View Full Version : We don't want fairies

Plain and simple: we don't want fairies. We don't want emo fairies. We don't want emo haircuts. We don't want people to call out to us with "Come to gaze upon me, have you?" or "My ancestors don't understand me; they're from a completely different era." We don't want terrible-sounding combat voiceovers (skeletons are among the worst). We don't want vast expanses of orange and purple (whose idea was it for these colors to ever come together in Barren Sky? Fire them, immediately). We don't want terrible new hats (warlock class hat). The general trend here is that, on these topics specifically, the developers completely missed the mark on content that people actually want. Fairies are stupid, and there really isn't anything more to say about that. From a technical standpoint, the gliding thing is awesome, but you're still a fairy. Some females like them, and I'll admit that the gliding thing is cool, but every other aspect of a fairy is decidedly not-cool, and it alienates at least 50% of the game's population. Also, EMO AND METROSEXUAL CONTENT DOES NOT ATTRACT PLAYERS. It makes us turn our eyes in disgust. It's a waste of money on the developer's part. There's so much of it in this game that it really detracts from the fun of certain areas, especially starter neighborhoods in Qeynos. So please, do us and your pocketbook a favor by not releasing content that alienates a lot of players.

Hm, judging by the vast number of new fae I see flapping around Norrath, not to mention the successful sales of EoF, I think you should reword that "we" to an "I".

Clearly, some people DO want fairies.

Perhaps the next new race, if there is another, will be one you'd prefer; but no need to speak for other people! And, if you don't like fairies, there's no need for you to play one. As a former dark elf in EQ1, I for one am delighted Neriak is back at last, Arasai or no Arasai.

I don't like all the content in the game; but what I do like is that there is lots of content for everybody to like, even if I don't personally like it.

Man, shut up and quit trying to talk for everyone when you're only talking for yourself and MAYBE a few of your friends. Instead of giving you 2cp to buy a clue, I'll give you one for free, you ARE in the minority. Seriously, did this REALLY need a new topic? There aren't enough Arasai topics floating around you couldn't put this emo attack on them in one of them? Guess it wouldn't have been emo enough had you done that since it wouldn't have been a big enough cry for attention. And sorry for flaming mods, but this is just getting ridiculous to me and it was my last straw I think. I did at least keep the profanity out!

You might want to check in on test server before you declare loudly what *we* want. Im not a regular on test, but I do log in there every now and then, and Ive never seen such a population as have been since this update went in, and pretty during all times of the day, a /who all fae_dark brings up over 100. Im having a great time there myself with my wicked little butterfly whom I will re-create in exact detail as soon as this goes live. Seeing reactions on test, *we* want arasai.

I agree with the OP... Fairies suck, and whoever thought adding them as a playable race should be shot. And no, it's not about being insecure. Fae are just an incredibly uncreative and flat out stupid looking race, which stick out like a sore thumb from every other race in the entire game.

Thanks And to the OP: Get bent. you don't speak for anyone but yourself. I like fae (They're not fairies, butt munch). The arsai are 'kinda' lame. I think the graphics that THEY have should be choices for regular fae (in addition to what fae have now), there's not really a feel of ebilness there, no matter how dark you make their skin. If it's just a stand-by, until they give us something with a TRULY evil feel (like sarnak) then that's aright. Anyway, you don't speak for the collective 'we': I don't think anyone does. so shove off.

I'm about as far from "emo" as you can be and I'm certainly not metrosexual by any stretch of the imagination. I mean, I'm an Iraq veteran that's seen combat for real (not just in a video game). Plus I'm a big guy in pretty decent shape. I find emo-boys and metrosexual types more then a little annoying. That said I'm more then secure enough in my masculinity to play a fae and have alot of fun doing it. I think the evil fae are pretty cool looking too and I'll probably play one even though I find people who go out of their way to play evil characters just because "evil is cool" are annoying too (I'm not saying that's why everyone plays evil characters, just that that's the reason some people give and I find that annoying). People who bag on the fae and arasai being "[Removed for Content]" or "emo" need to get over it and try it because they're alot of fun to play. In short, don't presume to talk for everyone. Oh, and I happen to like the Warlock hat.

