As some of you may know and others of you may not, since early beta Everquest II has been unable to properly keep character shadows in the game before a glitch causes those shadows to magically "disappear", until you exit from the game and come back in again.

This major, graphically breaking bug has not only been in the game since beta and has yet to be fixed, but it took well over a year until the development even acknowledged it was happening. Now days though if you scroll through any of the dozens of threads started about it over the years, the general reply is that "there currently is no fix at this time".

I for one think one of the biggest prospects this game has ever had is its graphics. A prospect acerbated ten fold by the look and feel of the shadow engine, an engine that to this day is still broke.

I seriously want it fixed, and I'm more than willing to help.

Here are some of the most major things I've found:

When you lose your shadows, it appears associated either with the lighting or the particle effects, or a combination of the two. I notice that when I play my Monk (very few particle effects) soloing, I can play for a long time in most zones without ever losing my shadows. On my Conjuror on the other hand (a lot of area and splashy particles) I can often lose my shadows just soloing a few mobs.

Another note: In groups or raids, shadows vanish almost first pull. The more particles around, the faster they vanish.

Yet another note: If I go into my options/particle effects and turn the slider bar called, Max Spell Results per Character down to 0, I can (in almost all zones) keep my shadows nearly indefinitely, but in raids they often vanish fast and in some zones faster than others.

Also, just having the Max Spell Results per Character to 1 I can lose shadows right quick.

A final note: If you think this issue only happens to me, think again. If you think it doesn't happen to you, think again. This is a game break, not a computer break. I've build four personal machines, completely different rigs, AMD's, Pentiums, different ram styles, different video drivers, hell even diverse sound cards and drivers. I've tried performance tweaks etc. Nothing seems to fix this on our end.

Also this isn't just my computer. I have known 11 people on a personal level who have had one or two different computers playing Everquest II since release, none of them can view shadows, all of them have this problem, where shadows vanish over a period of time, generally independent of actual time but associated with what seems to be particle effects. It's been well over 2 years now, let's get this shadows glitch taken care of. People are getting to the point now where their computers can finally handle the higher settings of Everquest II and this includes the shadows engine. I want my shadows, and I'm sure there are many out there who agree with this desire.
