Quick history lesson here, i've been playing this game since it came out, got plenty of lvl 70 toons, raiding experience, but this has been my first experience playing a actual MMO. The one thing that I am constantly amazed about, more than anything else in this game is the people who actually play it. Without going into a huge amount of details here are some of the things I have come across. 1. Greedy people - Is it me, or do people revert to greedy five year olds when it comes down to loot? I've had people say to me stuff like 'I dont want to do this raidzone anymore as there's nothing in there I want'. I've seen other people totally freak out about losing out on some item to other players like you stole their first born or something. 2. Weird issues - 'Why didnt you say hi to me when I logged in?', has anyone else met people who kinda need a LOT of attention about everything they do and seem to want you to know that they are impo rtant and do whatever they can to show you this. 'I'm a nice person, now sit down and listen to me for 2hrs when I tell you all about my new handbag that I bought yesterday' 3. Married, single, freaks - I've known you for five minutes so can I get your phone number. [Removed for Content]!. From married women who seem to spend a awful amount of time with other married men in their houses, to stalker type people who get so possesive and agressive they scare the crap out of you everytime they login. My all time favorite the weird couple who all have in game 'relationships' with other players (this still makes me chuckle, hello angry person joining vent and calling people out LO L) 4. Rude, Moody people - I have ran into a fair number of people who if th ey had a bad day they come in game and take it out on whoever they can find. I dont quite know how these people are in th e outside world but I cant believe they act the wa y I see some people act in this game. 5. Leet people - Discounting the teenagers because they are teenagers, there's a LOT of regular folk who turn into crazed i'm leet, how dare you say my piece of fabled armor is not as good as yours, bizzare people. The more I play this game, the more I believe that the playerbase is ripe for physcological study of some sort on human behaviour, it really is amazing when you sit back and think on the actual people behind the character and how they function in real life.

So i think its a humanity issue instead of a game issue.

There have been studies on MMO populations in the past. Believe me, academia is not going to leave an area untouched if publications can come out of it Much of what you described (other than the greed) has been seen in chat rooms for a long time. Why should an MMO be any different? It is a chat room with a rough plot, avatars, the ability to kill things (both computer controlled and by other players) and an in-game economy. Toss in the usual amount of anonymity that you get in chat rooms, and you have a good environment for people to do things that they cannot do in real life, expressing feelings that would be otherwise inappropriate, and/or explore activities they may not be willing to try in real life. I've been guilty of the mood one on more than one occasion. No real good excuse for it, though there is nothing to say I wouldn't react the same way to some in RL (okay, I couldn't kill them without legal repercussions). edit: There is a whole journal devoted to the topic of behavior on the Internet/cell phones/other tech communication devices. ]Cyberpsychological Behavior .

The wierdest thing that's ever happened to me in this game happened a few days ago. I was sailing from Thundering Steppes to Butcherblock Mountains. When I zoned into BBM, I crashed to character select.

When I logged back in, I expected to find myself at the BBM docks. Instead, I was at the Greater Faydark zone line. Can't complain about that!

Funny thing is I'd been there and done that since before MMOs were even on my radar. Any "human" situation you'd fine in one at it's foundation has been going on since before the beginning of recorded history

Ive come across two sleazy stalkers. One was with my lowbie toon; I deleted the toon to get rid of the sicko. I didnt like the class anyways. The other knew my main so I had to be extremely rude before he backed off. /shrudders@the slimeballs out there.

Its often said that females love to gossip and backstab eachother, then let me tell you about the population of extremely female dudes playing this game, oh my god the lies and drama they are starting and spreading. And they arent ashamed of it, au contraire they are quite proud of themselves and they never ever apologize when they get caught. eq2 is the male beothces paradise

I've seen a LOT of social oddities... ranging from people claiming to be famous musicians, to just well, strange, strange people.

But as far as game things itself - I'd have to actually say that recently my warden has been experiencing the strangest things lately. The other day I was doing Hidden Cache, mentored to an alt, with some friends, and when we zoned out, everyone zoned out in the normal place, but my warden was not so special. No, no, when she zoned out, she spawned on TOP of the mountain that Hidden Cache is in a nook of. I was very close to MajDul, and could see quite a bit from where I was. I grabbed lots of screenshots.

Then a little while later I did Acadechism with my warden and our scout evacced so we wouldn't have to run back to Kelethin. Everyone spawned where they should EXCEPT my warden, who spawned on top of a tree.

I've also experienced the zoning-to-one-place-but-ends-up-in-a-totally-different-place bug, very strange indeed. It seems to largely be related to the boats.

I remember a tank in this PUG a long time ago that seemed distracted. Suddenly, right after a fight, he said afk for a sec. Came back like 5 minutes later. Sorry guys for being distracted, my mom is dying of cancer. I heard her choking in the other room and thought she was dead. After we finish here, let's hit RE. We're going to kick butt tonight.

I was like..I need to go..I have to go hug my mom now and cry.

Ok, not a weird moment but it stuck in my head.

I believe people to do things in game or generally over the internet that they wouldn't normally do IRL..This can make for some super weird events. I had been stalked in game and online a long while back. When it started trickling over into my RL, it freaked me out and now I'm pretty picky about keeping my private info very private. Ya just never know what kind of freaks will latch on. As for the rest, for the most part, I only play with my guildmembers who's brands of weird I'm comfortable with, and no one is that obnoxious.

I remember back in Dec of 2004 where most of the population was working on AQs. I had ended up in a group with 5 male toons (counting myself) and 1 female one. After a moment of silence the female one asked "Why aren't you boys hitting on me?"

Leveling 5 toons to 70 in a matter of a few weeks each, then watching the server population drop so badly that my last toon cant get groups to get from level 68 to 70.... OH and riding the dust devils in SS with my fae....what a rush!

Totally freaked me out. Thankfully ever since I reported them I haven't been bothered by them. My recommendation to anyone is report it cause if they won't leave you alone thats your only option. Ignore doesn't work for people like that.

I was once shrunk in the tradeskill instance. I was smaller than that quested duck. My move and jump however was unaffected. I spent around 5 mins leaping the counter and pretending to be superman then got bored and left the zone.

I remember one night that I camped out of game while sitting on a rock in between the North Qeynos and South Qeynos gate bridges out in Antonica. When I logged back in I was standing on a rock out in the middle of space. No zone. No mobs. Nothing. Just me, the rock and the vastness of outer space. =P

Interstingly enough, when I looked down I saw Luclin.

A friend of mine zoned out of her North Qeynos apartment only to be dropped into the middle of a bunch of some heroic gnolls in the Thundering Steppes who were more than happy to come up and say "Hello".

for me was once jumping from the top of the waterfall in tenaberous tangle to that little island below where you have to hit that small pond. well i went thru the pond and kept going though the bottom of the island and falling thru mid air think oh crap this froglock is gonna be a grease spot and i dont have a parachute! only to be be suddenly jerk back up thru the pond again then back in to the water like hapens normally when you make that jump. still trying to figure out where the bungie cord came from and what happened to so i can do it again! altho seriouly i think i must have hit a lag spike and it caused the rubber band effect.
