter the second they spawn, so theres not many ways to get around that kind of thing.
