I'm always on the look out for some nice solo gear. For a wizzy good solo gear=ward/heal proc imho. I'm not a big raider so getting good solo gear via raids isn't really probable, so I was wandering if anyone else had any good suggestions as what gear a soloing wiz should aquire. I personnly think the staff of spectral fury is a must have. It procs very often and on long named fights it serves as source of power because the health can be converted to power. Putting AAs into magi's sheilding is also pretty useful. I'm speced str/agi, power in wiz tree to get manaburn/ power and with 7 points into magi's sheilding...working on the extra distance casting. So whats your solo gear?

Do you happen to have a picture of the staff's graphic? If it looks cool, on top of the stats, Then I'll almost certainly pick one up when I get to that level range.

Dont look over the +disurption/subjagation gear either not getting a resist on a spell can be key. As I raid I am fortunate to have over 1200 mit in dps gear and bump it to 1700 when i solo, however you can easily get a few hundred mit by doing the claymore series if you dont mind losing a little int, the belt adds 142 mit, ear rin adds like 100 and you can also get the light or dark chiten rings each adds good mit and resists. I also wear the wrist item from claymore 30 to all stats and 7 defense. Also if you want the claymore also has one of the highest mit cloth BPs in the game, but no ward .

Edit, forgot about the claymroe shoulder item real nice for named fights, 5 minute duration clicky which increases your max power by 5% has 30 int and +7 disruption, i think the reclick is either 30 minutes or 1 hour, but still awesome for named fights where power will be an issue.

That staff looks really nice. My only problem with it is it doesn't leave my offhand free for freehand sorcery and ward of sages. And actually, I think ward of sages is probably more beneficial than the heal proc on the staff. WoS, at level 5 (where I currently have it), wards 356 points of damage and regens half that per tick (so 178 per tick). Assuming you're never at max health during a big fight, that's like having a 178 heal every 6 seconds, or 1,780 heal/minute. The staff procs 1.8 times per minute with a heal of 445. So that's the equivalent of 801 heal/minute, making WoS more useful than the staff - just from a healing standpoint. And if you have higher ranks of WoS, it's an even bigger difference. Obviously if a wizard hasn't gone down the wis line like I have, and has no reason to not have their off-hand free, then this staff is great.

Ward of sages is 354 at rank 8, the advantage to having the heal proc is to help with your mana on long fights while soloing, it allows you to use vital conversion once everytime it procs, ot you will gain 700 power per minute if viatl conversions is at master 1, assumeing you are chain casting which you really shoudlnt be while soloing named. Personally I switched between weapons when I solo depending on the mob I am fighting between the staff of spetral fury and the wand from unrest. Your base of solo gear is fine, but your should change gear around depending on the named you are fighting. I persoanlly went down the wis line and use the staff on some fights, it really isnt hard to switch back to a 1h for a freehand ice nova, then back again.

Ooh. Hope that particular change goes live way before the release of RoK. I bought a staff this morning for 4p figuring I could just re-sell it for more (was the only one for sale) if i didn't use it. Maybe I'll hang on to it for a while.

And on Ward of Sages, yeah, it's 356 at rank 8, level 70 - I was looking at my freehand sorcery rank. Oh well.
