View Full Version : Multiple Problems on Two Different PCs

Hello,

I have several problems with Everquest 2 and so does a friend of mine.I cannot seem to get the extra voice overs or SOGA models to work. I have checked the squares in the launcher preferences to download the models and voices, but when I am in game I cannot turn the models on and cannot hear any extra NPC voices. My friend also has the SOGA model problem; she has the extra game content boxes checked and gets the extra voices, but not the models and cannot turn them on ingame options. I consider these to be annoying although minor problems in comparison to the ones I will mention next.

The following are errors which are gamebreaking for my friend and I: Falling through the world - this has probably happened to everyone, in every MMO at some point or another, but it seems to be happening to me more than should occur. I have fallen through the world in the Commonlands near that druid ring if i recall, and also on some small hills in Nektulos Forest, twice. I suppose I could avoid these areas but would like to know why this is happening. The most glaring problem that my friend and I share, and one that "breaks" the game for us is also found in Nektulos Forest. We need to get to the beach there for a quest, but when we traveled along the road to the "Hidden Beach Path" there is nothing at the end; it drops off into space - a vast void. If we step into this we again fall through the world and wind up at the start of the zone. We have seen mobs pop out of this and back in, and also players running out and In just fine. We're in two different countries, using two differently Specced PCs. My friend uses an Nvidia card, I believe a 6600GT and I use an ATI 9800XT.

I should also note that we played EQ2 several months ago before taking a break and these errors did not occur; I didn't fall through once anywhere at that time, and we both were able to access this beach in Nek Forest. I have the latest Directx and Ati drivers which I reinstalled cleanly. I have turned off firewalls and antiviruses; I have reinstalled EQ2; I have used the launcher's file scanning. I am using the "Direct2Drive" digital purchase copy of plain EQ2, which I am currently redownloading incase the previous attempt had corrupted files. My friend uses the Desert of Flames boxed version. It seems very odd that we'd both encounter this zone void bug with two differing machines, two different versions of EQ2, and two different methods of acquisition. Any help would be greatly appreciated in these matters.

The cache solution proved to be fruitless; anyone else have any ideas?

Blashyrkh wrote:
The cache solution proved to be fruitless; anyone else have any ideas?
Can fix sometimes, but alas. I am thinking for some reason, you both have corrupt files for these zones, but it is hard to tell. First thing I'd do (since you've fruitlessly deleted the cache folder) would be to do a full-file scan under 'preferences' in the patcher, and see if it re-patches any files. Does it still happen (especially in nek: When you approach the 'void' area, will it eventually "fill-in" if you stand there and stare at it long enough? if it does "fill in", do you still fall through if you walk on it?) It may be an engine problem. They've been having quite afew issues lately, this wouldn't surprise me. Although if it were, this forum would be abit busier, no? But I digress. Assuming that doesn't work, would be to 'force' a repatch of those zone files. The zone files are located in 'paks' folder. And, since this IS the largest folder, probably a bad idea to delete every single one, you can instead just delete anything dealing with a particular zone you're having problems in.) And, assuming that doesn't work: I would probably re-install at this point after backup of my .ini or any custom interface folders. There may be something going on that we really just can't fix. Barring corrupt zone files, it's unlikely that this is a problem specific to your computer. May be a freak coincidence you and your friend have same issues at similar places, but who knows if you somehow got the same corrupt zone files. Tough to tell Anyway, let us know how this works.

Blashyrkh wrote:
The cache solution proved to be fruitless; anyone else have any ideas?

I am going to assume you tried deleting "cache" files residing under EverQuest II directory. There are two cache directories called cache and logincache-us. Delete both those directories. Also, move all .ini files with in the EverQuest II directory to a temporary directory. If you cannot see .ini files, then you need to go into Windows Explorer Tools and uncheck hide system files.

Falling through the world is most likely a cache file issue, though performing a full file scan as the previous poster suggested can go along ways in resolving these type of issues.