Like I replied to you in that other thread, people do like fairies. Really, they do. Over the past nearly 7 years that I've been taking part in the EQ world, the topic of "what race would you like to see?" has come up a lot. Fairies is always number one (with overpowered half-dragons a good second...SOE sort of listened to that too).

We get it, you have some insecurities you need to work through regarding an avatar in an online game and how it reflects upon you as a real person. We also get that you just cannot fathom people having an opinion other than yours. Not that any of this matters as, like with that other thread, I wouldn't be surprised if you never came back to respond to this one.

In short, don't like the race? Don't play it. Want to give feedback regarding WHY you don't like them? Great. I would suggest, though, a bit less teenage angst in those posts and a lot more substance. Making up statistics and using them as the basis for your argument while trying in vein to hide the undercurrent of confused rage isn't working.

While I do like how they wrapped the deity quest line in w/ the Arasai 'creations', I do think it's more on the lazy side that this was the new evil race. I think the expanded hair & skin colours are nice touches, but I'd much prefer for those to be available, say, if you betray your Fae from Kelethin or something akin to that. "Your skin feels dirty & corrupted by evil now." Let's hope for new race w/ new expansion (& boatloads of content for all levels )

When I made my Fae, I knew I was going to betray so I aimed to get a "Dracula" look on him which I'm happy to say I came pretty close to. I have the Mask of the Deceiver so I usually go around as a winged dark elf. What I'm trying to say is my fae looks suitably evil, however, he SOUNDS like a totally sissyfied sweet little thing. This is where SOE dropped the ball big time. They let Faes betray but they give no option to have a voice which would be more suitable to an evil Fae.

The result is I'm embarrased to use any voiced emotes because I don't want to sound that [Removed for Content] (here I'm using the word in its original meaning ).

So, SOE, please give Faes that have betrayed an option to change their voice to a darker and more menacing one. It's not right that in a role playing game you actually HINDER players from role playing.

Not so much a wolf in sheeps clothing but an evil sheep. (interesting visual huh?) You know, the bad guy really doesn't see it coming, and for that matter, neither does the good guy. BWAHAHAHHA

Doesn't anyone remember EQ1 when the cute little fairies would flutter by orc hill? They were WAY more dangerous than those big scary looking Orcs. Why they'd chase you all the way to the ramp and wouldn't quit beating on you til you were worm food. We learned fast not to mess with the fairies.

I think interstellar knows what "emo" means, I think they are just making fun of it. Everytime the word comes up, they ask the same question. Emo is the new Goth.

Funniest thing aobut the whole OP is that he completely contradicts his whole post with this statement: "Some females like them, and I'll admit that the gliding thing is cool, but every other aspect of a fairy is decidedly not-cool, and it alienates at least 50% of the game's population." Which means 50% of the game's population wants and enjoys the Fae, and I'm sure just about any developer would love that type of percantage for such a big change to an established game.

I for one totally appreciate the addition of the Fae race. I love my Fae dearly (is my main now).

Great race. Love the look and the wings. Its fun to be able to play something so tiny and cute that can beat the snot out of pretty much anything she feels like fairly easily. Great race for travelling too. I play a Fae healer and I think other people tend to feel protective of her in groups -- groups are usually protective of their healers anyway, add in tiny, cute and fragile-looking and people tend to go out of their way to stop monsters beating on you. No racial complaints so far from anyone I have grouped with.

So far I am neutral to the addition of the Arasai. My Fae however is somewhat jealous of some of their wing styles and color choices

It sounds like the OP and his supporters (however few) have personal issues that they cannot resolve for themselves and so they seek others to resolve those issues for them.

Probably the OP not only secretly loves the fae, but also likes lacy things as well and is confused by this. Hopefully he will figure it out soon before he starts to hate himself for his desires.

To the OP, get counseling. The real thing not that crap that says they can cure you of your alternate lifestyle.

It's way too late to get anything changed. (which is too bad since I'm in agreement)

Between the flaming and someone calling for a dev to get shot (PS, that is a good way to get banned from the boards), this thread is done. Thanks.
