I am running Windows Vista. I downloaded the game from the patcher and it comes to update complete but button that turns to PLAY stays as updating. It will not let me play. Any suggestions here would be appreciated.

vista is notoriously [Removed for Content] about security... it will actually put those downloaded files, not in the directory they are supposed to go into (program files), but into a temp folder that disapears when you reboot.

first, move/make a copy (copy is better imo.) of your EQ2 directory somwhere like my documents or somewhere where the folder is not protected by system security like that. then, change the icon for EQ2 on the desktop to point to the new directory by right clicking it and browse to the new folder in the appropriate spot in that popup window and choose the same .exe file that was chosen before (same name anyway), but this time in the copy directory. now right click the icon again, and choose properties, and in the security tab (i think its security tab, been a while since i tried vista), check the box that says run as administrator, and if that works, you are good, if it doesnt, try also setting the compatibility options for xp SP2 in the drop down on the same tab as the run as admin check box.

if none of that helps, you, i am stumped, short of disabling all the UAC controls (i.e. security) for that user account, which i do NOT recommend. the UAC helps prevent malware/spyware from installing itself on your computer without your permission. usually anyway. i am sure eventually the coders for malware/spyware will figure out a way around it too.

Right clicking on the EQ2 folder, going to the security tab and checking allow for all users on all the options will bypass the UAC.

good to know, but you may have to boot into safe mode under the admin profile to actually do that, i dont know.
