Since last update templar DPS go down again as they have reclassified several spells as a beneficial spell which now break the Holy Smites final spell damage buff for 7 seconds... What I saw so far: HO Starter, Unswerving Hammer, not shure about wether the cures did break before, they do now. As usual nothing in the patch notes... why don't they fix alle the broken spells in the game instead of nerving the same classes over and over...

Removed, because our playstyles obviously differ

Uh, I guess I can't just let this be... Divine Providence and Unswerving Hammer of Faith were always beneficial spells. They triggered the Smite Wrath disability in BETA, and I doubt they did not any time between now and then. Cures are beneficial spells... I don't see how you could think otherwise. Divine Providence is a tiny bit iffy, since it's used to damage usually... but it triggers HOs which are to your benefit; you cast it on yourself. Unswerving Hammer of Faith is a fully controllable pet. There is no enemy target like dumbfire pets, which are hostile spells, so it is beneficial. You're summoning something to help you out. I don't see these reclassifications you speak of. In a way, it would be nice if they made Divine Providence and Unswerving Hammer of Faith somehow neutral spell spells, but I don't know if that category exists. Their current classifications suit them best.

Well, I cannot say how Divine Providence and Unswerving Hammer of Faith where classified in Beta as I didn't play there. I can however say that for the time I had my templer specced to have the top ability of the Holy Smites branch, they did not impair the spell damage buff. So I guess they must have been classified as non-beneficial during that time. I'm 100% shure of this as I used the HO starter very frequently while in DPS mode for clearing trash on raids and after last patch my DPS were quite rotten with the usual casting order due to the spell damage buff being suppressed all the time. As for the HO starter and Hammer being beneficial, well maybe we should then reclassify all nukes as beneficial too, after all they help you kill the mob faster - which is certainly beneficial

Unswerving hammer has been a beneficial spell for ever now. A bit awkward with it being in "smites". Cures have always been beneficial spells. Work around it - cast the hammer, then your debuffs, then nuke. Cast the hammer, then divine recovery, then start an HO, then nuke.

Why should I work around it - its an unanounced nerv - which are not supposed to happen - and that to templars who have been nerved more than enough before... I think driving out the last EQ2 players is SOEs way of fixing the lacking Vanguard subscriptions... but not me, rather play WoW than another Sony game.

It is well past time this one was fixed, since it SEVERELY punishes Templars when soloing especially. Having spent 21 points in the Smites line to get a modest DPS boost of 25% in just the spell damage part of our DPS, at a cost of other potential improvements, removing that bonus for using a HO or forcing us to not use HOs (and thereby lose about 20% of our previous Spell DPS) is pretty unfair to my mind.

It's about time the devs got this fixed - or specifically posted that it was intended to make Smite Wrath even weaker compared to equivalent skills for other priest classes than it already is.

I'm not with you on the Cures, however. Whereas Divine Providence is never in-of-itself beneficial (and its main use to us is to improve our DPS), and wheras the Unswerving Hammer spell is obviously for DPS, Cure spells are clearly not for DPS, and are more reasonably bracketed with heals and buffs as "beneficial", and so might reasonably be expected to disable Smite Wrath.

I was merely trying to explain SoE's ideas behind the spells, if you did not understand them, and provide a better understanding of the game. If you're fine with your current understanding of the game, then leave others to learn if they wish. Their current classification is unfortunate, but they fit within the structure of most of the other spells in the game.

So everybody says that the HO starter and hammer have been impairing the spell damage buff ever before - this is quite strange as it has not been the case for me until last patch - and yes, I'm very shure as I tested all spells when getting the Holy Smites top ability and also was munging the HO starter as often as it was up without a DPS impairment. Maybe the non-english servers get a different codebase from the english ones... Nevertheless it should be fixed!
