<p>Since chat channels are OPTIONAL and very easy to turn on or off, I wonder if the devs would consider adding a channel whose sole purpose would be to announce server-related issues every hour on the hour.</p><p>If the SOE crew expects to have scheduled downtime for all servers at 7:00 a.m. PDT on Wednesday, then you start seeing this message once an hour every hour until the downtime occurs:</p><p>"All US and European servers will be coming down for scheduled maintenance at 7:00 a.m. PDT.  The servers will be down for approximately one hour.  Thank you for your understanding."</p><p>The people who prefer to get their news by checking the forums or EQ2 players (or whatever their source is) could leave the channel turned off.</p><p>But those of us who just play casually and don't make a habit of checking those other sources would be informed.</p><p>Now if I know anything about these forums, the next three responses to this message will go like this:</p><p>1) Whaa.  I want the game to be more fun and convenient.  Next you'll be complaining that SOE didn't provide you any cheese to go with your whine.</p><p>2) You're trying to tear apart the community by making people less dependent on the forums and other game resources.</p><p>3) I don't see why this change is necessary.  I check the forums every day.  In fact, I spend 8 hours a day sleeping, 2 hours a day eating, 12 hours a day playing, and 6 hours a day reading everything posted on the internet that pertains to EQ2.  You people who don't know how to organize your lives and expect SOE to cater to your every demand really make me sick.</p>

Whaa.  I want the game to be more fun and convenient.  Next you'll be complaining that SOE didn't provide you any cheese to go with your whine.<img src="/smilies/e8a506dc4ad763aca51bec4ca7dc8560.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

A much better way to handle it would be to simply add the server status to the launchpad for the game. No setting up a specific channel for anything because people would still complain that they don't access this chat channel you're talking about.

I seem to remember a time when you used to see that sort of thing on the launchpad window (right after you logged in, where you currently have the option to view update notes... it was replaced by the character listing) however...  if you click on Update Notes, isn't one of the first things you see is a 'servers are up' bit?  Granted, there have been a couple of times where I've seen it say Servers are Down only to discover everythign was okay...  but that might just need some tweaking by the devs... as for the chat window idea...  I'm not sure what I'm missing...  when SOE DOES post the server downtimes, I get that trilling bell and then I see it my main window...  they've been pretty good for the most part (at least when I'm playing) ...  i anticipate servers going down around 10:00am and just park myself near a safe zone and wait to see if I need to log or not.

This is not needed. Downtime is the same time everyday and warning are issued way in advanced. Either by server message or posted on EQ2players. This Post was a complete waste of time.

The new Station Launch will download updates while your system is idle.  So I would assume they could add a pop up feature to it so to remind folks to log out for new content.
