Granted, no one likes to be down for any length of time but, if you were here when they did the US server merge you will see that SoE did learn from their mistake. In the US server merge we were told only a couple of hours. I think 4 hours was the estimate. However, it was not till abt 20+ hours later that the servers came up.

While I would not like a 24 hour outage at least having them tell me that up front is better than me sitting at my PC franticlly checking the server to see if it is back on-line yet.

yep these estimated times reflect past experiance instead of educated guess mixed with finger crossing and rubbing a rabbits foot. Hopefully this will be appreciated by PvP players. unrealistic for sure... but i'm optimistic.

Another reason for a larger downtime may also has something to do with that the EU servers runs with a slightly different code (Dunno why). Agrees that it's better to give a long estimate and get the server up within that estimate, compared to give a short estimate and results in many delays. Experience is that mmo player's don't like delays that much

As a player on the pvp server, I can say I appreciate the long estimation on the server downtime. I lived through the server merger when guk/tox merged and they were way off on that. I think most players will appreciate the downtime too, when they actually have more people hanging around to kill and group with. I guess the only downside to it all is the anticipation of seeing how the dust settles when it is all done. Should be interesting...and at least we aren't worried about soe "fixing" any issues, which usually translates into later patches to correct their "fix".
