Simple question and I'm sure its been answered, but why does fuel cost so much?   Especially T5+ and we can barely sell common items for the cost of fuel (many players sell their common items on the broker for less then the fuel price, jewelry, weapons etc).   Whether you are the seller or the buyer you loose (pay more for the item/spend more money to make the item).

What I don't understand about fuel cost is that it seems every teir you get double raised... not only does the fuel cost per fuel go up but also the amount of fuel needed per item.  It makes sense to me that higher items should cost more to make but it seems like that could be factored into the cost of the fuel itself and each item only need 1 instead of items using up more and more fuel as recipes get higher.

Fuel prices have a long involved history.  The increasing prices as well as increasing number of fuels needed as well as fuel inconsistent fuel counts in similar recipes (and some which have a flat number of fuels no matter what level that's even more inconsistent). Basically.... we've all complained about it at one time or another and, in the past, nothing was done (or it was made worse in some cases).  There's nothing that can be done about the grind dumpers disrupting the market.  You can only hope they get past your particular level and move on.  If you have more than a passing suspicion (i.e. you've seen them in operation) they're using 3rd party programmes to craft while away from the keyboard, you can report them for that.  However,  having umpteen of the same item for sale at far below fuel cost and nothing of anything else of a similar level IS suspicious (easier to set a bot app to do -one- task than to have it vary), it's not proof. Take heart, though, the pay-back value from an NPC and, more importantly, the return on a writ, is based on the fuel cost.  For writs, it's the fuel cost plus a percentage at completion.

Its an artificial floor on prices.  If the market is flooded, just sell back to a NPC vendor, they'll give you exactly fuel cost every time.

I can tell you that once upon a time there was no tiered fuel, it was all 6c.  And raws, of course, are "free".  Yet people still marked up their goods by Tier. I suspect (without anything to back it up) that it's a hedge against MUDflation.  Which is essentially the point above.
