Hey, I'm new to the Illusionist class (well, new to EQ2 in general really) and was just wondering if anyone could offer any advice on which Illusionist specific AA line I should follow.  I do NOT have KoS (yet) so the Enchanter AAs are out of the question for now. I was looking and the (pardon my lack of knowledge, I'm just going off the top of my head here) Mez line looks pretty good, anything that decreases the chance of resists and breaks on my Mez and further down my Root spells seems like a good idea.  However, I also have seen that there is a first "tier" option to lower the recast time on my main nuke.  Both look pretty good, but the Mez line looks like a better choice.  However, since I'm only level 16 I don't have the knowledge of what benefits I get from stuff further down the tree. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

The time line is a great line to go down for dps and time compression, as is the line that ends with illusory arm. The resists lines look great at first but when you get higher and mastered up it becomes less useful...especially when you really only use mesmerize once per raid at the most. I haven't had any problems not having the resists lines and Time Compression and Illusory Arm is almost always in demand. Increased dps for you and your group ftw. In terms of soloing and grouping, resists are not awfully bad with adept 3's and masters obviously lower levels when you have appr1-adept 1 it seems like resists are evil but resists are just a pita for all mages at lower levels imo unless you twink spells.

Pretty much the vast majority of ehcnaters go time compression and illusory arms trees. And throw a few points into your mezes within the penetration. Some go down the penetration line. And very few go down the other one with the doppleganger thingy that gives hate to tank.
