View Full Version : Odyssey vs. Druid/Sorc Ports

<p>Do people realize how useless odyssey is when compared to druid/sorc ports?</p><p>The only real use that I have ever been thankful for odyssey is winning some relic peice in a raid and CoQ back and then walking deep into solusek then having a way to get back quickly once you get your relic peice crafted.</p><p>Ill call that a practical usefulness of about .25 out of 10</p><p>Druid ports will easily and quickly move multiple people to several zones. Practical usefulness of about 9 out of 10 imo</p><p>Any chances of clerics getting a boost in the ability of Odyssey?</p><p>this is me being lazy, i know, but I get tired of taking 15minutes to get to loping plains from QH and waiting on the boat at TS or nek docks and/or constantly soliciting portals from druids. </p><p>possible fix: give odyssey a couple of places thoughout the game world that it can be bound to</p><p>V 70 temp70alch on AB</p>

You left out one major use of Odyssey - writs <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Conjuror "Call of the Hero" is another nice transport spell. Personally I'd like to see a person's bind point being settable anywhere in the normal overland zones (perhaps seperate from their CoQ one) - That would make getting around very nice. Given recast delays, its not like it could be abused, and keeping it to overland zones would stop it being used for say the SoS Forge. Its been raised plenty over the years, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

If you are doing quests and need to port back home to get to another part of the world it is great....also for doing writs or sending someone home that their port isn't up.</p>
<p>When characters have 3 available calls, Odyssey doesn't seem so great. We get it so early, I have to ask what would you replace it with that wouldn't break anything?</p><p> I wouldn't mind seeing something that could transport me to any temple I had done some sort of quest for. (Sure you can port into the Temple of War if you do the access quest, just don't cry to us if you can't survive there.) Perhaps you could do quests that could get you to Temple of Ro in Lavastorm, the church in Somborn, places like that. I think it would be pretty cool, but should require access quests because Odyssey is such a low level spell.</p>

It has it's uses, but I don't know if I would call it useful. I bought a stack of stones when I got the spell, and just recently I bought another, and I have been playing since launch. I use it when I'm too lazy to zone from my house in SQ back to QH. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<p>Wasn't this horse just beaten in the "Unfun Fun Spells" thread that's still on the front page? It's not hard to find - it's only about a dozen posts below this one.</p><p>Personally, I love the fact that the biggest issues Templars discuss these days are whether or not our 2 1/2 year old call spell is worth as much as the new portals that druids just got. Honestly, other classes should be so lucky as to only have to worry about such things.</p>
No way man, the bigger issue is that Summon Holy Symbol spell still summons a holy symbol we can't equip! The injustice is outrageous!

Easy solution here, roll up a furry and level it to 25. The furry port lasts for 1 minute, I can and do on a regular basis, switch to the furry, open port, switch back and step through it. When you combine your odessy with this, you can get anywhere you want and back in fairly short order. To be honest thats the only reason I haven't deleted my furry, cause they just can't heal like my templar =) Icoer 70 Templar - Nek Knights of Glory

Summon Holy Symbol should just be removed. Odyssey sucks. It is supposed to be a "utility" spell, but it is only useful for ourselves. Grant it, it is useful once in a great while. But, doesn't do shite for groupmates when calls are down. Recast timer should be 10 sec and it should not use half a bar of mana /boggle. That spell has always [Removed for Content] me off. The only changes that have been made to this spell have been bad ones.

<p>I agree angry isn't probably something one should be. One should be happy for what ever little ability one get. But the long recast timer make its close to useless. Last night after a writ run I thought I finally would have my chance to get it to use. - Group: Dang! As I said - level 13 spell. </p></blockquote>30 min/3 min doesn't even matter utility-wise it makes the spell equally useless. It doesn't matter what lvl the spell is, it is never upgraded so why would the lvl even be relevant, [Removed for Content]. Yes, I have been physically angry over it when I have needed it to be more useful. Faster cast? Who cares about cast time on a spell that you use out of combat standing around. Make the spell on a short timer and use less mana so we can use it for other people than ourselves when ports are down.

Yeah, no one uses those old low level spells anymore. Like that craptastic "Cure Trauma" we (all priests) get at level 6. =D lol reminds me of a time a certain guard in Labs told me that only Templars could cure trauma and no other healers got cure Trauma. I swore off pickup raiding in my freetime after that. On the main topic tho, Odyssey is very useful IMO. I go through about a stack of stones a week (granted mostly on myself - why zone twice from a town crafting instance or your house to get back to QH, when you can odyssey?). Bind yourself in QH near the Harbor Master, and it makes it really easy to get around from place to place quickly. The peace of mind of running somewhere and NEVER worrying if you're gonna have to afk to wait for a call to be up, or run back... priceless.

I personally can't think of a single time i've used it and haven't had my actually recall up. Now I just use Odysey because I feel like im wasting it otherwise. Basically what I've got from this thread is that the best use is to get around Qeynos faster? lol Why not just give us an evac spell instead, every other class seems to have it and its essentially more useful. Or like a "Seraphim Wings" spell where it gives the group float for a few seconds - not all of us are fae you know. Or even just immunity from fall damage for however long. Would be a better utility than an extra recall, I think. I think we can all see the spell cast, where golden outlines of feathered wings apear and disappear slowly on everyone inthe groups back. Would be hot.

Let's put it this way. I really miss the spell For some reason, Sony decided that Exiled Clerics can't use Odyssey. I can't for the life of me think why. It's just a real pain, is all.

<p>One of the best things I loved about UO was the ability to mark a rune...tie it to a specific spot and recall there at any time. Travel is one of the most important (if not the most) common denominators in this game...it's critical in this game <b><u><span style="font-size: medium">to everyone</span></u></b>. </p><p>I'm not looking for all the same abilities...wizard-like nukes...assassin-like melee hits...etc.</p><p>Give people a rune book...with three spots...anywhere in the game...they can mark. </p>

I wouldn't say no calls... Spell "Call to Haven" - Straight back home Spell "Call of Ro" - Via SS/Ts/Haven Item with right click "Return to Splitpaw" - Via Ts/Haven. And yet there still happen to be quite a few times I wished I could odyssey.

So I've been thinking about this spell a lot lately and how we could make it more useful easily and it dawned on me. Make it a group spell instead of a single target. Give it a couple more minutes recast time. It wouldnt be as nice as a scout evac, which is fine, we dont want to get "overpowered' called on us, but its still alot more useful than a singletarget recall with a 3 minute recast timer. I think that would do it for me, in my eyes if it was group it'd be a sweet spell. Perferably you would make it bring up a box that lets them accept or deny it so anyone who wants to stay wherethey are can that wya it works as a single target just as well as a group.

That is a simple, but effective way to upgrade the spell. Making it grp would be the best way to address the spell imo. Then it makes it a real Utility spell, not a half [Removed for Content] one.

Doesn't seem like a hard change either.
