Okay, let me preface this by asking you guys not to make fun of my pathetic stats. I've been playing my troub on and off since launch and im just now starting to get into the high end stuff. With summer, and alot more free time on my hands, comming Im playing alot more and my guild is trying to tackle harder mobs. I dont parse 1.2k or have 900 int or anything like that like some of you guys out there, so please dont rub it in my face.

That being said I had a question about my weapon set up for small groups and soloing greenies. Right now (self buffed) I am level 69 with 343str and 328int I am set up holding:

Pristine Imbued Xegonite Rapier

23int 70 health 24 power 43.3 raiting with a 296-550 magic proc 1.8x per minute

and Pristine Imbued Xegonite Crescent Axe

23str 23agi 42 health 42 power 43.3 raiting with the same proc.

The other day I won the lotto for a Dark Linger:

20agi 45health 45power 51.4 rating that procs 435-532 damage and heals me for 331-404 1.8x per minute

This wont matter that much in my raid group because my str and int usually get boosted enough that it doesnt matter but I was thining about switching the Dark Linger in for the Xegonite Rapier in small groups or when soloing greens for writs. I would lose 23 int for a total or 305 (self buffed no food/drinks) but the Linger does more damage and has a way better proc than the Rapier.

Is this a smart move, or should does the proc/increased damage not make up for the loss of int?

Yeah, the Linger is better all around. Hopefully you can make up the lost int somewhere else, but really ditch the rapier for the linger. Also, get it adorned (if you can, I think you can) with a proc. Weapon proc adorments are usually pretty cheap, compared to ones for other equipment.

i have lost count how many times the health proc on the Linger has saved my life i have also put a poison adornment on it... seriously that thing procs a few times every fight

The surest way to lift your dps is through procs. This is essentially true of gear for any slot. That's why its rare, I think, to see a bard without bone-clasp girdle, for example. Other belts have way better stats, but the proc damage is addictive. Situationally (e.g., soloing), I may use the sun spot sash from roost that stifles or similar, but its not for the better stats (which it definitely has).

Think of it this way... Look at the additional damage added from 23 INT on one of your spells. Top of head I am going to guess its around +15. Lets say average cast of 2 seconds with a half second off between = 24 casts per minute, but half are combat arts (ignoring shorter casts on CAs), so 12 casts per minute. 12 casts x 15 damage = 180 dpm.

Your proc (which looks heavy btw - dark linger hits that hard?) averages 484 x 1.8 per min = 871 dpm

As an aside, I am wary of using the same proc on 2 different DW weapons. I can't promise you they don't get independent rolls (on the swing on the primary hand, btw) but I feel more comfortable with one runic and one serpentine. Perhaps someone else pays enough attention to be sure they have seen 2 procs on a single swing, but I have always thought 2 effects with same name = one proc/buff/et al.

Aside #2 - post LU, my adorned procs seem to report a damage amount (e.g., 406 magic on target instead of a range).

Happy hunting,

out of curiosity, have you considered switching the dagger for the axe instead?

Yes I considered switching out the axe. But I have this crIazy compulsion where I cannot have two weapons of the same skill if I can help it; I'd rather have a piercing and a slashing working up both skills with slightly less damage. I guess this comes out of my EQLive experience where sometimes I would want to buy a weapon, but couldn't use it effectively because I only had 15 skill in it.

having one of each or a set of each can be handy....for mobs like the one in DT where one is immune to slash and the other pirece.

as for linger.....it's a lovely weapon....dual that with my Innoruk cloak that procs a heal and you're set for some good soloing.

if you plan to raid though...try to get Grinning Dirk of Horror as soon as your guild is able to

other than procs...which help alot....DPS mods, haste etc and espicially casting buffs help trouby's tonnes.....

there's a ring from Nizara that has a spell reuse timer reduction on it....

The ring from Nizara is the Ring of the Four Winds, but alas you are unlikely to get to it sooner than the Grinning Dirk of Horror (first named mob in Lyceum of Abhorence) the previous poster referenced. Its the culminating reward of the monk tower quests in the Village of Shin. The final steps, however, are not trivial and involve beating Nizara with your one group, a x2 raid in Xux'laio's Roost, and finally beating the x4 dragonturtle Chel'drak.

Although it is a lovely ring, I think there are a few weapons from forgetten city and nizara which are somewhat more accessible and may be upgrades eventually vs. the second xegonite. In the meantime, wail away with your dark linger and have some fun.

Cheers,
