I just started playing about 2 weeks ago and I became a tailor. Right now I'm lvl 22. The problem is that I have really low tailoring levels compared to my metal shaping and metal forging even though I do a lot more tailoring. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong? Is there some special way of pumping the level up?

You built the others up to level 19 before becoming a Tailor. Soon enough, you'll eclipse the others.

Ok, thanks. Although I doubt it's going to happen anytime soon: I just finished about 10 lvl 22 gloves and it hasn't changed at all.

None of them were pristine. Do they need to be? What buffs are you talking about?

You get new Reasctive Arts every Tier, and using the white-con ones assures you of regular skillups. For more information please read: Understanding the Arts

Here's the prob: Notice that your Arts have a Technique and level assigned to them. This means that eventually those Arts 'gray out', meaning that they're far below your current Skill cap (and the name of the Art will be gray when you mouse over or examine it). While it is entirely possible to gain skill-ups while using grayed-out arts (or no Arts at all), it's miserably slow and will eventually create a large gap between your Skill level and your Skill cap. Every Tier you will want to find your new Arts and incorporate them into your crafting process. Doing this assures that your Artisan skills keep going up regularly. If you find that your skill level doesn't seem to be increasing, check to see if you acquired new Arts that you missed (remember, you receive new Arts each Tier) and incorporate them into your crafting routine. Thanks Calthine, the guide helped a lot. And thanks to everyone else, too.

Your outfitter career ended at 19 even though you can go back and make whatever you want. The only way that skill will ever get higher than 99 is with items that give you bonuses. The same thing happened when you became an outfitter and stopped being an artisan. Your skills that are needed for spells or potions became 49/49 even if you never once used them.

Going back to the original question - you get a Bonus the first time you make anything, then you only get a regular amount if you make it again and a gain and again. So make different things, and yes, go for a Pristine too, it gives you the best bonus. And Yes to all they have said about the Skill Upgrades in your Knowledge book - you have 3 Counter Skills when crafting so make sure you chose the most recent 3 to use, and check your Knowledge book frequently. Two of them either enhance Durability or enhance the Speed at which you make things. This impacts the blue bars on Crafting that tell you if it is a Crude, Normal or Pristine item. Too much Speed and you lose the bar for Pristine so you gotta balance their use. What I found helped a lot and gave me money too was the Rush Orders - you get to make different things and though when you start out doing them, time seems short, it get a bit easier the higher your level. Get your order, examine what you have to do, then forget the timer. Now buy fuels and get mats ready, and plan what order to do them in - you may get stuff to make at weaving and forge and work table so plan out your order. You do NOT have to rush back tio the desk when finished - the Timer finishes as you make the last item, so that's good. So when this first Timer ends, go to the Order desk and get the SAME ONE again, and rush off to do it. There is no time allowed to buy fuels. That will help boost up your crafting a bit at least.
