Hello fellow Mystics!

I am a 67 Mystic, and was present at a raid in THE LABORATORY OF LORD VYEMM over the weekend. I had my pet puppy summoned and toggled to NOT protect me or himself . Two times it appeared that he caused a full wipe as he aggroed something other than the MT target... once not even near the Mt as he was at my side near the rear.

Has anyone else seen this and might offer an explanation? Me and the other Mystic ran the rest of the raid without pets for fear of another wipe :p

Erithorn

I use the pet in labs all the time. I've never seen weird aggro from him.

How can he cause a wipe? If he grabs aggro, he'll die instantly. If it's out of combat, then I'm pretty sure that you've ordered him to attack. He doesn't take initiative to pull himself.

What's most likely, is that someone else pulled the adds and the dog had warded the group (from str line) and got jumped because of the healing aggro.

Whats probably happening. You kill a mob. During that fight, dog procced his ward. ward is still on the tank after the fight. when they pull the next mob, the mob swings at the tank, hits the ward and aggros the dog, then goes straight for you.

Incoming mobs making a beeline for me and little Jenkins are common. It's because of the group buffs he casts on the MT group during the fight and during the raid in general. Jenkins will group haste 16%, and proc a group ward so we're often on the hate list at the beginning of the fight.

They only run at you because of Aura of Warding. The added haste from the doggie is 0 aggro.

The culprit is Aura of Warding for sure. But usually if that happens after the mob kills the pet and mystic he goes right for the MT. Not sure why the mob is bouncing around like you describe. Maybe people are casting too soon and not letting the tank get aggro?

If you're saying the dog ran after something, (rather than got attacked) perhaps he was attacking the eyeball and got taunted by one of the tots. Then he'd be attacking something he shouldn't have been. But the raids I've been on ask for no pets on that part for just that reason. If the MT prox pulls mobs and the mobs come running for dogdog, its left over ward that the pet casts was still up on the tank. Options Turn off aura of warding when pulls are going faster than aura drops. Pull dogdog out of battle 20secs or so before end of fight when pulling fast. Most tanks can overcome with a single AE taunt. Warn tank to wait for aura to drop if you see that its still up (you can't cancel it like the others) Shouldn't have to give up on dogdog entirely, not even give up on aura of warding entirely since you can turn it on and off.

Labs was always one zone I didn't bother with doggie on till last fight, just wasn't worth the hassle of watching for aura etc. If the tank is pulling fast and furious then doggie ends up getting in his way. I have found the best use of doggie is in longer fights. The tank always need to rest after..enough for aura to drop ;-p

No need to give up on the dog entirely. Just don't cast Aura of Warding.

Your group can still benefit from the added haste and the damage the dog does in melee.

guess part of the problem is the OP is level 67.... one hit from a mob will kill him. I never bother watching dogdog wards now and rarely have a problem - once he hits 70 he is less likely to be one-shotted before the MT can get a taunt to land.

I didn't mean that I didn't bother to have doggie out, just that I focus more on keeping him alive for his buffs, and yes I would cancel aura.

You shouldn't be getting agro in the first place....no need to *cancel* anything - it's your MT that's the problem I don't know what your MT is doing, but I've personally never got agro like that with Aura of Warding and I'm sure other ppl would agree

I don't bother not casting Aura of Warding or telling the tank to wait for it to disperse. If the dog gets aggro with it, its fast and easy to hit your deaggro and wait for the tank to establish threat rating *shrugshrug* No harm no foul, right?

Also, if the dog is pulling aggro initially, your DPS is reacting too quickly and attacking the mob without an inc message/command from your MT. If the mob kills your dog, then kills YOU and no one else messes with it, it should automatically reset with no problem....leaving only you dead and 23 people able to rez you. Not the best of circumstances, but certainly better than 24 dead people and everyone deciding not to bring the mystic anymore *grins*

Since we just started raiding, Labs is the zone my guild is in the most. I have my pooch out all the time complete with all buffs and have never noticed anything like what you describe other than in fights where there are mobs that will taunt you off of your main target. In those cases, I've got a macro I set for myself and my dog to keep us on the correct target (worked great on Gnorbl or whatever his name with the little taunting adds is in lyceum as well).

The only times other than when there are taunting adds that my dog has attacked the wrong thing and caused problems for the raid was a mistake on my part, targeting and sending him to the wrong mob and being to slow to call him back when I reallized what I'd done.

Another thing that could be happening is that scouts/wiggly fingers are backing up too far from the rest of the raid when manuvering for position and agroing new mobs, which would immediately come for you and your dog if you were in their group and making it seem it was the dog's fault. Or some other class using an AOE too close to a wall and the same thing happening.

I've definately seen both of those.

Thank you all for the excellent responses...

Yes, I believe it was the Aura of Warding that caused the aggro, and Gnorbl was involved, so the taunting issue is also a viable answer.

I have since employed "Scooter" in the Labs but on a tighter reign, and no problems. Nice to have his company at my side once more

Erithorn
